Anche in questo numero cercheremo di raccontarvi un pò d’Europa con la pubblicazione di articoli provenienti direttamente dalle altre scuole di fioristi presenti sul territorio internazionale e presentan-dovene una.Il tema scelto per questo numero è l’inverno, spazieremo dalle suggestioni dell’inverno Norvegese alla manifestazione che l’Ateneo si è proposta di promuovere nel nostro territorio in questo periodo: “The last days of the Middle Ages”. Un workshop e una competizione, organizzati con la collaborazione della Giostra Cavalleresca di Sulmona, che ha visto la partecipazione di diverse scuole Europee; con-solidando con queste ultime un rapporto di scambi lavorativi e formativi già avviato nel passato e ora riconosciuto tramite la certificazione “EUROPASS” riconosciuta dalla Comunità Europea nell’ambito dei progetti: ATIC e FLORSIC che la nostra scuola sta curando. Un invito quindi a tutti, fioristi e non a aprtecipare alle nostre numerose attività.

Also in this issue we will tell you a little about Europe through the publication of articles which come directly from other floral schools within our area and also internationally. The theme chosen for this is-sue is “winter”. The content ranges from Norwegian winter to the event that European Athenaeum of Floral Art most recently hosted: “The Last Days of the Middle Ages” which was a workshop and compe-tition that was organized in collaboration with “Giostra Cavalleresca of Sulmona”. Florists from different European schools participated in this event by using their past acquired floral skills which are presently accredited through the “Europass” certification and recognized by the EU within the projects: ATIC and FLORSIC which our school is involved with. Therefore, we would like to invite all florists, and non, to participate in our many activities.

L’inverno in Norvegia è buio, fred-do e lungo. Può essere difficile far fronte a quest’ultimo, in molti modi. Ma l’inverno porta anche molto di-vertimento per la nostra vita, con tutte le opportunità che esso of-fre, insieme a tanta bellezza della natura. Con il ghiaccio e la neve,gli sbrilluccichii e i riflessi del sole sul tappeto bianco che copre il pae-saggio, e gli strani e magici alberi che lottano contro il pesante carico di neve, che li ha costretti a chinarsi a terra, trasformandoli in un Troll . Qui a Vea siamo fortunati ad ave-re l’inverno di questa meravigliosa terra proprio fuori la porta. Osser-vate alcune delle immagini da Vea in inverno.

The winter in Norway is dark, cold and long. It can be hard to cope with it in many ways. But winter-time brings also a lot of fun to our life, with all the opportunities it brings, together with a lot of be-auty in nature. With the ice and snow, the glitter and reflections from the sun to the white carpet covering the landscape, and the magical and strange threes that struggles against the heavy load of snow, forcing them to bend down to the ground, transforming it to a troll. Here at Vea we are lucky to have the winter wonderland just right outside the door. See some of the images from Vea in the winter-time.

Vinteren i Norge er mørk, kald og lang. Den kan være vanskelig å håndtere på mange måter. Men vinteren bringer også med seg gle-de til våre liv, med det vakre i na-turen og alle nye muligheter som vinteren bringer med seg. Isen og snøen, solen som glitrer og reflekte-res i det hvite teppet som dekker landskapet rundt oss. De magiske og rare trærne som kjemper mot den tunge børen av snø, som tvin-ger dem ned til bakken, som om-skaper dem til troll eller monstere. Her på Vea – Statens fagskole for gartnere og blomsterdekoratører (www.vea-fs.no) er vi så heldige å ha det vakre vinterlandskapet rett utenfor døra. Ta en titt på noen av inntrykkene som møter oss her på Vea.

Usiamo l’inverno come ispirazione per i nostri lavori

Come per un fiorista, è naturale utilizzare le diverse stagioni come fonte d’ispirazione, i nostri studen-ti a Vea ricreano le impressioni del paesaggio invernale con fiori e ma-teriali, - per esempio, - dando l’im-pressione di freddo, della bellezza e della magia invernale.Tre dei nostri studenti del nostro corso di alto livello diBotanic e Flo-ral Design, hanno usato l’inverno come ispirazione per i loro lavori. I risultati hanno riportato le sensa-zioni invernali, ma con un anelito per la primavera.

As a florist it is natural to use the different seasons as inspiration. At Vea, our students recreate impres-sions from the winter landscape by using flowers and remedies, - tel-ling a story, - giving an impression of coldness, winter beauty and ma-gic. Three of our students from our high level course in Floristry, Bota-nical Design, used the winter as in-spiration for their work. The results had a sense of winter, but with a longing for the springtime.

Som blomsterdekoratør er det na-turlig å bruke de ulike sesongene som inspirasjon. På Vea gjenskaper våre studenter inntrykk fra vinter-landskapet utenfor ved å bruke blomster og tilbehør. De forsøker å fortelle en historie om kulde og skjønnhet med vinterens magi og uttrykk.

Våre studenter på fagskolekurset Botanisk Design brukte vinteren som inspirasjon for sitt arbeid. Ar-beidene fikk et vinterlig uttrykk, blandet med en lengsel mot vår.

Gli studenti hanno utilizzato con i fiori del ghiaccio reale, congelado i materiali nell’ acqua. Hanno an-che utilizzato della colla a caldo per creare effetti di ghiaccio nelle loro composizioni floreali. Nella pagina si può osservare come Randi Bren-na, Elisabeth Larsen e Siri Grenne hanno ricreato la bellezza dei fiori in inverno.

The students used real ice together with flowers, freezing down mate-rials in water. They also used glue from a glue-gun to make icy effects in their flower arrangements. See how Randi Brenna, Elisabeth Lar-sen and Siri Grenne recreated the beauty of winter in flower arrange-ments.

Våre studenter brukte ordentlig is sammen med blomster, ved å fry-se ned materialer i vann. De brukte også lim fra limpistol for å gjenska-pe is-effekter i blomsterarbeidene sine. Se hvordan Randi Brenna, Elisabeth Larsen og Siri Grenne gjenskapte den vakre vinteren i sine blomsterarbeider.

Workshop and competiton

In the end of january teams from schools in Slo-vakia, Italy and Norway gathered in Sulmona to have a workshop and a competition as a prepa-ration to the big event Griostra Cavalleresa di Sul-mona with will take place in the end of july 2009.

We were going to study the history of the midde-lage in Sulmona and work practical with the other students and teachers from the other countries.We started on Friday the 23:01:09 with informa-tion about Sulmona’s middleage history of archi-tecture and fashion, and also a bit of the renecan-se art. We also went for a walk in Old Sulmona learning about the history of the different zones in Sulmona.

Saturday 24:01:09 WorkshopThe teams cooporeted to make a big flowerar-rangment in front of the church. It was interesting to work with all of the different countries and le-arn from eachother. We made two big vases and a lot of balls in different sizes designed by Siw, the tacher from Vea- Norway.

Alla fine di gennaio le squadre delle scuole di Slo-vacchia, Italia e Norvegia, si sono riunite a Sulmo-na per partecipare ad un workshop e ad un con-corso di preparazione al grande evento Griostra Cavalleresa di Sulmona che si svolgerà alla fine di luglio 2009.

Ci siamo preparate studiando la storia del medio-evo a Sulmona e lavorando con gli altri studenti e insegnanti di altri paesi. Abbiamo iniziato vener-dì 23/01/09 acquisendo informazioni sul medio-evo a Sulmona, sulla storia dell’architettura e del-la moda, e anche un pò sull’arte Rinascimentale. Siamo anche andati a fare una passeggiata nella vecchia Sulmona per conoscere la storia dei diver-si quartieri.

Sabato 24/01/2009 WorkshopLe squadre hanno lavorato insieme per creare una grande composizione floreale davanti alla chiesa della SS. Annunziata. E’ stato interessan-te lavorare con persone di altri paesi e imparare l’uno dall’altro. Abbiamo creato due grandi vasi e

Sunday 25/01/09 CompetitionThis was a teamcompetition were two students from each participant schools cooporated. The first test was to realize floral jewels and acces-sories inspired by the middle age and the things we had learned from the workshop days.We saw alot of different solutions but all with the element from the Middel Age.

The second test named Ladies flowers: was to re-alize a bouquet or floral sheaf inspired to histori-cal celebrations of Sulmona Chivarly Tournament. This test also had a lot of different expressions, won exseptionally by Italys team (school and na-mes), who showed an inovating bouqet combi-ned with exceptional composition and technice. The Italian team was also the winner of the who-le competiton. All absolutly see the advantage of working togheter with different nations to get in-spiration and learn from eachother. All together we had a really nice and intresting ex-perience and learned a lot.

tante sfere di differenti misure disegnate da Siw, l’insegante della scuola norvegese, Vea.Domenica 25/01/2009 CompetizioneQuesta è stata una gara a squadre dove due stu-denti di ogni scuola partecipante collaboravano insieme. Il primo test è stato quello di realizzare gioielli floreali ed accessori ispirati al medioevo e alle informazioni acquisite dai giorni di workshop. La seconda prova chiamata “Ladies flowers”: con-sisteva nel realizzare un bouquet o un fascio flo-reale ispirato alla celebrazione storica del torneo cavalleresco di Sulmona. Questa prova è stata svi-luppata attraverso diverse modalitàè esplicative, ed è stata vinta dalla squadra italiana: l’European Athenaeum of Floral Art, con Francesco Maino e Assunta Bottacin; che hanno realizzato un inno-vativo bouquet con tecnica e composizione ecce-zionale. La squadra italiana è stata anche la vinci-trice dell’intera competizione. Tutti assolutamente abbiamo riscontrato dei vantaggi nel lavoro di gruppo con le diverse nazioni per ottenere l’ispi-razione e imparare da loro. Tutti insieme abbiamo avuto davvero un bella e interessante esperienza e abbiamo imparato mol-to.

It takes an average of twenty years to develop and launch a new tulip. Three years ago it was the turn of the bicoloured ‘Armani’ to undergo a successful launch.As its fashion designer namesake would suggest, ‘Armani’ stands for elegant simplicity. Like most tu-lips it is single flowered. However, its colours are very striking without being obtrusive. The tulip is deep red in colour, like an elegant wine, turning to white at the margins. There is a subtle paler red division between the two colours.‘Armani’ is a stranger to false modesty, clearly showing its colours even at the bud stage, which is an advantage for display in the shop. The attrac-tive dark green foliage underlines the unusual co-lour of the flowers. Other advantages include its sturdy stems and above average vase life, the tulip will look good in the vase for at least a week. Three years ago Tulipa ‘Armani’ (vbn product code 27202) took its first sashay down the catwalk of international floriculture, i.e. the Dutch flower auc-tions and since that time sales have risen steadily. In 2006 almost 300,000 were sold and in 2007 the number rose to almost 400,000 stems. 2008 saw sales of some 550,000 stems. Definitely a suc-cessful market launch! Tulipa ‘Armani’ is available from the Dutch auctions from November to the end of April.

Ci vuole, in media, circa venti anni per sviluppare e lanciare una nuova qualità di tulipano. Tre anni fa è stato sottoposto ad un lancio, rilevatosi di suc-cesso, del bicolore ‘Armani’.Come il suo omonimo, lo stilista ‘Armani’: questo nome diventa sinonimo di elegante semplicità. Come la maggior parte dei tulipani fiorisce come unico fiore. Tuttavia, i suoi colori sono molto sug-gestivi, senza essere invadenti. Il tulipano presenta al centro un colore rosso profondo come un vino elegante, mentre ai margini sfuma verso le tonali-tà del bianco attraversando una sottile linea ros-so pallido che divide i due colori. Armani è “uno straniero con falsa modestia”, che mostra con chiarezza i suoi colori, anche quando è in boccio e rappresenta un motivo di vantaggio per render-lo visibile nel negozio. L’attraente fogliame verde scuro sottolinea l’insolito colore dei fiori. Altri van-taggi comprendono la robustezza dei gambi e la resistenza in vaso sopra la media: il tulipano starà bene in vaso per almeno una settimana. Tre anni fa Tulipa ‘Armani’ (vbn codice del prodotto 27202) è stata presentata per la prima volta sulla passe-rella internazionale di floricoltura, vale a dire nelle aste floreali olandesi e da quel momento le ven-dite sono aumentate costantemente. Nel 2006 sono stati venduti quasi 300.000 e nel 2007 il nu-mero è salito a quasi 400.000 steli. Il 2008 ha visto le vendite di quasi 550.000 steli. Sicuramente un buon lancio sul mercato! Tulipa ‘Armani’ è dispo-nibile nelle aste olandesi da novembre alla fine di aprile.

Sansevieria cylindrica ‘Skyline’

Sansevieria cylindrica Skyline

Its striking appearance makes Sansevieria cylindri-ca ‘Skyline’ stand out from the norm! This excep-tionally trendy plant is all set to entice interest from a wide audience especially as its ornamental value makes it perfect for the modern home.Sansevieria cylindrica ‘Skyline’ got its name as the result of a competition in a major Dutch na-tional newspaper. Many of its grey-green leaves are grooved and striped! The long dark, green grooves run the length of leaf and the dark gre-en stripes, horizontally. Each leaf is 3cm thick and arranged as part of a fan shape, pointing straight up. However, at the time there were too few of these plants to create a real breakthrough with the general public. Sansevieria cylindrica ‘Skyline’ is a low maintenance plant. It only needs watering once every three weeks and thrives at room tem-perature and doesn’t mind the sun either. Howe-ver, it dislikes too much water and cold temperatu-res. Sansevieria cylindrica ‘Skyline’ can flower. The plant was available in 2006 in pot sizes 13, 15 and 24 cm and in heights of 30, 60/70 and 70/90 cm respectively. The plant is supplied with a stick pin with information about it.

Il suo sorprendente aspetto rende la Sansevie-ria cylindrica ‘Skyline’ fuori dalla norma! Questa pianta eccezionalmente trendy ha un portamen-to tale da suscitare interesse da parte di un vasto pubblico in particolare per quanto riguarda il suo valore ornamentale che lo rende perfetto per la casa moderna. La Sansevieria cylindrica ‘Skyline’ prende il suo nome dal risultato di un concorso indetto in un grande quotidiano nazionale olan-dese. Molte delle sue foglie grigio-verde sono sca-nalate a strisce! Le lunghe scure, verdi scanalature attraversano la lunghezza della foglia mentre il verde scuro le attraversa a righe orizzontali. Ogni foglia ha uno spessore di 3 centimetri e ha un por-tamento verticale ed assume la forma di un ven-taglio. Tuttavia, al momento ce ne sono troppo poche di queste piante per poter creare un reale passo avanti con un pubblico generico. Sansevie-ria cylindrica ‘Skyline’ è una pianta che richiede poche cure. Deve essere annaffiata solo una volta ogni tre settimane e prospera, a temperatura am-biente e non ha bisogno dell’esposizione al sole. Tuttavia, non ama troppa acqua e freddo. La San-sevieria cylindrica ‘Skyline’ può fiorire. La pianta è disponibile dal 2006 in vasi da 13, 15 e 24 cm e con le rispettive altezze di 30, 60/70 e 70/90 cen-timetri. La pianta viene fornita con un bastoncino con le relative informazioni.
