Second City Week 2 • Fully Alive • Ephesians 2:1-10 May 27/28, 2017 Open: What are the things we “idolize” in our culture? What effect do they have on our soul? Discussion: In what ways do you find yourself “drinking the Kool-Aid” offered up by society? How do you experience the influence of this idolatry on your heart? On your mind? Read Together: Ephesians 2:1-10 How does Paul challenge the idolatry of the Ephesian culture? What are the appetites, attitudes, and actions that lead to spiritual death? Do you recall a time when God saved you from clearly deserved consequence? What was your response? What is your response in light of Ephesians 2:4-5? How does this challenge your tendency toward idolatry? Consider the following quote from St. Irenaeus, “The glory of God is a human being fully alive.” What does it mean to be fully alive? (vs 6-9) How would this affect the “Walking Dead” around you? How is this state of being fully alive obtained? (vs 8-9) What are the good works “which God prepared in advance for us to do?” (vs 10) Practices for the Week Six for Six Challenge: Read Ephesians 2 at least 1x daily. As you read Ephesians 2, prayerfully journal what God brings to your attention. Praying with Paul: Ephesians 1:17, Ephesians 1:18-20, and Ephesians 3:16-19 are prayers that Paul prays for the church. Select one of these prayers and slowly read each word. Begin by praying the prayer for our church, then pray the prayer for your family and yourself, and finally, pray the prayer for someone you know who has not trusted Jesus yet.
