I am not a politics person but there co-mes a time - now and then - that I feelI agree with statements made by leadersof the different political parties andsuch a time came last week where I feltthat I had to agree with the presidentof the Republic.I agree with the president when he

says that South Africans are lazy. Lackof knowledge cannot be the main pro-blem. We are very well educated about

the problems of our generation, yet theworld continues to grow darker witheach passing day.The president said South Africans

had started to become lazy since theshackles of apartheid were loosened, and that they expected things to cometo them like ‘manna from heaven’,which is true. Yes this is a democraticcountry and everyone has a right to ha-ve something but some are just takingit too far. Laziness is nothing more thanthe habit of resting before you get tired.Zuma also complained that South

Africans tend to “exaggerate” their pro-blems and wait for government to sorteverything out, which is true in everysense. It is time that everyone stood up and

did things for themselves and stoppedbeing lazy and whining.Lerato...

by Executive Emfuleni Mayor GrethaHlongwane. Much to their surprise,Hlongwane told them blatantly that im-properly built houses and shacks wouldhave to be demolished. The meeting was held two weeks ago

near the Golden Highway. Making agood example of an incident at Lenasia, she pointed out that the land was alsoprivate property and the municipalityhad no say or control over it.She pointed out one flashy house still

been built where water pipes or a sewer-age system had yet to be installed.Hlongwane said to those who have

fraudulently collected money from poor, disgruntled communities would pay dear-ly.The communities assisted the mayor

with the names of the suspected self-pro-claimed land owners.

BOPHELONG. - Drama nearly tossed pet-rol onto an aleady fiery Uniting ReformChurch sermon.Outside, church premises seemed to be

‘black and white’ as there were so manydie-hard women wearing uniforms and somany men of the cloth.Rumour is that the priest of this church

had been suspended by the District CircuitBoard. Apparently, he was not supposedto conduct any service until further notice.Police were trying to get to the bottom

of the dispute and of the division in thechurch. This comes after - allegedly - two priests

were made to take centre stage during thesermon for Palm Sunday on March 29.This nearly disrupted the mood for prepa-rations of the Easter Programme.A guest priest from Tshirela was alleg-

edly assigned by the District Circuit Boardto conduct and prepare for Easter specialservices. Both the local and external priestscould not be named after Sedibeng Ster un-successfully tried to get hold of them. Some church elders also spoke on condi-tion of anonymity for fear of victimisation.According to an insider, the local priest

was suspended pending further investiga-tion. The elders could neither confirm ordeny allegations: “We cannot commentpublicly on the affairs of the church evenif it is a public concern.”

The presence of Police was to interveneif some dissatisfied church members triedto penetrate locked gates. Members want-ed the suspension of the local priest ig-nored.Rumour is that the priest was notified

to stop conducting services until furthernotice. Those in favour of the priest told Sedi-

beng Ster that any person who feels thathe or she is not happy with the administra-tion of the church could pack their Biblesand leave peacefully: ‘We cannot be heldto ransom by hooligans. This is our churchand our faithful priest.’A senior official who did not want to

be named said church protocol should berespected. He said the priest had beenserved a formal instruction to stop con-ducting services. No onewaswilling to get into the details

of the suspension letter. Two camps arecausing division. A priest had to be re-called in the name of freedom and and fair-ness.The constitution of the church is clear

that any member found to have trans-gressed a ruling had to be set aside.Manycongregationists said they were

not aware of the infights. It was a hugeblow when the priest stood up and said hewas leaving the church. Sedibeng Ster’s at-tempts to solicit comment from the ac-cused drew a blank.

VEREENIGING .- Major bus company Ipe-legeng and Sedibeng College recently madea congruity alliance. This means that, over the years, students

will be given the chance to be in the workingenvironment of an artisan or motor mechanic.Thursday saw Sedibeng College manage-

ment surprisedwith awonderful gift by Ipele-geng management. The surprise gift was han-ded to management in full view of students

and workers.Ipelegeng workshop manager Kabelo

Mphahlele handed a diesel engine to Sedi-beng College lecturers Princess Mokitini andWilliam van Niekerk, which will come han-dy and be fruitful for learning on a practicallevel. Mphahlele briefly explained why theyhave such a relationship with the college andhow vital it is for the company to engage lear-ners in the workplace.Sedibeng Ster spoke to some female arti-

sanswho said they had enteredwhat was a male-dominatedworkplace because they wan-ted a challenge that would -one said - keep her strongmentally.“It was tough but eventually

I managed to prevail,” ex-plains Mojaki Moeketsi.Dineo Mphaki says she has

always been a ‘toughie’ andshe wanted to set her hand toany working environment: “Idid not want to allow life todirect me, but instead pursuedwhat I want to be. I love myjob.”

Car battery failure isn’t scheduled like loadshedding. It can happen when you least ex-pect it.Finding a reliable, quality car battery can

be tricky, but if you look out for a long-termguarantee, you’re halfway there.A warranty is essentially the company’s

seal of approval on their product. SA’s lea-ding battery manufacturers, First NationalBattery, offer the only genuine nationwideguarantee – a two-year product warranty onthe complete ‘Raylite’ Enhanced FloodedBattery (EFB) range. The warranty is valid at any one of First

National Battery’s franchise outlets - BatteryCentre - nationwide, regardless of whetherit was bought at that branch or from a diffe-

rent stockist altogether.“If it’s a manufacturing fault, and is in the

warranty period, it will be replaced – no has-sle,” says Marketing Director of BatteryCentre, Andrew Webb.“Moreover, our

Battery Centres areequipped to establishthe most likely causeof the battery failureby performing a free-of-charge battery as-sessment.In some cases, the battery itself isn’t faulty

and our battery specialists are able to adviseon how to eliminate the problem – savingyou the unnecessary cost of replacing a bat-

tery that doesn’t need replacing,” he adds.Choose high-quality, reap the benefits. When it comes to replacing a battery, think

long term.A cheap battery might save you a few

rands now, butcould end up cos-ting you a lot morein the long run. AllBattery Centres na-tionwide stock thetechnologically ad-

vanced Raylite EFB range.Designed as a cost-effective solution for

cars using start/stop technology, these batte-ries offer exceptional performance and arean excellent choice for all vehicle makes and

models. “These batteries are also fully recy-clable and under normal operating conditi-ons will not require any maintenance,” con-cludes Webb.To get your current battery tested for free

by the battery specialists at your nearest Bat-tery Centre, visit the online branch locatorhere. To stand a chance to win a Raylite bat-

tery with free installation from your nea-rest Battery Centre, SMS the word “Bat-tery” followed by your name and surnameand your type of vehicle to 45516.For more information about Battery Cen-

tre’s products and services visit www.batte-ry.co.za or call the battery specialists toll freeon 0800 112 600.

TOUCHLINE finds it strange that some coachesclaim they don’t have soccer balls when junior soc-cer teams play. But when the SAB League plays, suddenly you

see those soccer balls. Why? For example, the Promotion League Tour-

nament between Mighty Stars and Vaal Milano FCnearly didn’t play because both teams didn’t havesoccer balls and yours truly - TOUCHLINE - hadto do some damage control. This happened at the Boipatong Stadium in full

view of local supporterswho came to watch thegames on Sunday. This is not a good

image for the develop-ment of football, withyoungsters having towait for something like30 minutes for soccerballs to play. The fact of the mat-

ter is that it is not as ifVaal Milano FCdoesn’t have soccerballs. No, it was a caseof the SAB Leagueteam being the priority, sothese youngsters had to suffer.TOUCHLINE is very disappointed because these

teams’ coaches are highly respected in this region, yet they didn’t see anything wrong with this. TOU-CHLINE will forgive the Mighty Stars coach as hemade it clear that his team is struggling and he can’tafford to buy even a single soccer ball. But the same can’t be said for Vaal Milano FC,

taking into consideration that the club has sponsors-hip. My point is why - when the youngsters play

- there are suddenly no balls? The question is: why should ‘skop-and-jaar’

SABLeague players be treated differently from the-se youngsters even if we don’t see what they aredoing in the field except winning?TOUCHLINE has never seen this before – where

the games are delayed just because of a soccer ball. These coaches should hang their hands in shame! The question is – why do you have junior soccerteams if you don’t take them seriously? The only time some of the development coaches

give these youngstersattention is when it’stournament time be-cause they want to winat all costs. What happened at

Boipatong on Sundaywas really bad for thedevelopment of foot-ball in this region. It is not a matter of

affordability, but of ta-king the developmentof football for granted, which those ‘elders’ inthe SAB League enjoy

at the expense of these yo-ungsters.This tells you why for the past five years we don’t

have a team in the ABC Motsepe League, formerlythe Vodacom League.TOUCHLINE’s message to all development coa-

ches is: If you disrespect these youngsters – whycontinue to coach them instead of sticking with tho-se SAB League ‘makhehlamakhehla?’Taking notes from a technical point of view -

TOUCHLINE same place, same time....!!!!

Why were there no balls?
