• Combined two forty year old buildings to create this second hand book store.

• Innovative use of layout and design to create a cozy yet spacious feeling inside the bookstore.

• Bookcase filled with text books and winefor a romantic ambiance.

• Cai Han-Zhong removed the floor from parts of the floor to create a staggered layer between the top floor and the basement.

Quanmei Theater ( 全美戲院 )

• Nearby another historic site, 大井頭• One of the first places to be

reclaimed.• The busiest place during the Ming and

Qing dynasties.

• Established in 1950 by Ou brothers as The First Quan Cheng Theater.

• Was renamed to its current name, Quan Mei Theater, in 1969.

• Added an additional viewing room in 1987.• Renovated facilities and replaced old

wooden chairs with leather ones 1999.

State Temple of the Martial God ( 武廟 )

• Built in 1666, with the Grand Matsu Temple, it is one of the oldest temples in Tainan.

• Originally intended as the Ning Jing King’s ancestral temple.• In 1690 a Qing dynasty emperor rebuilt the temple and changed its

main gate to its current look.

• In 1737, during the Qing dynasty, it was decided that royal worship ceremonies would be held twice a year in Martial Temple.

• The Japanese government wanted to tear down the Martial Temple in order to to broaden Yong Fu Rd in 1906, but community was able to successfully petition against this.

• Famous for its beautiful traditional side wall.• Unfortunately Typhoon Fanapi knocked down a plum tree that was

planted by the king during the Ming dynasty.

• "Memory wall” was created by the architect Liu, Guo-Cang.• White lines painted on the blue wall show the previous structure and

furniture of the building.• Liu Tsang said, "The contents of the wall is a memory of the past with

the future way to express past, and set the past and future, three-dimensional and plane.”

• Built in 1905, the West Market was once an important and prosperous market.

• The JJ-W Hotel is a new life of the old Jia Jia Hotel near the historic West Market in Tainan, thus its name, which stands for both the new and the old Jia Jia, representing a close relationship between each other.

• The JJ-W Hotel inherits the old Jia Jia’s inclination to be a story-teller, loving to tell stories about the old Jia Jia and the old Tainan.

• JJ-W’s reconstructed appearance of building and its fulfilled guestroom designs have been narrating, always reminding its visitors of what it owes to Tainan’s history. The JJ-W wishes to keep its history living in the present as lively as its century-old tree, which has been accompanying the hotel ever since it was built.
