-720 Reba

Discrete anode for corrosion mitigation in new construction

Product Description

Sika FerroGard-720 Reba is a discrete sacrificial anode applied to reinforcing steel

in new concrete structures exposed to attack by chloride salts.

Reinforced concrete is a porous material and as a result, exposure to chloride salts

can lead to extensive chloride diffusion in to the concrete cover and subsequent

attack on the encased reinforcing steel. This effect is accelerated at higher

temperatures.

To counter potential chloride attack, sacrificial anodes can be placed in susceptible

areas.

Sika FerroGard-720 Reba anodes corrode preferentially to the surrounding steel,

protecting it from further corrosion damage.

Uses Chloride induced corrosion prevention.

Applied to reinforced concrete structures such as bridges, car parks, coastal structures where chloride attack is an issue.

Coastal reinforced concrete structures both in and above the tidal zone.

Characteristics / Advantages

Sika FerroGard-720 Reba anodes corrode preferentially to the surrounding steel, protecting it from further corrosion damage.

Large charge capacity >450 kC*.

Works at high temperature (>50°C).

No long term maintenance costs.

Strengthens passive film.

No rapid dissolution of activating components.

Rapid installation.

Cost effective corrosion prevention solution.

Activating system dimensionally stable in dry (<40%RH) and saturated (>99% RH) conditions.

Application Instructions

Installation Application shall be in accordance with the Method Statement and is summarised as follow:

Sika FerroGard-720 Reba anodes are typically applied at a density of 2-9 units/m² concrete surfaces, at a spacing of 350-700 mm between anodes.

Sika FerroGard-720 Reba anodes are typically installed directly onto the reinforcement steel cage in new structures, prior to concrete pouring.

The individual Sika FerroGard-720 Reba units are applied to reinforcing bars at locations detailed in the design. The units are attached parallel to the rebar using the two cable tie connectors provided. To make a steel connection, the titanium connector wire is twisted around the rebar and tied with a single cable tie.

Electrical continuity between the Sika FerroGard-720 Reba anode conductor and the reinforcing steel shall be confirmed. The Sika FerroGard-720 Reba units shall then be encased in the concrete material ensuring complete coverage of the anode surface.

Notes on Application / Limitations

In order that suitable current flow and lifetime be achieved from the Sika FerroGard-720 Reba anode, certain practical considerations should be taken into account.

Concrete cover must be a minimum of 80 mm in any new construction application.

Any discontinuous steel should be either electrically bonded to or electrically isolated from the system negative.

Any cracks or delamination in the cast concrete which affect ionic current flow or allow ingress of chloride ions will affect performance of the Sika FerroGard-720 Reba unit and should thus be pre-treated.

During installation, damage to the Sika FerroGard-720 Reba unit must be avoided.

The time to achieve passivity will be dependent on site conditions. Depolarisation of treated steel will be slower in moist conditions.

Design of the galvanic protection system shall be undertaken by a local Engineer and installation guidance in accordance with their technical information.

Value Base All technical data stated in this Product Data Sheet are based on laboratory tests. Actual measured data may vary due to circumstances beyond our control.
