ANG TANGI KONG PAG-IBIG
Ang tangi kong pag-ibig ay minsan lamang
Ngunit ang iyong akala ay hindi tunay
Hindi ka lilimutin magpakailan pa man
Habang ako ay narito at may buhay
Malasin mo't nagtitiis ng kalungkutan
Ang buhay ko'y unti-unti nang pumapanaw
Wari ko ba sinta, ako'y mamamatay
Kung di ikaw ang kapiling habang buhay
Hindi ka lilimutin magpakailan pa man
Habang ako ay narito at may buhay
Malasin mo't nagtitiis ng kalungkutan
Ang buhay ko'y unti-unti nang pumapanaw

Pres. Ner P. Laiño
Fellow Pasig Rotarians:
PE Ogie’s committee’s unanimous recommendation to transfer our
club meetings to the Black Olives restaurant resulted into a
unanimous decision to go back again to VVCC after some strong
expressions of objections why we should not hold our meetings in
that place. Among other reasons, I agree the restaurant was very
unfriendly to seniors like PP Totoy Bartolome, PP Esto Lichauco, PP
Peping Mabanta, PP Benny de Guzman, PP Jing and myself. I have
not asked PP Totoy Bartolome and PP Esto Lichauco why they were
not able to attend but their reasons could have been because VVCC,
after all the parking and food problems, is still the better place to hold
our meetings. PP Rhett and PP Vic Aquino even argued we have been
at VVCC for the past forty four years. Our experience in that Black
Olives Restaurant even resulted into some minor insults to the
undersigned but I am still okay because as I have always said I will
be happy to serve. Anyway, I only have ten months more to go.
Before going into my favorite subject of collection of dues, I still
would like to thank Rtn. Cesar Lacuna and his son Director Bebert,
PN Doc. Aga, Rtns. Ray Armas and Albert Mendiola and IPP Ramy
for the repacking of the goods which we distributed at Rotary GK
Village last August 13. That early Christmas gift giving was of
course the idea of PP Conrad and PP Peter in our Board meeting of
August 4, 2015. Thank you also PE Ogie, PP Conrad, PND Sec John,
Treas. Dennis Albano and Director Bebert Lacuna for your efforts to
bring us to Black Olives restaurant last August 13.
As of today, our cash in bank is only P280,770.20 out of our total
collections of P689,800.00 because we have already paid to VVCC
and other creditors the total amount of P409,029.80.

Continuation 1.
Somewhere in this Tinig issue is printed the complete names of all
our members who have given their contributions to our RHS and PLP
scholarship programs. The donors list is still very incomplete so I will
highly appreciate your again being donors to this program. As many
of us are saying, let us give back to the community some of our
blessings. Also printed in this Tinig issue are the names of our
members who have paid their Rotary year 2015 – 2016 P12,000.00
membership dues and the Induction dues of P3,000.00. Kindly let us
have now your payments for these items which we can spend for our
“must” expenses.
I am still figuring out that our reducing our annual dues to only
P12,000.00 from P20,000.00 was not a mistake if we can make a
collection of only 95%. This is the very reason why we are trying to
remove from our list of members those who have not been paying
their dues. My view is that we should have Rotarians in our club who
are helping and sharing. Let us be like those who pay early and who
can give and share more. What I am saying is that let us make the job
of future presidents of our club easier.
I am hoping that before the end of this year, we will have more funds
because I expect PP Rel and PP Conrad and the other past presidents
and other members can do a lot in making the scheduled September
28, 2015 golf tournament a big success. Gov. Raffy and Rtn. Chony
Gimenez have been asked to give P50,000.00 each. I am sorry for my
relentless and irritating efforts to collect.
I am further hoping that this Rotary year will end positive, financially
speaking. Please continue giving your financial help.

PP Benny P. De Guzman
With PP Arjan not around, the umbrellas became short that the last
12 recipients of our dole out last Thursday morning just received
the goodies through the packages prepared by the small volunteers
at the house of Bebert.
Disaster preparedness was well presented and our two councilor-
members were there for a brief but important moment. ROY Dr.
Aga was all over and Director Ray was catching with his sleep.
The two guys who went with me, since going to our lunch venue
was rather early, I took to visit PS Mario Raymundo who is very
ill. PP Peping & Past First Boy Chito tried to cheer Mario who
could barely say a word. He was worried about his buddy Butz
Aquino, who eventually died last Monday afternoon. Tinig
condoles with PP Esto & spouse Maur, Butz being a younger
brother.
That Olives place is not good for any meeting as we will never
have privacy. At best, that’s good for fellowship. Since we did not
have a good mike at the start, exchanging views was kind a hard.
Sgt-At-Arms Albert had a nice idea, and, golfing enthusiasts could
not follow through with their sponsorship appeal because of the
rare handicap of that meeting. Even lead guy PP Conrad has to
leave earlier. However, he made more than a complete meeting as
he was at the GK Village with 12 others.
Balanced budgeting weekly is a good practice of WCP Ner. If
indeed we have to leave Valle Verde Country Club, the better
alternative would be Valle Verde 5 Clubhouse. Rtn. Edison may
be able to work out a rental of P4,000 to at most P4,500 for two
hours 12:15 to 2:15. I am sure we can get a caterer for P200 as this

would be weekly for 4 weeks a month. If dinner fellowship would
be there, we can increase the rental to their usual rate, as this
would be three hours. An attendance of 32 is break even with costs
of speakers and guests and our staff included.
The scholarship program of both high school and college had
some very important pointers last meeting kaya lang with a sound
system that is hardly not good sound, walang system at all.
PP Bobby is out of our meetings for more than 2 months already.
This is the first time in his entire Rotary years that he has kept
away from the club and he is not abroad.
PP Ed Lucero is hard to ligaw. Like a good car he is able to catch
up with our meetings. The friendly banter about his loving our
club is commendable.
Three past presidents with their spouses are spending time to visit
relative abroad. PP Peter & PPA Celia are in Melbourne while PP
Jun & Spouse Judy are in U.S. It seems that PP Rhett & PPA Belle
are also somewhere spending their extra dollars.
PP Arjan and WCP Ner seems to be having an idea where Arjan
will support a major club project for Ner.
Special salute to two outstanding Pasig Rotarians last meeting: To
PP Sonny Samson for his determination to attend the meeting even
when he saw the monstrous stairs that he had to hurdle, and, he
managed. And, to PDG Raffy who suffered from bad waiter
service to wrong food as ordered. Needless to add, a third one,
WCP Ner, whose speaking time was cut and who could hardly be
heard. Well, nobody is perfect, not even the venue.

AFRICA REACHES IMPORTANT POLIO MILESTONE
Today marks a significant milestone for Africa in its effort to
eradicate polio from the continent. A full year has passed since
Africa’s last reported case caused by the wild poliovirus.
Somalia was the last country to identify a new case, which
occurred on 11 August 2014. While Africa has achieved an
important public health milestone, the job is not yet finished. To
end polio forever, all countries – both endemic and non-endemic –
must strengthen routine immunization, address gaps in disease
surveillance and do more to reach children who are still being
missed by vaccinators.
“We cannot wind down our efforts now. We need to continue
immunizing until the last country is certified polio-free, and
thereafter,” says Dr. Tunji Funsho, chair of Rotary’s Nigeria
PolioPlus Committee. “As long as the virus remains anywhere in
the world, it is only a plane ride away.”
Rotary members have played a key role in the eradication effort.
They have led the way in raising funds, advocating for government
support, building awareness, and mobilizing volunteers on the
ground.
“The work of Rotary and the Global Polio Eradication Initiative
has also cut through the clichéd narrative of Africa as the land of
poverty, disease, and conflict,” says RI General Secretary John
Hewko. “Real human development has been achieved despite the
toughest obstacles and despite the opinion of many who thought
we could not eradicate this disease in Africa.”

Strong continued support toward polio eradication in these final
years of the campaign is the best way to ensure that today’s
milestone will indeed mark the last case of polio in Africa, says
Michael McGovern, chair of Rotary’s International PolioPlus
Committee.
“Rotary members have many opportunities to make a difference,
including being part of history as we seek a polio-free world,”
McGovern says. “Members have led the way in fundraising and
lining up volunteer support for polio eradication.”
Through 2018, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is matching
2-to-1 every dollar that Rotary commits for polio, up to $35
million a year.
