The specification and schedules of products is the at the discretion of the architect, the owner or client will hold the architect responsible should there be a short coming in the material, product It is important for the architect to keep specification and schedules

Introduction

Compare two architectural practices specifications and schedules, comparing the differences and similarities. I am not currently working at an architectural practice but have obtained permission to use KOADS schedules and specifications. KOADS does minimal specifications when it comes to the use of products, they use specifies or an external.

Practices used:

KOADS project that was chosen to research was a [prosposed new building, stand 216, the covers, Hartebeespport for Mr and Mrs Mallet

Specifications

Window schedule was chosen as an example of specifications. On the window schedule the size is indicated on the elevation of the windows, the number of windows is also given, a descriptiona as well as additional notes on the windows include manufacturer and the materials.

The specifications, for example the window schedule are given as notes to the actual working drawings, placed next to the portion which they affect.

The glazing notes accompany the window notes, specifying the thickness of the glas in relation to the area of glass. It also notes that safety glass should be used on doors and that glazing on doors should have a visible mark on them to prevent injury. All glazing must be installed to ABS standards.

The specifications used by this practice are clear and easy to understand, providing information on materials, workmanship and construction.

The lighting schedule will be found on the electrical layout. If it’s a small project the sanitary fittings will be placed as notes on the plan, otherwise if it’s a bigger project a separate sanitary layout will be drawn up.

Q – Do you show your specifications and schedules on a separate accompany another drawing?A – In regards to windows and door schedules, each door and window has its own schedule no matter if there are multiples of the same to allow easier modifaction.

Q- What specifications are used?A - Specificationa re obtained from speclink. If it’s a big project, the drawing are submitted to speclink, who in turn generates a list of schedules.

Q- What is found on your window schedules?A –Dimentions, location, description, material, finish as well as glazing.

Q – How are the schedules plotted?A- use window or door has its own block of information.

Q- Are all your specifications easy to use and understand?A- Yes, they are

Q- What are the importance of specifications and schedules?A- There is a legal aspect, it allows for recourse on the architects part, in regard to price, delivery and quality of finishes
