The China (Shanghai) International Optics Fair (SIOF 2016) is going to shine again in the Pearl of the Orient

For immediate release

China (Shanghai) International Optics Fair, the most sizeable optical trade fair of Asia, will take place on 24 -

26 February 2016 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre again, occupying all the 4

exhibition halls. The venue is the best and most accessible spot in town with the best facilities as it is the exact

venue of the World Expo 2010. SIOF 2016 will occupy a stunningly massive gross exhibition area of over

80,000 square meters, of which Hall 2 is the prestige international product hall. Halls 1, 3 and 4 will

accommodate iconic Chinese exhibitors. In order to realize the global recognition of Chinese eyewear

designer brands and to parallel achievements of international counterparts, the basement concourse will be

deployed as the Chinese “Fashion Designers’ Masterpieces Exhibition Hall” while Hall 4 shall take on the

important role of “Boutique Gallery”, both designated to showcase China’s best design rationale and

innovative eyewear to all guests and visitors, local and overseas alike. And to better serve international

exhibitors, SIOF 2016 has incorporated a Procurement Zone in the international hall to facilitate buyers to

place orders on their desired products after viewing on site. Renowned international exhibitors who have

specially acquired space in the Procurement Zone in addition to their booth area include 101 Studio, Flair,

Kalla, Porsche Design and Ports. Others have incorporated the procurement section in their own booths.

Meanwhile, the success of SIOF is well recognized by the country：

� It is endorsed by China’s Ministry of Commerce as one of the most prestigious exhibitions of the country.

� 1 of the 10 most distinguished exhibitions of the light industry of China under the China National Light

Industry Council.

And in aggregate terms, all SIOF editions top the Asian list of 1st class eyewear exhibitions in terms of the

number of international brands and scale of exhibition area. No wonder buyers from all over the world have

expressed keen interest to visit SIOF 2016. We expect over 70,000 times of visiting to be recorded again. Their

determination to visit is undeterred by the gravity of international events taking place around the same time

of the year because everybody knows that the biggest optical market is in China.












On a macro level, according to the figures released by the General Administration of Customs of the PRC,

during January to November 2015, China’s exports of eyewear products (equipment excluded) amounted to

US$4.53 billion, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 1.53%. Over the same period, China imported US$0.95

billion worth of eyewear products, mirroring an annual increase of 16.16%. On a micro level, pertaining to the

Chinese optical scene, currently about 700 million among the country’s population of 1.4 billion require visual

correction, which is equivalent to the total population of Europe; among whom, 50 million – mostly women,

are wearing contact lens. Hence, the quest for high quality eyewear, associated equipment and technology is

definite. China has now also become the largest and most influential optical market in the world.

Shanghai, being the national economic generator, sets the ultimate trendsetting goal for all other Chinese

cities to follow. Therefore, the number of exhibitors and visitors drawn to this grand annual international

optical event increases each year. Shanghai is also indeed at present the most ideal and forefront regional

fashion hub for renowned sunglasses and eyewear models developed by established international fashion

houses and that explains why SIOF has always excelled in global brand displays. As for timing, SIOF takes

place right after the Chinese New Year in spring, which is the beginning of the buying season of the year,

especially in preparation for the summer months, hence global buyers rushing to SIOF 2016 shall reap

numerous rewards. SIOF 2016 always performs the very important role as business platform for launching and

promoting new products and technology to impress the buyers of China and the world. And to flashback on

the success of SIOF 2015, the show’s mega international procurement force was reflected by a very impressive

71,000 times of visiting. At SIOF 2016, we are proud to have 275 international exhibitors from 23 countries

and regions and 409 global brands. In relation to the number of Chinese exhibitors at SIOF 2016, it stays over

500 again.

As regards international group participation, we are happy to have the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers

Association group supported by the Hong Kong Productivity Council with 18 Hong Kong exhibitors! Full

support has also been rendered to SIOF jointly by Korea Optical Industry Support Centre & Korea Optometric

Association for years and their dedication has now become perpetual, regardless of global economic climates

& competition from similar overseas events since the dragon shall continue to stay on top of the world as the

single largest optical market, a statement quantitatively supported by the figures stated above.
