I received a K01 Career Development Award for young mentored scientists from NIH-NIMH. Title ‘New PET ligands for brain serotonin transporter in neuropsychiatric disorders’. Grant: K01-MH090278 (PI: Jarkas). Year: 07/01/2010-05/31/2013. K01 no cost extension: 06/01/2013-05/31/2014

I was the first place winner out of seven finalists of the Radiopharmaceutical Sciences Council Young Investigator Award presented at the Society of Nuclear Medicine Meeting in New Orleans in June 2003

I was one of six finalists of the Emory University School of Medicine Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences Rising Star Award in 2011

Society Memberships:

American Chemical Society (ACS). 1998-2014Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI). 2002-2014Radiopharmaceutical Science Council (RPSC). 2004-2014Society of Radiopharmaceutical Sciences (SRS). 2005-2014Center for Molecular Imaging Innovation and Translation (CMIIT). 2012-2014PET Center of Excellence. 2012-2014Brain Imaging Council (BIC). 2013-2014

Research Focus:

Neuroscience:

The development of carbon-11 and/or fluorine-18 biochemical probes that could be used clinically

to provide information, using medical imaging, to study alterations in brain chemistry associated with

many neuropsychiatric disorders and cocaine addiction. This project led to the translation of the best

carbon-11 serotonin transporter radiotracer, [11C]HOMADAM, from benchside to bedside.

Oncology:

The synthesis and fluorine-18 labeling of the different enantiomers of the non-natural amino-acid,

1-amino-2-fluorocyclopentane carboxylic acid ([18F]FACPC) for tumor imaging. The major

accomplishments of that project included the characterization of different kind of tumors in cells, mice,

and rats with both [18F]FACPC enantiomers and the translation of the lead enantiomer anti-(R,R)-2-

[18F]FACPC to healthy and non-healthy human imaging.
