A.M.180 collective is an independent creative and promo-tional non-profit organisation based on DIY principles and punk ethics.

Since September 2003, A.M.180 has been running the same-titled multifunctional space in Prague, Czech Republic with the main mission as a platform for contact between the independent music scene and contemporary art scene. A.M.180 arranges exhibitions, live shows and performances, and since October 2007, also has its own record label called AMDISCS Future reserved label, and in 2008 it also formed CREEPY TEEPEE, a festival - summer event for contemporary music and art in Kutná Hora . Dramaturgy is provided under Jakub Hošek (a finalist in the Jindrich Chalupecky art prize in 2005 and 2007), Anežka Hošková

– both visual artists, and anthro-pologist Štepán Bolf. These people got together to secure their own space, for their friends and supporters, and all the people that are not satisfied with the contemporary art and mainstream music scenes in the Czech Republic. Exhibitions in both rooms of the gallery space usually last for three weeks, which enables their interchange. The gallery does not have any financial resources and during the realisation, they trade on the DIY canon.

The Alpineum Produzentengalerie, which was founded in November 2007, is today led and operated by 11 artists, as well as employing a directing manager and one intern.

It organises about 9 exhibitions annually, showing the members’ work as well as including national and international artists. Lectures, artist’s talks and special collabora-tions with other artist-run initiatives accompany the exhibitions and they are suppliment-ed by a small catalogue.

The gallery has been awarded the 2011 “Anerkennungspreis“ (recognition award) by the City of Lucerne for its distinguished contribution to the cultural life in Central Switzerland.

For SUPERMARKET 2012, three artists are going to project an architectonic destabilised showroom, in which a mutually conceived installation takes place alongside selected works from each artist.

Argument is an artist-run space in Tilburg, a city in the south of the Netherlands. Argument was founded in 1993.

Its purpose is to offer art – in all its aspects – a place. Artists get time and space to tackle the experiment and to work on site. Site-specific work is the result. The starting point is the – mental and physical – space.

A residency always ends with an exhibition which usually lasts three weeks. In addition the artist is asked to contribute a piece (a kind of multiple, made in series) as a momento, and for sale.

Argument has invited Karin van Pinxteren (www.karinvanpinx-teren.com) to exhibit at SUPER-MARKET, based on her work and especially her performances. She has created a special performance for SUPERMARKET 2012.

Established in 2007, Art Container is the main gallery of Culture Factory Polymer in Tallinn, Estonia, focusing mostly on independent visual and performance art. It has two gallery spaces and a shared studio space. It is a uniting platform for different disciplines with an international residency pro-gramme, exhibitions, art events, regular workshops, literary evenings, video screenings and music events.

Started in January 2008, a series of international art and perfor-mance events titled Global Container was launched. There have been 21 Global Container events so far with performers from all over the world.

Art Container is a non-profit institution. Its programme is flexible- generally, it is not fixed more than six months in advance. This creates the possibility to manoeuvre and accept different artists at short notice.

Located in an old brewery from 1903 on the shore of lake Frösjön, ART LAB Gnesta supports artists in their research, development and project realisation – provid-ing project studios, exhibition halls and an Artist-in-Residence program.

ART LAB Gnesta aims to catalyse dialogue between the field of art and related areas of research, social and cultural phenomena. In order to generate a deepened debate, ART LAB Gnesta introduces a thematic working method focusing on year-long themes. At SUPER-MARKET they present ‘Green Year 2012’.

Through art ‘Green Year 2012’ investigates the current ecological situation on the planet – mapping the obstacles that block the paths to a more environmentally friendly society and the innova-tive possibilities humankind is facing at this stage in history.

art:screen is an event and platform that showcases new, innovative and contemporary video and moving image work from Swedish and international artists in single-channel screening programmes consisting of a number of short works. For many artists art:screen is the window for showing their work in Sweden and Europe.

art:screen is co-operating with international video art festivals and art organizers where art:screen is invited to curate screening programmes. art:screen also offers single-channel screening programmes to Swedish art institutions, art galleries and art associations who wish to broaden their art activities but do not have access to, or possess, video and moving image works.

ArtMobile consists of a group of artists who run a mobile gallery in Västerås, Sweden. In collabora-tion with partners, such as Designtorget in the city centre of Västerås and Kreativt Centrum in a suburb, our aim is to broaden the audience for contemporary art. Art is presented in spaces not intended for art and new unexpected meetings can evolve.

ArtMobile CaravanTent Triptyk In our exhibition place a tent is attached. The tent will contain artworks from Jennifer Espling, Simone Kuhs and Micke Reuter.

Jennifer Espling takes an interest in the morbid aspects of everyday-objects. Her sculptural work consists of low-tech materials that are sensitively assembled in brutal and humoris-tic ways.

Simone Kuhs’ paintings have a dreamlike character, she makes scenes where people and animals act together. Her works contains frozen movements expressed in a dramaturgic way. In her paintings, it is often young women creating the movement but it is the atmosphere they incarnate that is important.

Micke Reuter works with performance and uses sound, smell and happenings to interact with his audience. He often works with ordinary “everyday-things” and he gives them another status that totally changes their relationship.

In 2012–13, in cooperation with SUPERMARKET, and with support from the Swedish Arts Council and Sida, blank projects will be mentoring new artists' initiatives in South Africa with a view to their participation in SUPERMARKET 2013.

BRISTOL DIVING SCHOOL is a collaborative group, estab-lished in 2009, working across a multidisciplinary field of practices. The collective model is analogous to the notion of a franchise as with each year the group extends to accommodate another graduating generation of creative practitioners from across the southwest of England and Wales.

The collective ethos is united in the shared assertion of a collaborative authorship positioning all production and public discourse under the BRISTOL DIVING SCHOOL banner. With three generations of artists working under the same name, similar models of method-ologies and shared ideologies, the collective attempts to manifest its own cultural identity and artistic discourse.

Responsibility is split between the operating of the gallery and studio space – located in central Bristol – and collaborative projects with other artist led spaces beyond Bristol both nationally and internationally.

Candyland is a non-profit art space run by ten people who take turns in inviting artists to exhibit. Candyland is located in Södermalm, the south-east part of Stockholm, where most of the artists' initiatives in Stockholm are located. Candyland was founded in February 2004. So far, Candyland has arranged more than a hundred exhibitions accompanied by gigs, perfor-mances, workshops, screenings etc over a seven-year period.

At SUPERMARKET 2012, Candyland will present a new work by Marklund & Rekdal entitled “Musical Chair, Melody Table & Sonic Cabinet”.

For more than a decade Marklund (sculptor) & Rekdal (composer) have explored the boundaries between objects and sound.

In this 5th show, grains of sea-salt, put in motion by music, are dancing on top of an object, the dance is reconverted into its ethereal state by a projection of light onto a wall.

CFF – Centrum för fotografi Stockholm, Sweden

Center for Photography (CFF) is a member and professional interest organisation for photographers and photography. The organisation is supported by the Swedish Arts Council and the City of Stockholm. CFF also pursues various collaborations, both nationally and internation-ally, with different actors in the field of photography.

This year CFF presents an exhibition of works by two of its member photographers, Ann-Sofi Rosenkvist, with a selection of photographs from the series Dearest and Robert Blombäck, with a selection of photographs from the series Sauna. Common to both series is that the photographers portray their families, with the point of departure as an existential reflection on life and generational changes. While approaching their work from somewhat different perspectives, by extension, they share a fundamental tone.

Founded in 2003, Cirkulations- Centralen is a non-commercial artist-run space and organisation for the production and presenta-tion of contemporary art and culture. The heart of CC is an artists' cooperative with 24 studios that also houses a gallery and workshop. Since opening they have presented over 100 exhibitions. They have shown the work of member artists as well as that of invited artists and collectives from Sweden and abroad. They also hold seminars, screenings, concerts, and performances.

Apart from the regular gallery they initiated "CC on the wall", a project space for two dimensional works where up-and-coming artist are invited to show their work.

They have participated in previous SUPERMARKET fairs as well as in Art Swap Europe (Berlin) and Alt Cph Art Fair (Copenhagen) and they are currently working to build and strengthen relationships with new groups, spaces, and initiatives. CC has had exchange programs with Copenhagen based SPARK gallery, The White Tube gallery in Oslo and the Copenhagen based gallery DUNK!

The Duplex is a contemporary art centre with an international perspective. It is essentially dedicated to the creations of young artists and it is managed by artists, for artists and for their audience.

The Duplex is part of the DADADA NGO, a non-profit, apolitical organisation which was created in Paris in September 2008. DADADA also manages the Sarajevo Galerija 10m2, created in 2004.

Galerija10m2 is not exactly a gallery but rather an “art house space”, a space of experimentations, confrontations and meetings, a field of artistic experiments, attempts and overflowing; a place of great liberty which enables artists to face an uncommon space.

Since 1976, Ed Video Media Arts Centre has promoted the creation and appreciation of media art of all types. Located in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, Ed Video is an artist-run centre where hundreds of people make and show media art each year. This is supported by equipment rentals, skill-enriching workshops, commissioning opportunities, and gallery programming. Ed Video Gallery hosts dozens of exhibitions, screenings, talks, concerts and events each year showcasing local, national, and international artists at all stages of their careers. Ed Video partners with many other arts organisations to present work, build audiences, and gain exposure. A selection of work from recent gallery exhibitions is on display at SUPERMARKET 2012.

Established in 2008, FELTspace is an artist-run gallery located at the heart of the Central Market district in Adelaide, capital city of South Australia. FELTspace is a hub for Adelaide’s emerging contemporary visual arts community and an important site for the development, exhibition and discussion of new work created by early-career artists. FELTspace is unique as the only Artist-Run Initiative with a permanent site in Adelaide’s city centre dedicated to the promotion of emerging contemporary artists.

The current FELTspace committee is comprised of Polly Dance, Ray Harris, Matt Huppatz, Jessie Lumb, Logan Macdonald, James Marshall and Riley O’Keeffe. This group of emerging artists, writers and curators is committed to the support, development and promotion of contemporary art within South Australia as well as engaging with a national network of artist-run initiatives and artists.

The FOTOGALERIE WIEN is a non-profit organisation, constructed as a collective. We consider ourselves as an informa-tion gallery, running indepen-dently from trends set by the commercial mainstream. Our goals are to show contemporary art photography, interdisciplinary projects and new media while reacting directly to current themes and pressing issues. Regular exhibition exchanges with galleries and institutions abroad continue to be a vital part of today’s programme.

Since its beginnings in 1981 and until today, the FOTOGALERIE WIEN has maintained its characteristic grassroots democratic structure as a collective.

The collective develops exhibition ideas and various programmatic aspects in discussions, drawing upon diverse subjective perspectives, the viewings of numerous submitted portfolios at regular meetings, and the frequent exchange of information with local and international experts and institutions.

Salony Foundation is a non-profit organisation for contemporary visual art established in 2011 by an art historian and political scientist in cooperation with artists; Aleksandra Ola Kubiak, Rafał Wilk, Jarek Jeschke, Michał Jankowski, Basia Bańda and Marek Lalko. They concentrate on social, historical and political visual arts, and realise their projects with local and foreign artists. Their mission is to make the art understandable for the local society, giving them possibility to interact, learn and participate in lectures, workshops and discussions with professional artists. The space is shared between ateliers, exhibition space and a reading room. Since 2012 there is also the possibility to apply for an international artist in residence program in Zielona Góra.

galería de muerte was founded in 2004 by Narutoshi Sekine, founder member of grind core death metal bands "Clotted Symmetric Sexual Organ" and "Butcher ABC". The space consists of a gallery and an underground metal record shop that stocks original merchandise and fanzines. The gallery aims to introduce and support a unique range of artists and art pieces from the cutting edge of alternative cultures.

Previous exhibitions include Alarma! – a collection of a late 80s and early 90s tabloid Mexican newspapers, Ultimate Under-ground (death metal fanzines) and solo artists’ shows.

The gallery will continue to work with young artists who are influenced by sub-cultures, street culture and outsider art for future exhibitions.

Galleri 69 represents a broad spectrum of high-quality artistic expressions created by brilliant and insightful artists. We show the works of artists of all ages and walks of life, from different arenas, which enrich and enlighten both the curators and the audience of Galleri 69. The exhibitions at Galleri 69 are site-specific and produced exclusively for the gallery space.

Galleri 69 invite artists as well as curators and review applications on an ongoing basis based on merit in order to reach new artists and audiences, to get new ideas and views on our gallery space.

Galleri 69 presents a new exhibition monthly or bimonthly, and was initiated by Anja Skjulstad, Cathrine Constanse and Gidsken Braadlie in 2004 as a part of Grünerløkka Lufthavn’s 10 year anniversary. Grünerløkka Lufthavn is a non-profit cultural organisation administrating Galleri 69 as well as the café and concert space “Mir”, which includes rehearsal space for bands and artists’ studios located in the same building.

Galleri Bergman started in 2007, chiefly as a protest against the current system and conditions for exhibiting art in Helsinki. In other local galleries, the artist usually has to pay a rental fee for exhibiting, which is often quite high. Intrinsic to our ethos, is the belief that the artist should not have to pay those fees; we pay enough anyway! We are a loose collective that shares the work and contributes something positive to the Helsinki art scene. In 2012, we are celebrating our fifth anniversary and we are happy to begin our celebrations at the SUPERMAR-KET art fair in Stockholm.

Galleria Huuto Helsinki, Finland

Galleria Huuto is an independent artist collective maintaining two galleries located in Helsinki. Huuto was founded in 2002 as an artist-run space, free from rigid structures and hierarchies. Currently, Huuto maintains two galleries, both located in the centre of Helsinki. Today, the galleries are still partly run on a voluntary basis and costs are kept to a minimum. Since the start, Huuto has been a showcase for over 100 artists and has 88 members today.

Freedom and independence for artistic work are the core values of Huuto, according to which all conditions are arranged. Huuto also offers a forum for new and experimental art: performances, multi-disciplinary projects, music events, screenings and discussions are organised in addition to exhibitions. Projects and collaborations with other organisations and events have become increasingly essential. Huuto is free from a general artistic view or policy: each exhibiting artist can create his or her own.

Galleria Rajatila displays contemporary visual art of all genres, focusing on young artists.

Our programme includes three-week, and one-week exhibition periods. The three-week periods are selected through an open application process every 6 months, whereas for one-week slots, we take applications throughout the year, offering a possibility to react quickly to current events, and to organise more experimental projects.

The gallery is run by a non-profit organisation of artists under the age of 36, called the Rajataide Art Association. Exhibitions, artist talks, video screenings, perfor-mances, and workshops, are all organised through the voluntary work of our members. Founded in 1996, the association has since grown to be a network of over 80 visual art and media professionals.

Gocart Gallery in Visby is run by The Gallery-Association in Gotland. Our aim is to show inter-esting contemporary art. The gallery also serves as a vital cultural focal point for both members and guests.

Gocart Gallery initiates and encourages co-operation and exchanges with local, national and international artists, collectives and organisations.

Our participation in SUPER-MARKET 2012 deals with different themes that humans tend to face and repeat. The following quote from the 1963 movie adaptation of Lord of the Flies serves as part of our inspiration, "Things are beginning to break up, I don’t know why. It all began well. Then people started to forget what really matters.”.

”Themes of Civilisation” is curated by Mona Malmström. Contributing artists include Karin Landin Larsson, Mona Malm-ström, Mårten Medbo, Erik Scheid, Hanna Stahle and C. Anders Wallén.

GRAD, the European Centre for Culture and Debate, known as KC GRAD, was opened in an old warehouse building, in April 2009. The upper floor, houses a large gallery space and an art library, with a café, bar and art shop located on the ground floor.

KC GRAD’s programme focuses on domestic and international contemporary art and it has already received status as one of the official city galleries in Belgrade. The gallery usually announces open calls where artists and curators can apply with their projects. Its artistic director and one of the two founding members, is the artist Ljudmila Strati-mirovic.

In 2012, KC GRAD will start an artist-in-residence programme under the name “Inspired by Belgrade” which will offer artists, photographers, curators, filmmakers, writers and journalists space to work and establish a broader network.

At SUPERMARKET 2012, KC GRAD Gallery will present works of three selected artists: Natasa Kokic / Serbia, Aleksandra Stratimirovic / Serbia, Sweden and Tommaso Bonaven-tura / Italy.

Greylight Projects is an artist-run residence and project space located in a suburban area in Heerlen. The focus of Greylight Projects is the development, production and presentation of autonomous art, without any restrictions in media. The area surrounding the project space offers inspiring opportunities, due to its post-industrial character and all the visible aspects of urban demise, for projects that deal with public space.

Greylight Projects organises approximately eight projects a year, produces several publications and participates in projects with other organisations. National and international artists and

'artistic-researchers' are invited for a working period that results in a presentation. There is space for more then one resident artist at a time and collaborations are welcomed. The project space is located in a former chemist, and thanks to the shop-windows the presentations are visible to the general public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

ID:I gallery is a non-profit organisation with twenty-two professional artist members. Over the nine years since starting in 2003 members have run the gallery voluntarily. Each member selects an exhibition time to present either a solo exhibition or a group-show with other artists or projects. The gallery allows artists extensive freedom for experimen-tal and cross border projects without commercial concerns, and the particular combination of professional and voluntary contributions adds to the diversity of Stockholm’s art-scene. The gallery has approximately twelve exhibitions a year.

For SUPERMARKET 2012 ID:I gallery presents a project by Malin Lobell and Annelie Wallin. Their project deals with green interventions in the cityscape, questions about the hierarchy of aesthetics and ethical values, and relationships between people.

IS-projects, SNO and ParisCON-CRET present a tri-partheid group show celebrating the accelerated interconnectivity now made possible by the internet. This is the means whereby these 3 project houses from 3 different countries have enjoyed an evolving relationship. It has not only given divergent practices a more immediate context for exchange but has also become a tool by which artists may engage in a dialogue on an international platform.

The display consists of 30 visual outcomes in the form of limited edition T-shirts achieved via an online process by associated artists invited from around the globe. These are installed in relation to a wall image produced by artists in long distance collaboration, highlighting again the potential for developing the non-objective through the internet.

Its principles are based on The European Year of Volunteering 2011. It is a product of artists, scholars and local associations. Kallio Kunsthalle's main partner is Helsingin Optimistit, and its site is at the ex-meeting room of the Association for Healthy Lifestyles, at Toinen Linja 31 Helsinki.

Kallio Contemporary Art Museum is a 160x120cm table with a glass ceiling. During the exhibition year, the best (or worst) from the exhibitions will be collected and displayed inside the table, which will, at the end, go touring.

‘Unbuilt houses‘. May Woodhouse, born 1872, serves tea and biscuits containing secret messages to the visitor. The performance suggests the story of something as unique as a handsome Venetian palace in central Stockholm, one that will be built by artists for artists in 1899. Over tea, May invites the visitor at SUPERMARKET, together with her, to imagine and fantasise about possible political developments in such a building, to fear antagonisms and alliances and to make up plans for the next century to come. Kultur am Nauener Platz is located in an old factory building. In 1984 a group of artists saved the building from demolition and after a two-year-period of restoration it is well known as one of the independent, artist-run cultural centers in Berlin-Mitte. In addition to living and working spaces for artists, Kultur am Nauener Platz provides space for lectures, film, exhibitions and concerts, there are also frequent workshops that take place at the center.

This year they have chosen “the small size” as a theme:

As we see our diversity in the foreground, we seek to convey this strength of the group. By specifying a similar format one can easily compare and recognize better the differences.

Located in the region of Friesland in the north of the Netherlands, Kunsthuis SYB offers contempo-rary artists a workspace on the sidelines of the (art) world. The aim of the Kunsthuis SYB residency program is to stimulate and support artists' research, experimentations and potential collaborations. Artists are invited on the basis of a project proposal to work and reside in the house for six weeks. Every weekend the doors are open to the public, who can follow the working process. The work period ends with a public event where the artist shows the process activated by the residency in the form of a presentation or by exhibiting new works.

Resident artists for 2011 include: Noa Giniger, Walter van Broekhuizen, Arjen de Leeuw, Rory Pilgrim, Ruth Legg, Anna Franceschini, Emily Williams, Joaquín Cociña, Cristóbal León, and students from the second year of the Piet Zwart Institute, Master of Fine Art Program, at the Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam University.

Kurant is an artist-run space for young and emerging artists established in January 2009 by Kåre Grundvåg, Line Solberg Dolmen and Geir Backe Altern. It is currently run by Geir Backe Altern, Kristin Tårnes, Susanne Sakariassen and Maria Danielsen. Kurant has played a very central role in the process of creating a scene for contemporary art in Tromsø. In addition to regular exhibitions the space has been used for concerts, dance performances, happenings, a film club and more. Kurant usually has one or more exhibitions/events per month, and the artists are selected by invitation or on application.

Since autumn 2010 it has also had a studio space with room for 6 artists. Since the opening of Kurant, Mondo Tromso has been based at Kurant and has been available during exhibitions and other events. It is a mobile shop which contains fanzines, publications and art products among other things.

Lo and Behold’s participation in SUPERMARKET 2012 is a call for artists to work within the boundaries of the urban landscape, and uses as an index, the unique nature of an artist’s approach to an environment which is globalised and shares similar problems and concerns.

The participating artists follow a specific working process both in terms of method and end result. They are asked to imagine and to realise an intervention on a public site in the city where they live. Afterwards they photograph the intervention and submit it in the form of a poster.

The end result is a number of site-specific works which demonstrate the artists’ varying investigations and concerns and at the same time serve as an intervention in the urban environment. The intervention walks the fine line between legitimacy and illegitimacy, since viewing the art object is not chosen but rather it is imposed upon the viewer.

The project is organised by Lo and Behold and curated by Artemis Potamianou and Giorgos Papadatos.

MANTOVA EYES is an artists’ network founded by Marco Brioni, Massimiliano Boschini and three artistic collectives; Pommefritz Crew, la Pecora Nera and Arci Fuzzy. Their goal is to create an environment for new ways of thinking and cooperating. They facilitate connections between spaces, artists and other people. Mantova Eyes is based on the idea that artists in networks and collectives can support each other to gain recognition and call for artists’ opportunities.

Established in 2004 by artist Alexia Turlin, the Milkshake Agency is her workshop studio with a window-shop. It's located just behind the station in the middle of Geneva. The window offers about 10 exhibitions annually which are visible 24 hours a day and 7/7. Guest artists are established, emerging, new or neighbours (from the local or national scene, sometimes international). The studio works like an artistic agency and also proposes extra activities (editions, lectures, performances, video screenings, an annual Christmas collective show in the whole place, specific dinners etc). It's an art place melting with the everyday life, accessible to everyone and promotes and diffuses contempo-rary art in all of its forms.

Art Association MOBA was founded by visual artists, with the aim of sharing and spreading art. The word ‘Moba’ is common in the language of peasants, farmers and villagers, and it means voluntary work aimed at helping each other in the fields. Art can work in a similar way. The organisation’s new art space is located in the village of Banatska Dubica in Vojvodina, northern Serbia. The MOBA art space was opened in 2010 in collaboration with artists from Formverk (art zone) Sweden.

Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre is a non-profit organisation and contempo-rary art gallery in Kingston, Ontario. Modern Fuel supports innovation and experimentation, and is committed to the education of interested publics and the diversification of its audiences. Modern Fuel’s New Media Workspace provides video production/post-production support and services in order to encourage the growth of the New Media Arts Community in Kingston. Applications are accepted from local, national, and international artists with an annual deadline of May 1.

Syphon is Modern Fuel’s arts and culture publication that acts as a conduit between the arts community in Kingston and communities elsewhere. Off Limits is a contemporary and independent art space located in the multicultural neighborhood of Lavapiés. It is a place for exhibi-tions and debate that investigate and propose ways to alter contemporary reality. Off Limits is run by Maelström - a cultural association that gets advice from a committee composed of artists, curators, academics and cultural operators. All the activities programmed by the association are public and free.

For SUPERMARKET 2012 Off Limits and the Spanish Embassy in Sweden presents the second edition of “6 EURO BUDGET”. Subtitled

‘Artistic Practices and Precarious-ness’ this Spanish/Swedish collaboration is a creative response to the increasingly precarious position of many artists. It is based

on the idea that it is important to show that artists have the ability to generate projects and ideas, even under less favorable conditions but that it is also important to draw attention to the need to change these circumstances, and develop more flexible working structures that support creativity and observe more closely the needs and realities of contemporary artists. The exhibition is made possible with the support of the Spanish Embassy in Stockholm.

Cabello/Carceller, the exhibition curators are an artists’ team formed by Helena Cabello and Ana Carceller. They have worked togeth-er since 1993 and have expanded their artistic practice through collaborative writing, critical theory, teaching and curatorship.

The OFIS gallery was opened in May 2011. It is a continuation of Art Business Consulting (ABC), an artist-run gallery which existed for five years from 2004 to 2009. The new space is a bit bigger and located in former factory which remains from soviet time in the centre of Moscow. The space and rent are shared with another company of two people who have an architectural studio. The office interior is flexible and easy to transform into a “white cube” for every new exhibition. For every opening, the full space become a total installation made by invited artists. On other days, it is an artist studio and co-working space which are merged or integrated with the exhibition. One of the experimental themes for OFIS gallery is coexistence and working close to each other. The artist Maxim Ilyukhin is the founder of OFIS gallery.

In SUPERMARKET 2012, we will exhibit a few different works by artists showed in OFIS gallery.

In the exhibition “Dialogues”, which was held in Saint Peters-burg from 25 Aug.-5 Sept 2011, QWERTY’s concept was the metaphor of clothing.

Each member of the group gave his/her interpretation of clothes.

QWERTY produced a “Foreign Exchange Performance” with a clothes factory.

At the opening we exchanged clothes with other people. This performance included a fitting room, and a “factory” where new clothes were modified.

The exchange/performance was a great success in Russia and we would like to continue our study of the “factory” and clothes-exchange at SUPERMARKET 2012, and see how Swedes react to the same concept.

QWERTY is a group of 10 artists who have worked together during the past 5 years with different kinds of exhibitions.

rainbowartsproject (RAP) aims to document, develop and promote queer culture primarily in the visual sector. RAP is constantly looking into issues relevant to minority groups, in particular sexual minorities: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) and people otherwise considered social rejects when it comes to being queer and different.

RAP is interested by creative people whose works constantly challenge and question the notion of queer culture. Queer culture for us is anything involving sexual minorities, gender-specific themes, social minorities, sub-cultures and rejected subjects: people who still face discrimination and rejection from the general public, particularly in the country where we are currently based.

Sant Marc studio has become a centre for thoughts, ideas and research in the field of art, for contemporary artists who either live here or have spent some time on the island; hence the importance of the exchanges that it has sparked off through experiences, reflections and proposals that have gradually defined the studio’s goal. Projects have been inspired by a specific real physical context or back-ground setting such as exhibitions like Espai net (2000), Les arts de sant marc (2001), Mallorca tropical (2002), Literal (2003), Futbólicos (2005 and 2007) which exhibited in Barcelona, participation in SUPERMAR-KET 2011, and P.I.T. which was exhibited in cultural centres in Mallorca. Also Sant Marc has sparked off the organisation of numerous exhibitions at other exhibition centres. SCIBASE is a collaboration between two UK artists’ initiatives – SCI from Liverpool and Basement Arts Projects from Leeds.

Both groups have the same aims – to see an expansion in interna-

tional collaboration and exchange partnerships between their artists and arts organisations.

SCI, the Liverpool-based artist-led group, consist of practicing artists who have exhibited in numerous locations nationally and internationally and are linked by their connections to Tate Liverpool. Basement Arts Projects based in Leeds, aim to create a project space that will provide 4 residency opportunities and 4 exhibition opportunities for artists every year.

The residency and workshop centre SERDE was founded in 2002 as a platform for both local and international inter-disciplin-ary collaboration. This artist-run organisation, seeks to develop the collaboration between different cultural fields, organisations and professionals. SERDE’s main activities focus on the exchange between the fields of culture, science and education; in addition to a residency programme, workshops, seminars, lectures, presentations etc.

SERDE Residency Centre is located in the historic centre of Aizpute in Western Latvia (180 km from the capital city Riga and 30 kilometres from the Baltic coast). Since 2002, SERDE has hosted over 500 artists from over 15 different countries, on both long and short term residencies.

At SUPERMARKET 2012, SERDE will present the project ‘Folk Pharmacy’ – an artistic interpretation of the use of indoor and wild plants as food and folk medicine. In this project, the artists re-introduce the audience to the tradition of plant-foraging and invite them to turn these gifts of nature and their knowledge of them into a useful source of energy.

Shift is a collaborative artists’ studio that opened in December 2004 in the renovated Tashiro-Kaplan arts complex; an artists’ live/work building in the Pioneer Square district of Seattle. Shift was established as an artist-run space with the primary goal of supporting Northwest area artists, working in a variety of media, who are dedicated to creating challenging and innovative work. Members are given complete control to curate their own shows. Shift is beginning to expand its boundaries by showing work, as a group, in various venues. For SUPERMARKET 2012 the artists of Shift are interpreting the word/concept of “shift”.

SIC was founded in 2010 by nine artists. The aim is to create a new exhibition space in Helsinki that will serve not only as a gallery but also as a Kunsthalle or a cultural centre. The first year exhibition program consists of nine one-person exhibitions and two group exhibitions. In addition to the exhibition program the idea is to use the space for a variety of relevant events.

The space is run by a producer hired by the group and is supported by foundations and sponsors.

Small Projects is an artist-run space that organizes events and exhibitions. It supports works that challenges boundaries and promotes critical discussion. Their goal is to provide an exhibition space for both emerging and established artists with a program spanning solo, group and curated exhibitions and performances. They give special attention to artists living in Tromsø and the northern part of Norway, also creating possibilities to exhibit internationally through exchanges and collaborations with similar organisations outside of Norway. At present Small Projects is collaborating with independent cultural initiatives in the UK, Estonia, Finland and Sweden.

Small Projects was founded by Filipino artist Jet Pascua and is supported by the Arts Council of Norway and the city of Tromsø.

The participation of Small Projects in SUPERMARKET 2012 is supported by the Office for Contemporary Art, Norway (OCA).

Studio44 was founded in 2002 by a group of Stockholm-based artists with the aim of creating an independent, non-commercial space for contemporary art. It is a dynamic organisation, character-ised by its openness to different forms of expression. Today it includes 28 visual artists who manage the space together and show their own work, as well as invite other artists to participate in themed exhibitions.

Studio44 also works with a curatorial focus, producing exhibitions that make connections between the members’ work and a wider artistic community. In recent years, studio44 has collaborated with Pride Festival (SE), montanaberlin (DE), Alt-cph (DM), Fiberart (SE), UND#5 (DE) and V.art (SE). Some exhibitions have been shown at other galleries and art centres as a result of cooperations and exchanges.

The works of Rikard Fåhraeus complete a full circle in their ability to join concept, poetry, politics and artistic craftsmanship. His objects and installations manage to give us epiphanies with their familiar but slightly twisted way of revealing our ideas of the world. Their subjects are what could be called new archetypes for the 21st century. With an easy elegance they evoke feelings of both the blissed and the uncanny.

Superclub Gallery and Studios opened in 2010 to provide affordable studio and work spaces to young and emerging contempo-rary artists in Edinburgh. We officially opened our gallery in March 2011 and since then have held over twelve exhibitions, a range of music events, perfor-mances, zine launches and talks. Superclub is home to thirteen artists working in a range of disciplines, mostly recent graduates from Edinburgh College of Art.

Superclub is committed to providing a platform for emerging talent in Scotland, as well as bringing international artists to Edinburgh to open dialogues and channels of communication, and encourage future collaboration and experimentation.

Since its inception in 2006, Tegen2 has presented a broad spectrum of exhibitions in opposition to the on-going discourse regarding the I-am-here-now-culture of permanent dissatisfaction. The art world is in no way a free zone; in fact it fits perfectly into this pattern, which stems from the lack of social and collective alternative visions to our socio-economic system.

The question therefore is: how can artists use, abuse and refuse the system at the same time?

*Oy wei! has a dual meaning: the well-known Yiddish expression oy vey! ("oh my!”) and also alludes, in this case, to Ai Weiwei, the highest-ranking artist on the contemporary art scene today. An artist who combines art, activism and a strong urge to reach out to people – not only to the art world.

3Bgd is an initiative of the group of artists: Salman Trtovac, Milorad Mladenović, Anica Vucetić, Oliver Parlić, Radoš Antonijević, Marko Marković, Sanja Latinović, Ranko Đanković, Milena Milosavljević and Marina Marković.

Third Belgrade is designed as a lively, dynamic and energetic artistic centre which brings together local artists alongside both national and international practitioners, providing exhibition space, workshops and other educational content for the general public. TB space consists of the central gallery, the library, lounge spaces and residential premises suitable for lectures and workshops, and the garden which can be used an open stage for various art events.

Totaldobze art centre is lead by the artist Kaspars Lielgalvis. Artists Laura Prikule, Anda Lace, Inga Meldere, Katrina Sauskina, Sabine Vekmane, curator Odrija Fisere, Katrina Vastlave, managers Vineta Kalnina and others have taken part in Totaldobze art centre's work.

It is an organisation and a space with artist studios, residencies and a hall for artist presentations, discussions, performances, workshops, poetry slams etc. At least once a year, a bigger group exhibition of contemporary art is organised there by a curator invited by Totaldobze.

The main focus is on cultural politics and the creative process, provoking interdisciplinary projects.

The artist-run exhibition space Toves Galleri, Vesterbro ConTemporary Workout Space is situated in and named after the half-empty, half-bankrupt shopping arcade Toves Galleri, which was named after the renowned author and ghetto girl Tove Ditlevsen (1917–76). Its pounding soundtrack comes from a fitness centre next door. Toves Galleri is inevitably site-specific.

The author Piet Hein (1905–96) designed Sergels Torg’s super elliptical roundabout in 1959. He also had an affair with Tove Ditlevsen sometime in the 1940s. Connecting the stagnated shopping arcade with the non-commercial art at SUPER-MARKET, we are making a cocktail of anecdotes and pop culture as a conductive principle of chance for our collective work

– thus inspired by yet another Piet Hein/Donald Duck principle; flipism, or more specifically: flipping a coin as a catalyst for small time enlightenment, a gesture rather than a decisive move.

Site-specific installations for 20 years.

Working with installation pieces is a strange schizophrenic task. Within a short period of time the piece is designed, erected, enjoyed and then torn apart. There is no machine for eternity at stake, like in painting which in principle lives forever once it is made. The installation piece turns into garbage and dirt even before it leaves infancy and there is nothing you can do about it.

No regrets, no sentimentality. I hope you will remember it, but know it is over.

The vacated room only needs a brush up before the next customer moves in and works frantically day and night fuelled by high hopes and caffeine. Not unlike a butcher, the artist has to find a way to attack the room and cut it up with precise incisions. He has to make quick judgements. What is his focus? Is it the floor, the centre, the walls, the windows? Objects might hang or stand, or they might shimmer obscurely in the dark and get covered by brute noises.

This is what humans do. They get occupied by strange things.

Unit One Gallery is an artist-run gallery located in 798 Art District in Beijing. The gallery was founded in 2010 by the artist Li Gang. Unit One Gallery shows Chinese, Korean and European artists with exhibitions generally lasting from one week to 10 days. The varied programme consists of painting, sculpture, installation, photography and performance. In 2011, we mainly exhibited photography and video works. Openings take place every second week from March each year. At our openings, we have music and film screenings and weather-permitting, we can enjoy a barbeque in the open air.

After the opening, the artist is in attendance for the duration of the exhibition and is available to visitors. Prior to the opening, the gallery helps the artists with their specific work requirements, in gaining access to work spaces such as photo labs, foundries, poster print shops, and arranging studio visits etc.

The artist-run space Verkligheten is situated in an old tram-factory on the east side of Umeå, close to Bildmuseet and the Art Academy. We felt that Umeå needed a space that was not so fixed and clean, a space for artistic experiments. Verkligheten collaborates with artist groups and galleries abroad and also with the different art institutions in Umeå. Verklighet-en is part of the Umeå Iaspis group that every year welcomes international artists to their residency programme.

Verkligheten presents Rasmus Albertsen, a visual artist, born in 1977 in Dronninglund, Denmark.

Adam Budak writes: “The doubt of everything is what constitutes the seemingly delirious but at the same time, rigorous and precise work of Rasmus Albertsen. His short videos are self-portraits of a solitary subject, trapped in a claustrophobic chamber of his own insecurity”.

Volt presents new art projects by Norwegian and international contemporary artists. Stichting ZET (1994) was founded with the aim of organising exhibitions that focus on “drawing” as a point of reference in contemporary art practice. DAT (Claudie deCleen, Tammo Schuringa and Corinne Bonsma): Unfinished and incomplete drawings, preliminary drawings and studies are exchanged by post and worked on collectively.

"Drawing-things": PJ Rogge-band's work has a combination of a rough approach and lively language expressed through playful performances.

For Stichting ZET Alite Thijsen developed the project Amstelpark Ode.

Zeta Center started its activity in 2007. It is a non-profit centre focused on the visual arts that promotes collaborative, profes-sional practices between artists and curators, critics, researchers and other art professionals in order to contribute to the establishment of an active contem-porary art scene in Albania.

Zeta's goal is to cultivate audiences and promote contem-porary art (which we consider an inherent characteristic, of emancipated societies) through; exhibitions, presentations, collaboration projects at local, regional and international level, as well other cultural activities.

The Zolder Museum (zolder = attic), Museum of Contemporary Art in Amsterdam, opened in January 2011.

The mission of the Zolder Museum is to become an economically, politically and culturally independent art institution. Besides hosting art events, the Zolder Museum produces and publishes The Zolder Museum Paper quarterly and a fashion line: Marcel Ivens (in collaboration with Aimee Zito Lema). The Zolder Museum is dedicated to the dialogue between art and the art institution, the artist and the community, the established and the experimental. Its mission is to challenge and develop the knowledge and understanding of the system of relations within the world of art; and above all, its mission is focused on making art as a societally beneficial and significant human practice.
