Dr. Joshua Kaman talking to the Gr 10 students at Kundiawa Luthren Day High School

If SCF is to exist for the next 20 years we have to start educating the young people of today what SCF is about, it’s mission and objectives so when they become professionals they will carry on what we’ve started. With this objective SCF awareness was carried out in Kundiawa Luthren Day High School and Kundiawa Technical Vocational School. Team - OK TEDI Jonathan Yomil, Team OK TEDI Coordinator, will be leaving for studies next year. We thank Jonathan for his efforts in leading Team OK TEDI in the SCF cause where we saw Team OK TEDI donating K1000 and sending a strong team to the 2007 Xmas Ball in Kundiawa. Jonathan will be taking up studies in USQ hence will team up with Team QUEENSLAND. On the other hand we welcome Eric Kuman as the new Team OK TEDI Coordinator. For his willing heart to take up this extra challenge we thank him. The road ahead will be tough as it will cost you your time and resource (with no reward) but if the heart is willing you will see no obstacles, Eric welcome onboard.

SCF International Director Australian Chapter

We thank Josephine Kilage in her term as the SCF International Director, she has being very inspirational. She started the SCF group in the Facebook that has about 53 members to date, contributed monthly articles to the SCF Newsletters, invited many of our international volunteers, including FEPCOW (Feed & Educate Poor Children of Our World) an international charity group based in Canberra. She is bringing heaps of donations to Simbu this Xmas. Josie, thankyou for your heart, a Simbu daughter, true & true. We congratulate another Simbu daughter taking on that role, Lola Collins. She is the new SCF International Director Aussie Chapter, SCF Facebook Group Administra-tor & Queensland Coordinator.

Team - WA We welcome Ivan Mori as the new Team Western Australia (WA) Coordinator. When Ivan was invited to SCF his immediate responds was registration online. This prompt reaction showed the faith he had in the SCF cause. His willingness to take up the challenge will show the heart of Simbu that is craving to be tapped.

Team SIMBU We welcome Paul Siwi as the new Team SIMBU Coordinator. Paul has being involved with SCF since 2006 when he started putting up SCF banners in Kundiawa. When all patients are asleep there are 3 people discussing about SCF in the isolation ward, Francis Nii, Jimmy & Paul Siwi. Regardless, day or night, Paul has a burning desire to drive. Paul will be lead-ing Team Simbu preparing for the upcoming Xmas BBQBALL.

Team POM Coordinator, Esther Nombri and her team: Lena Korugl, Richard Sinamoi and Stanley Alphonse successfully staged the official launching of Simbu Children Foundation (SCF) at Crowne Plaza on the 18th October 2008. The entire ball room was fully booked and in the event raised K85,550.00. The guest of honour was His Excellency, Sir Paulias Matane. The evening started with Dr

John Mua giving the opening address. The SCF President followed, highlighting SCF achievements from 2007 - 2008. We switched over to Singapore and Philip Mitna came on live (via skype video conferencing) passing on his congratulatory remarks. This use of technology saw the entire ball room quiet as a grave while Philip was address-ing everyone. When he finished smiles glow from one end of the room to the other. The thrill of seeing someone live from Singapore filled the atmosphere and with full smile His Excellency Sir Paulias took the podium and gave his royal address. He congratulated SCF for this unique ap-proach in uniting the elites of the province to addressing the needs of the children. He also challenged other prov-

inces to take up the Simbu model to make a change for PNG. After his address he was given the hon-our to unveil the SCF plague to officially launch the Simbu Children Foundation. He cut the ribbon and SCF was officially launched. The excitement continued to the great wall of China, Team China came on live and the icing on the cake was that Sir Paulia’s adopted son Paulias Konmil had the hon-our of addressing everyone in the ball room while the rest of Team China looked on. There was no one better to do the concluding remarks than one of Simbu’s prominent sons Mr Kerenga Kua. He fittingly concluded that Simbus act of love always come from deep within, “in Simbu if you try to shake hands with someone they hug you, bringing you close to their hearts” he said. The evening was a huge success, thanks to Mr Willie Kupo, who as the Master of Ceremony kept everyone captivated throughout the night. A SWEET COMPLIMENT I just wanted to say I was so impressed with the organization of this Launch last Saturday evening. Although I turned up late (just before 7pm), I was worried that things would run really late but to my surprise, everything unfolded without a hitch. MC, Food & entertainment were great; getting the right MC makes a whole lot of difference to an event. Yours was a good choice. The general atmosphere was fantastic too. I was impressed with the speeches & what this organization is doing through the assistance of its people here in PNG and overseas. Our provinces really need to see this Simbu model and hopefully take up the challenge, be it a local haus sik, town authority (in need of funds to clean it up), markets etc. Your team has an incredible network and that is so important in a venture such as this Foundation. Thanks for the reminder to us non Simbus that we too can make a difference in our provinces, if we want to & are prepared to work to make a difference. Miran Ai (Mrs) Lawyer, Litigation The SCF launching and fundraising Ball was proudly sponsored by The Water Company, other Corporate sponsors, Individual sponsors and Donors. Simbus and friends of Simbus really showed their hearts for example, Robert Agen from England sponsoring a table and Joe Nilemoa donated K1000 from Hidden Valley. Regardless of distance or difference the unity of one heart, one mind, one purpose is truly the resemblance of the missing pillars needed by any society, province and the country to stand in test of times. Thankyou everyone whether you contributed actively or inactively, whether you were physically present or not the mere fact that you knew SCF and had faith in it, has brought SCF this far. Let’s turn around and look back, the path you came through is almost covered with thick grass, those coming behind will be lost and only way to save them is to go back and show them the direction. Their only hope is us hence for us to come together and realising this fact is in itself the beginning of a new error. With one heart, one mind and one purpose let us pave the way.

Dear Jim and the SCF National Executives On behalf of the SCF members in Australia and the SCF members on Facebook who live, study and work in Germany, United States, China, New Zealand, Philipines, Ireland, United Kingdom and various other countries we would like to congratulate you and the executives on the official launching of the Simbu Children Foundation on 18th October 2008. It is wonderful to see the true spirit of Simbu

being shown to the nation at such an event. Thank you Team Port Moresby for your efforts in hosting the annual SCF ball. Thank you all SCF members for being an inspiration by being a part of this great organisation.

Josephine Kilage

Congratulations SCF on the Launching

I congratulate the SCF National President, Jimmy Drekore for his initiative and vision and the SCF National Executives for their unwavering effort in bringing this philanthropic or rather humanitarian organization from a

humble beginning to its Current status. It is awesome to see the true spirit of giving being shown to the nation at such an event. For the organization, it is indeed a quantum leap. SCF grew from strength to strength and has defied and conquered tribal factions and political boundaries. It has united all Simbu’s from all walks of life and will continue to do so in its quest to offer assistance to the sick children of Chimbu. Thank you Team Port Moresby for your efforts in hosting the annual SCF Ball.

MY TRIBE - MY ORIGIN, MY LIFE is an analysis of tribalism and how that affects individuals, especially those that are educated and making a living outside of the tribe. The question comes if one is capable of reversing the tribe’s expectations. It gets complicated when one’s interest in politics surfaces then one falls back to the tribe. It becomes a deadly gamble and one ends up loosing everything, eventually one’s life. The poet sums up with the crucial question, after all whose life? The most important people miss out, those that we bring into this world - our children. Thomas Rango comes from Siane in the Chuave district and this is a reflection of what he has seen. We might be part of it, we might not be but we do have a tribe as a Melanesian society. The challenge is upon us whether to lead or to follow or better still isolate. Our roots, our origin, our sovereignty is in our decision because we come from a tribe and when our time is up we’ll return to the tribe.

Bush Poet

SEE YOU ALL AT THE XMAS BBQ & BALL IN KUNDIAWA ON THE 20TH DECEMBER As the artic is melting, the heat will be on and the sausages will be sizzling at 0900hrs. The boys from the equator will be hard at work, chucking more coal so titanic thrusts forward. If you are in Kundiawa make your way to the back of the hospital where the barbie will be on. Come prepare salads or sandwiches or some creative toppings to go with the ice cream. SCF will provide all the ingredients but let us also show the “pasin Simbu.” Each team can bring something for the sick kids to go on the barbie or toys to present them. We anticipate to enter the wards at about 1200hrs. SCF Matron, Lady Kilage, will lead the cutting of the cake. We will visit the Children’s Ward, Surgical and Isolation Wards.

Should any team wish to contribute any food stuff it has to be delivered at the hospital before 0800hrs. Equip yourself with cameras so you can capture every moment as it unfolds. We hope to finish about 1500hrs and start preparing for the Ball. The Ball room door will open at 1800hrs and dinner will be served so the program can start on time. There will be slides running with background music taking you to the Wara Simbu gorge. You will know why it’s called the Million Dollar View. As the sun sets over Digine, the last blink reflects from Surikawal, lying still is Gera like a dried up tear. Stretching to Elimbari is like Aladin’s journey, a view so breath taking, you have butterflies of merry dreams, where the heart contemplates the soul if you can rest here forever. Many have come & gone and left a trail of compliments, an infinite list. They call it paradise I call it home - SIMBU.
