Usually, people assume simplified Chinese would be easier to start with, but tradition-al Chinese is your access to genuine Chinese culture. If you understand traditional Chi-nese, then you would have no problem recognizing most of the characters in simplified Chinese. It’s a win win!

Classes are taught in Chinese, and is divided into 9 levels, starting from beginners’ to advance. Students will take placement test, so that we would know which levels suits the student best. Listening, speaking, reading and writing are equally important. For beginners’ level, we focus more on speaking and conversation skills. When the student reached intermediate, we emphasize more on writing and written language. For advance learners, we introduce news and more into thoughts and culture.

Taiwan is a perfect place for Mandarin learning, so I chose Tamkang University. I like Mandarin, especially traditional Mandarin. It’s pictograph, it’s profound and interesting. Teacher teaches us a lot everyday, listening, reading, speaking and writing, I’m getting better. I’m happy learning Mandarin here, it’s a pleasure to know the teacher and classmates from other countries. I like writing a lot. TKU has modern equipment and great environment. I’ll study hard and will not let my parents down. Fighting!!!

I like Tamkang because The students are here not just to make friends, but to really study Chinese with a purpose. I also like my lao shi because she answers all the questions and really make us understand the lesson through everyday practice. I also like the class size (of 12 students) because it’s not too many or too few. I have made good friends with my classmates since the first day of Chinese class which make learning Chinese really fun.
