I hope that you all had a wonderful extended break and some precious time together as a family. The children all seem very happy to be back with us despite the gloomy weather and it has been a treat to see them reconnect with their friends and teachers in such a positive way. This term is a particularly busy one for our Music students and teachers with the Music Alive and Hunter Fry events in early August followed by the School Concert later in September. We will provide updates about these events throughout the term and encourage you to note the dates in your diary. A reminder that the date for the musical performance of The Lion King has changed and will now be held on Wednesday 14 September at Xavier College in Kew at 7.30pm. Welcome to New Families I would like to welcome some new students to the School this term – Edward Chen, Matilda Allen and Aryav Shah have all started in K3, Albert Eggleston, Henry Hall, Selena and Bryan Wang and Lucas Hauser have all entered K4 and Daisy Hall has started in Prep. We look forward to catching up with you and your families throughout the term. Swimming Update Years 4, 5 and 6 commenced their swimming program this week at Klim Swim in Richmond. We have decided that sports uniform may be worn to and from school on swimming days as it makes it much easier when getting changed. Having said that, we need to ensure that student’s sports uniforms are neat, clean and most importantly adequately warm to venture to and from the pool. Year 6 hoodies, sports jackets and rugby tops are perfect for this time of year. Collection Forms Next week your child will come home with a Collection Form for you to complete and return to school. The purpose of this form is to provide us with the general school collection pattern for your child/family, particularly for those children who are travelling on public transport. Please return these to your child’s classroom teacher over the next week or so.

Child Safe Standards Some of you may be aware that Ministerial Order 870 (which contains new Child Safe Standards) will come into effect on 1 August 2016. This Order affects all parties that have contact with children and is designed to support cultural change within organisations to protect children from harm. The Order contains seven standards that organisations such as schools must address. The link below provides details of the Order together with some useful information about these standards which you may find of interest. Over the next few months, you will hear more from us about how the School plans to address and implement various aspects of these standards. Many of the policies that we currently have in place are already meeting or exceeding the requirements however this is a good opportunity to review and refine these. I look forward to sharing further details with you throughout the term. (http://www.vrqa.vic.gov.au/childsafe/Pages/default.html) Class Captains Congratulations to the class captains for Term 3.

Staff News This term there have been some important changes to our staffing that I am keen to share with you. As you would be aware, Mr AJ leaves us at the end of next week. I am sure that you will agree that Mr AJ has made an invaluable contribution to the introduction of Maths sets across the upper year levels and to the development and management of our extensive extra-curricular program so it is going to take many pairs of shoes to fill his big footprint! Ms Thea Blackler will be working with Mr AJ’s Year 4 and 5 Maths sets for the remainder of the year while also continuing with her classroom teaching role in 2B on Thursday and Friday.

The extra-curricular programs will be managed by Ms Jessica Close and Mrs Louisa Bolton. Louisa will manage the overall organisation of the program while Jessica will help with day to day management and attendance. I would encourage you to contact Louisa or Jessica if you have any queries concerning the extra-curricular programs. Cindy Jackman at Reception will manage the online calendar that can be accessed through Parent Lounge. Our lovely Teacher-Librarian, Elaine Mason, has taken on a new role from this term working 3 days per week teaching ICT. Elaine will also teach the Year 4 Religious Education program in place of Mrs AJ. Elaine has had prior experience in teaching both ICT and RE and is looking forward to integrating her knowledge in these areas into the classroom teaching program. Mrs Shaarn Montgomery will continue to work as the Teacher-Librarian and will be supported by Mrs Jacqui Cleary who has recently returned from a term’s Long Service Leave. Our teachers are a wonderful group of professionals and I am looking forward to another productive and engaging term as we all work to support and inspire your children. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I look forward to our “heat wave” conditions of 15 degrees next week. Sandra Holland Christ Church Grammar School Scholarship

Welcome back to the new term!

We hope you enjoyed the break, and are ready to get back into school life. After having a fantastic holiday, we are back on board and excited to see familiar faces returning – as well as some new faces.

To help get your family back into the swing of things, here are some tips that you might find handy for easing your children into after school care.

Tips for helping children (and parents) feel comfortable in after school care:

1. Give your child as much advance warning as you can that they’ll be coming to After School Care. 2. Pop into the program with your child to meet our Camp Australia team and find out what kind of

activities children can look forward to. 3. Speak with the Camp Australia Coordinator if your child is nervous, and let us know how your child

felt after their first visit. 4. If there is something in particular your child would like to play when they are in our care, encourage

them to let us know.

Child Information Sheets and Photo Consent Forms:

As a part of ‘house keeping ‘ for the beginning of term, we need to make sure that we have the correct details on your child’s information sheet. Can you please see me as soon as possible, so I can make sure that I have the correct details for your child?

Also, if parents could please fill out a photo consent form so that we will be able to take photos of your child engaged in the program and to share in our reflection journal.

Parents - please don’t forget that you need to inform us when your child will be attending aftercare. This is very important for the happy and safe running of the program. You can do this anytime by logging onto our website (www.campaustralia.com.au) or you can catch me on the mobile 0423 795 219

We hope that you all have a great week.
