• Based on the twelfth-century folktale of Wu Song, a celebrated hero who once saved a village by vanquishing a man-eating tiger.

• Reinterprets the folktale as a tragedy for tigers, instead of as the celebration of a heroic feat.

• Using ferocious animals as emblems of human nature, alternately alluding to violence, self-preservation, heroism, and bravery.
