welcome from the vice-chancellor

Welcome to AUT University and to our scholarship publication.

University education is about critical thinking, fresh ideas and new ways of doing things. It is challenging—even demanding—but its benefi ts are considerable; not only for the students themselves but also for their families, communities and the wider society and economy.

That is why AUT provides a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships and awards: to encourage and support the contribution that university education makes, creating opportunities for individuals, and thereby enriching society as a whole.

and reserves the right to recommend that no award be made if there are no applicants of suffi cient merit.

• This scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other scholarship. You must notify the Scholarships Offi ce if you are awarded another scholarship.

• The Committee will accord preference to applications from full-time permanent staff, but the Committee will consider applications from part-time staff, and may consider whether proportional scholarships are appropriate. • Recipients must remain employed by AUT in order to remain eligible for funding.

• Awards will not be applied retrospectively to cover papers previously enrolled in and paid for.

• The fi nal award of the scholarship is contingent upon gaining admission onto the Programmes. All enrolments must meet the current terms and conditions of the Programmes.

• A study plan for the following year is to be submitted to the Scholarships Offi ce by the fi rst Friday of November each year. If the total budget is insuffi cient to meet all planned enrolments then not all papers may be covered by the scholarship. In these circumstances, funds will be allocated fairly over all recipients.

• Usually, recipients may not enrol in more than one paper per term using the scholarship. However, in exceptional circumstances, where permission for extra study time is granted from their manager, recipients may apply to the Committee for consideration to waive this condition providing there is suffi cient budget.
