Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen, and a special welcome to our Station Commander - Col
Roberts, our Gauteng Provincial Community Police Board Deputy Chairperson - Mr Vernon Smith,
our SCPF Chairman - Mr Charles Kemp, members of EXCO and to all of our SCPF members and
members of the public (OUR COMMUNITY).
We took over as Management in February 2018, giving us a mere 8 months to achieve our successes.
CHALLENGES
1. Sector 1 are making great progress in the fight against crime.
2. Redesign and redo our database from Excel to a more secure database management system.
3. We had to redesign our website.
4. We had to redo our Facebook page.
5. We had to redo our Constitution.
6. There are challenges which remain a constant threat to our overall security in Sector 1 and they
are:
• Broken fences;
• Theft out of motor vehicles;
• Cable theft;
• Motor Vehicle Theft;
• Business Robberies; and
• House Robberies.
But overall, it did go well with Sector 1, but crime have definitely increased the past 2 weeks.
GOALS
1. To make Sector 1 the greatest and most successful Sector in the SCPF.
2. To minimise crime in the Sector and make it safe for our community.
3. To promote the relationship between existing affiliated neighbourhood watches and help establish
new affiliated neighbourhood watches.
4. We are constantly striving to improve the bond and relationship between us and SAPS and the
members of Sector 1.
5. We are also in the process of establishing communications between us and our neighbours, PTA
North CPF.

By this time, the Grade 12’s are in full swing with their matric excams, and the rest of the
grades will follow soon, as well as the University students, for their final examination.
We at Sector 1 CPF, take this opportunity to wish all of the students (and parents!), the very
best of luck for the Exams!
Here are some Tips to keep the stress at bay . . .
1. Have all your materials ready before you begin studying – pencils, pens, highlighters,
paper, etc.
2. Reach out! Never be afraid to ask for help! Find someone in your family who you can
lean on emotionally or talk about any feelings you might have about exams and
performance.
3. Location! Location! Location! Whether it’s the library, classroom, community hall or
your bedroom – claim your study space. It should be a place where you can concentrate
and limit distractions.
4. Break up your learning sections into manageable parts. Trying to learn too much at one
time will only result in a tired, unfocused and anxious brain.
5. Keep your study sessions short but effective and reward yourself with short,
constructive breaks.
6. Working on past papers is a great way to get to know the type of questions you’ll face
in the exams. It also helps you work out how much you already know or identify your
weak areas ahead of time.
7. Your brain learns well with colours and pictures. Try to use them whenever you can.
8. Be confident with the learning areas you know well and focus your brain energy on the
sections that you find more difficult to take in.
9. Repetition is the key to retaining the information you have to learn. Keep going – don’t
give up!
10. Sleep at least 8 hours every night, eating properly and drinking plenty of water are all
important things you need to do for your brain. Studying for exams is like strenuous
exercise, so you must be physically prepared.
Bonus tip: Always be positive! A bit of stress can be good; too much stress, however, can
stop you from performing as well as you could have in your exams. If you feel overly
stressed or experience anxiety, becoming aware of what causes your anxiety, will help to
reduce the stress.
Marius Nel is op 5 Augustus 1972 in
Vereeniging gebore.
Hy was van Gr 1 tot en met St 3, in
Laerskool Vereeniging, waarna sy
ouers na Warmbad verhuis het. Hier
het hy sy laerskooljare in Laerskool
Warmbad voltooi.
Warmbad, waar hy in 1990
gematrikuleer het. Dis duidelik hy
Marius was ʼn
PTI Luitenant by 5 SAI gewees - en
PTI was nie - wel, glo my, dit was
gewoonlik ʼn baie befoeterde, baie
nogal ‘n rukkie gevat!
In 1994 aanvaar hy ‘n betrekking by
Nashua in Roodepoort, en begin ook
deeltyds BCom Rek by Unisa te
studeer.
aangesien Marius altyd besig is
met iets), raak hulle graag ʼn bietjie
weg na die Bosveld toe.
Waar wil hy eendag gaan aftree?
Wel, net hier waar hy nou is,
tussen sy mense, sy buurt en sy
gemeen-skap.
~ Pro F
hy deel was van die projekspan wat
die eerste BIG SCREEN gemaak het
met CRT skerms by Sun City tydens
die openings seremonie.
Tydens sy Nashua jare, ontmoet hy
sy vrou, Laetitia, by ʼn Bybelstudie
klas kort na sy haar B.Sc. (Bio-
chemie) graad verwerf het.
Die twee is in 2001 getroud en het
twee pragtige dogters, Bianca en
Monique, beide leerlinge in Hoër-
skool Overkruin.
onderneming.
Marius se grootste passie, en
natuurlik tydverdryf, is rekenaars en
enigiets wat daarmee te doen het. Hy
het verskeie kwalifikasies voltooi in sy
Nashua jare, soos CNE, MCSE,
MCSD, ens. en het nog nooit
opgehou daarmee nie. Geen wonder
hy was so handig om ‘n
verseker doen, aangesien hy, tot on-
Hierdie maand gesels ek met Marius Nel
(CF1), ons Voorsitter van Sektor 1
No NW can be fully autonomous. It is safe to assume that most criminals are armed
and dangerous.
We are not a vigilante organization and can never endanger the lives of our active members. We must,
therefore, rely on the SAPS and CPF partnership as governed by the Police Act. The SNW falls within the
area of sector1 of the SCPF.
This year, one of our main aims was to better structure and formalize the relationship with Sector 1 of the
SCPF by negotiating the way in which a NW is included within the SCPF Constitution in a mutually beneficial
way, without losing our right to govern ourselves or our own identity, within the CPF framework (keep in mind
that a visible and active NW is one of the most efficient ways to prevent crime).
We helped to elected members onto Sector Management that understood the integral part that neighbour-
hood watches play in the functioning of the Sector.
We then liaised with all the other NW'es and street groups in order to put a proposal forward that is fair and
beneficial to all. It has been a long and ongoing process, but the negotiated amended Constitution was
accepted on the 22nd of October 2018.
No NW can function in isolation either. The relationship between the SNW and other NW'es and street
groups, have always been strong and still remains that way. We meet regularly and continuously share
important crime related information. We also address shared issues, such as the SCPF Constitution and
combine efforts in combating crime, such as The Mountain Action group, where all the stakeholders are
invited to participate, give input and help find solutions. The Counsellor of Ward 50, Lenise Breytenbach is
driving a strong effort from her side to get the City Council to mend fences against the mountain and also to
maintain and safeguard the reservoir and electric cables. Just recently, we gave her a list where we need
Drive Slow road signs. Lenise, you are a friend of the SNW and we would like to thank you for your hard
work.
Our strongest relationship should, however, always be with our neighboring areas. ENW has an open
invitation to our monthly meetings. As the saying goes: Whatever happens in Edelweiss, WILL happen in
Molopo!
Both Nicola and Heimia streets are also included in our efforts to build stronger relationships with our
neighbors.
Within the SNW itself, we must all realize to what a huge extent we are reliant upon each other. SAPS
resources are limited. At the best of times, there are are 1 vehicle available per Sector. We have committed
policemen and women at Sinoville SAPS, but on their own, they will never be able to make a dent in our
crime.
We need patrollers. The smaller the group that regularly patrols, the bigger the burden on individuals and
the bigger the likelihood that they will eventually stop patrolling. We need a bigger, committed patrollers
group. Who is willing?
Our aim for the following year, is to take the SNW to the next level. Our projects for next year are reliable
and efficient communication. A life might depend on it one day. We also want to start a pilot camera project.
I would like to thank our five regular and our other occasional contributors … you have made it possible to
buy new patroller boards and to help with the day to day running of the SNW.
I would like to thank our Patrollers, Bravo1's, Street Co-ordinators and the rest of the Management Team for
their time, commitment and support.
Thank you for everybody's continuous support!

Op ‘n ligter
noot!
So in die gees van
Halloween …
Why don’t
skeletons like
parties ?
They have no body
to dance with!
Why is Dracula so
unpopular?
Because he is a pain
in the neck!
Who won the
Skeleton Beauty
contest?
No body!
Why did the
student eat his
homework?
Because the
teacher told him it
was a piece of cake!
‘n Seuntjie ry saam
sy ma in die kar. Hy
krap in sy neus en
trek n stukkie

Sy ma kyk vies en
vra: “En nou? Wat
gaan jy met

Seuntjie “‘Nee, ek

Marianne Mulder (W553) … duisende dankies!!!
Een ding is seker …Sektor 1 se manne kan ‘n plan maak as daar bome omval
na ‘n wilde storm in ons area! Welgedaan!!
Sektor 1, SBW (Sinoville Buurtwag), SOB (Sinoville Oos Buurtwag), verskeie
Langs hierdie weg, wil SGPF Sektor 1 se Bestuur elke persoon opreg bedank wat so
Indien u enige verdagte persoon of voertuig opmerk,
rapporteer dit onmiddellik oor die roepradio of kontak Sektor 1 se noodnommer by
071 509 6830.
