    Tafsir Surah at-Tur (52), verse 35-37

{ba`_^]\[Zz Allah says, what is interpreted to mean,

"Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators?" (At-Tur52:35)

Shaykh 'Abdur Rahman Bin Nasir as-Sa'd, may Allah have mercy upon him, saidabout this verse,

This is a proof and evidence against them, the polytheists, of a matter, which will notbe possible for them to do anything except to submit to the truth; or to depart from

    what necessitates intelligence and religion.

It is a clarification that they deny the Tawheed of Allah (i.e. the worship of Allahalone), it is a clarification that they reject His Messenger; and that is a prerequisite fordenying that Allah created them.

Indeed, it has been established in the 'Aql(i.e. intelligence) along with the Shara'(i.e.Revelation), that the matters previously mentioned is not devoid of one of thefollowing three matters.

Either they were created by nothing, meaning there is no creator that created them yetthey came into existence without any origination or one, who brought them intoexistence and this, is the essence of inconceivability; Or either they are the creators oftheir own selves, and this also is inconceivable.

Indeed, it is not imaged that they brought their own selves into existence; Therefore,

when these two matters are invalided and the impossibility of those two mattersbecomes evident, then the third matter is determined that Allah, is He who hadcreated them.

In addition, when that is determined, then know that Allah the Most High, is the Oneto be worshipped alone; which that worship is not suitable or appropriate for anyoneor anything except for Him the Most High (i.e. Allah).

Allah says what is interpreted to mean,

"Or did they create the heavens and the earth?" (At-Tur 52:36)

This is a question indicating to the establishment of the negation; meaning, they didnot create the heavens and the earth, had they done so then, they would have beenpartners along with Allah; and this is a very clear matter. However, they are those whoreject the truth and .

Allah says, what is interpreted to mean,

"Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with theauthority to do as they like?" (At-Tur 52:37)

Meaning, do they, those who reject the truth, have with them the treasures of themercy of your Lord, which they bestow upon whomever they will, and prevent itfrom whomever they want? Meaning, for that reason they denied access to Allah that

He bestowed prophecy upon his servant and messenger Muhammad as if they aretrustees, who are commissioned over the treasures of Allah's mercy. They are lower

Allah says, what is interpreted to mean,

"Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like?" (At-Tur 52:37)

Meaning, do they have complete control over Allah's creation and dominion by meansof force and victory? The matter is not like that. On the contrary, they are powerlessand poor.
