More adult volunteers are needed to keep the Mount Iron walking school bus operating. Last year, student numbers were growing but this year the ‘bus’ has had to be put on hold until at least two more volunteers are found to help supervise the Wanaka Primary and Holy Family pupils as they walk to school.

“The kids love to walk, it’s a great chance to make friends and see what’s happening in their neighbourhood. They also learn a lot about road safety,” said Kath Wilson, the walking school bus coordinator.

Kirsty Barr, school travel plan coordinator for Queenstown Lakes District Council said she’s working with the school and other community groups to see if volunteers will come forward so the kids can continue to enjoy taking the ‘bus’.

“It takes about half an hour, and because it’s a shared roster, helpers would only be walking once a week. However people are time poor, especially parents and that’s one reason we wanted to involve the wider community”.

For more information contact Kirsty Barr on 443 8609.

Grounds Care Central Ltd AVAILABLE

7 DAYS A WEEK.

- Lots of lawnmowing

work wanted.

Crime LineBy Constable Bruce Mclean.

Well this week sure has kept us busy with having still more appearances of the disturbed naked man on our tracks, numerous thefts especially from vehicles at the recreational car parks and domestics. What is going on?

We still need someone to call 111 ASAP if they see our male exposing himself so we can catch him. You guys and girls are our eyes and ears and we need your help.

We also need your help to locate whoever’s stealing from vehicles. This person will look suspicious and will stand out. Leave no valuables in your vehicle. Look for stolen property being dumped also.

We have had an increase in the number of drink drivers processed recently and it seems people are just willing to risk it and drive the few kilometres home for convenience sake. Help your friend stay safe and out of his car!

A male approached a female school student on Lismore Park on Monday and he asked to take photographs of her.

I dealt with a car crash on Saturday morning where a car handbrake was not applied and after a while it careered across the highway and in front of a passing vehicle. Good driving by the other driver limited the damage in this case.

A male was arrested after making a fool of himself at a local bar and then again in front of police. Life’s too short to make it harder for yourself!

A child’s scooter was stolen from the lawn of an address in Poppy Lane Albert Town. It’s a black and copper coloured Milazo. I hope someone can return his Christmas present.

We also dealt with a number of domestic incidents in town and out of town. It’s never good when a couple is having relationship problems but people need to be sensible and not cause any further damage to each other.

How about we all enjoy the weather and work together to keep this paradise and not allow crime to taint our lovely town. Stay frosty Wanaka.

QUITO, ECUADOR enjoys a spectacular natural setting in a long narrow valley high in the Andes. It was a major Inca city and was almost totally destroyed by the Incas themselves in an effort to halt the Spanish Invasion. It halted the invasion only briefl y and the Spaniards founded San Franciso de Quito on the ruins in 1534. The well preserved Spanish buildings give the old city character - now a World Heritage UNESCO centre - and a new modern high rise quarter has grown around it.LOVELY 4 BEDROOM FAMILY HOME available.
