Introduction
Problems in Tablet Compressing1.Capping and LaminationCapping:- Partial or complete separation of top or bottomcrowns of tablet main body.Lamination:- Separation of a tablet into two or more distinctlayers.
Reasons: less binder, powder too dry, compression force too high, compression process too fast
2. Picking and StickingPicking:-Adherence of the tablet material from the surface of a tablet by a punchSticking:-Adherence of tablet material to the die walls resulting in chipping of tablet edges producing rough edges and causing the lower punches uneasy to move resulting in damage of cam tracks and punch faces
Reasons: less binder, less antiadherent, powder too wet/sticky
3. Weight variation too high
Reasons: powder has poor flowing ability, compression speed too fast, granules powder too big/too diverse
Compactibility & Compressibility
Compactibility: is the ability of the powdered material to be compressed into a tablet of specific tensile strength
Compressibility: its ability to decrease in volume under pressure
Compact: static Compress: dinamic
Uses the parameter F (Force):Shows the depth of upper punch needed to compress a tablet to the strength of 0 kg
F>400, poor compactibilityNeed to be combined with a filler (excipient) with F value less than 400
Compactibility
