¿QUÉ HORA ES? – ADDITION To state what time it IS, you almost always say

“Son las (hour) y (minutes)” Ejemplo: Son las tres y diez Son las once

Son las cinco y media

BUT when it is 1 o’clock (a.m. or p.m.) you say

“Es la (hour) y (minutes)” Ejemplo: Es la una Es la una y veinte

“A las…” “A la…”

SUBRACT the minutes from the next hour.

English time = to 3:55 “It’s three fifty-five” 3:55 “It’s five to four”

Spanish time = (next hour) menos (minutes) 3:55 “Son las tres y cincuenta y cinco” 3:55 “Son las cuatro menos cinco”
