ランガラカレッジのESLプログラムでは、

語学学習のための統合的アプローチを

採用しています。スキルを独立させて教

える代わりに、より総合的なアプローチを

取っています。「話す」、「聞く」、「読む」、「

書く」といった言語スキルを統合させ、関

連性を持った興味深いトピックに焦点を

当てながら学習します。コンテンツベース

のカリキュラムに従って、多様な学習スキ

ルと実践方法が要求されるアクティビティ

に学生を参加させることで真のコミュニケ

ーションを促します。 それによって、学生

が自然に生きた英語を習得できるような

生き生きとした学生中心の学習環境を築

くことができ、学生は徐々に、英語を母国

語とするカナダ人学生と同じように授業に

取り組めるようになっていきます。

ランガラ進学英語学習 (LEAP)英語スキルトレーニング学習 (STEP)

Langara English for Academic Purposes （LEAP、ランガラ進学英語学習)は、英語圏の大学やカレッジでフルタイムで勉強することを目指す留学生や英語を母国語としないカナダ人学生の進学準備のためにデザインされた集中型英語プログラムです。LEAPでは、幅広いアカデミック分野から題材を取り上げています。プログラムのすべてのレベルでアカデミックスキルの学習に重点が置かれています。プログラムが進むにつれ、クリティカルシンキングのレベルと学業に必要なスキルの複雑さも上がっていきます。各セッションは7週間で、年間6セッションが設けられています。授業は週20時間行われ、およそ20時間分の宿題をこなすよう求められます。LEAPプログラムには中級から上級まで6レベルに分かれています。クラスの平均サイズは16人です。LEAPプログラムを受講するには、英語力が最低条件に達していなければなりません。

LEAPプログラムでは、学生がランガラカレッジにおいて社会的にも学術的にも溶け込めるよう次のことを行っています：

· 語学力向上を促進

· 学業における優秀さを奨励

· 自立して学習を達成できるよう学生を促す

· 学生が自分の可能性を伸ばしながら参加意識や貢献意識を持てるようなカレッジ環境を提供する

LEAPを修了した学生は、直接オープンエンロールメント（大学編入）プログラムへの受け入れが許可されます。

LEAPの教師陣は英語教授法（TESL)で上級学位を持っています。進学英語教授における経験、異文化への深い理解、学業での成功を目指す若い学生の指導に熱意があるかどうかを見極めて厳しく選考されています。ほとんどの教師がカナダ国外でESLを教えた経験を持っています。

Skills Training for English Proficiency （STEP)プログラムでは、海外からの留学生や英語を母国語としないカナダ人学生を広く受け入れています。STEPはカナダやバンクーバーの環境と文化を学ぶことに重点をおいた、エキサイティングで集中型の初級者向けフルタイム英語学習プログラムです。

STEPプログラムはスピーキング、リスニング、リーディング、ライティングのスキルを伸ばすようデザインされています。バラエティーに富んだトピックや教材、アクティビティが教室を生の英語環境に変えていき、学生はバンクーバーやカナダ、さらには世界についての知識を広めながら、英語のスキルを伸ばしていくことができます。各セッションは7週間で、年間6セッションが設けられています。授業は週20時間行われ、およそ10時間分の宿題をこなすよう求められます。STEPは3つのレベルに分かれています。クラスの平均サイズは14人です。

STEPは学生のこんなやる気を促します：

· カナダ社会に関連したトピックを取り上げカナダの文化について学ぶ

· ランガラのLEAPやアカデミックプログラムに進む STEPの教師陣は英語教授法の学位（TESL)を持ち、ESL指導の経験が豊富な教師ばかりです。多くがカナダ国外でESLを教えた経験を持っています。教師陣は、統合的スキルの指導経験、異文化に対する深い理解、学生が英語の基礎を築けるよう指導する熱意があるかどうかを見極めて厳しく選考されています。

リスニング自然な速度で話される会話を聞き取る特別ゲストスピーカーの話を聞く

リーディング短いESL向け小説や文章を読む語彙を増やす

ライティング考えを表現することに自信をつける文章を修正するスキルを学ぶ

文化カナダの社会を反映するトピックを学習する学外授業を通してバンクーバーを探索する
