Judy: By Myself is based on Judy Garland’s one and only smash hit concert in 1961 which she performed at the Montreal Forum. After a car ride from her last concert in Boston and problems at the Canadian border, she finally arrived at two o’clock in the morning at Montreal’s Queen Elizabeth Hotel less than happy. When she arrived at the Forum twelve hours later, she found her “dressing room” was nothing more than a glorified hockey player’s dressing room. Our story starts here.

La pièce Judy: By Myself est basée sur le seul et unique concert au succès fracassant qu’a donné Judy Garland au Forum de Montréal en 1961. Après un trajet en voiture suivant son dernier concert à Boston et des problèmes survenus à la frontière du Canada, elle arrive enfin, mécontente, à l’hôtel Le Reine Elizabeth de Montréal à deux heures du matin. À son arrivée au Forum douze heures plus tard, elle constate que sa « loge » n’est rien de plus que le vestiaire d’un joueur de hockey glorifié. C’est ici que commence notre histoire.

How she rose from poverty in New Orleans to become the undisputed worldwide Queen of Gospel to accompany Martin Luther King in the memorable March on Washington. Ranee Lee performs many of Mahalia’s songs accompanied by a nine member gospel choir and musicians. This outstanding musical is guaranteed to warm your heart and put a smile on your face.

The opera Les Aventures de Madame Merveille is a great musical fantasy where audiences of all ages can escape the rigors of everyday life and dive head-first into the action-packed universe of the comic book! Travel through four original stories, complete with music, and projected illustrations. The colourful and rhythmic music of André Ristic is performed live by the musicians of the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal (ECM+). Please note: This show is not a dance show, but a live comic book opera.

L’opéra Les Aventures de Madame Merveille est une grande fantaisie musicale où les auditeurs de tous âges échappent au quotidien pour plonger dans l’univers drôle et touchant de la bande dessinée. Quatre histoires originales y sont chantées, illustrées, projetées sur écran et mises en scène. La musique rythmée et colorée d’André Ristic est jouée en direct par le chef et les musiciens de l’ECM+, visibles à travers les illustrations et « bulles » projetées sur l’écran. Remarque : Ce spectacle n’est pas un spectacle de danse mais un opéra bédé.

CinemaSpace’s mission is to serve as a unique meeting place between cinema and other artistic disciplines, between filmmakers, artists and cinema enthusiasts.

Three annual series — Crossover, Lightstruck and Parallax Views — showcase a wide range of innovative works that go beyond the boundaries of conventional cinema and feature local, national and international productions.

In addition to its annual programming, CinemaSpace supports emerging artists and hosts various screenings in collaboration with film festivals, arts organizations and educational institutions. CinemaSpace is open to proposals for special programs and events, and seeks new works by local filmmakers and artists through open submission.

Music / Musique The Schulich Concert Series, supported by Sunlife Financial, is a morning set of four unique performances which includes a pre-show workshop led by professional musicians, followed by a live concert.
