Distillation is the most popular method for extracting essential
oils (90% of aromatic plants), and can be divided into three types:
water distillation, water and steam distillation, and steam distillation.
How to Extract
Distillation
Expression, or cold pressing, is used to extract essential oils from the
peels of citrus fruits like grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, and bergamot.
Expression (Cold Pressing)
Most flowers contain too little volatile oil to undergo expression,
but their chemical components are too delicate and easily denatured
by high heat, so the solvent extraction is adopted.
Solvent Extraction
It is important to keep in mind that not all essential oils are created equally. The purity of an oil can changedepending on geographic location, extract methods, weather, and other factors.
Its Functions & Applications It’s more than that - some scents can actually improve your health. Essential oils can help you relax or sleep, improve your skin or digestion, free you from depression and inflammation, increase immunity, and spiritual awareness, whose benefits go well beyond a pleasant smell.
