Needless to say, reaction to my prior double-Blast e-mail has accumulated, the less emotional itemsare shared here. Appended are perceptions of Jim Geraghty and Rush [who psychologically recoveredafter yesterdays shockand stopped perseverating]. The problem is that when you cut funding for any department, you dont know what thedept. heads will choose to not finance in their departments.

For example, funding was cut for the EPA. That means there is less funding for ALL EPAregs, not just the ones that we consider to be bad or onerous.

Whenever something goes wrong, they will tell us Its because the GOP cut our

funding.

The regs have to be abolished at the same time that funding is cut, or you create adangerous enforcement situation.

This triggered byplay between Lois and Guzzardi:

In response, Guzzardi queried [So the alternative is to fund ALL of EPA or none? Is thatRep. Fitzpatrick's explanation?] and posited [NDAA moves very few votes and, as welearned in the Primary challenge in 2012, not enough; to vote against NDAA is to vote

against ALL defense spending. Most of us think that shutting down the military is not a

good idea.]

In reply, Lois wrote [Bob that is not true. Thats like saying if they didnt vote for

Omnibus it was a vote to shut down the government. They cant be extorted into votingfor everything the administration wants all the time] and added [That is not what I said.]

Guzzardi then meshed the two threads thusly: You said cutting funding won't

eliminate a program unless it is targeted. And targeting defunding seems, according toyour email, impossible. The same targeting logic applies to NDAA ...all or nothing. Or doyou think Rs should have voted for CRomnibus? Rep. Perry voted NAY to CRomnibusand your Rep. voted YEA. and you do not seem to be willing to call Bill Shuster out forvoting YEA to funding amnesty and Obamacare and EPA enforcement.

This rhetorical dispute died-out after I rectified matters by meshing their core-arguments:

conflated two distinct initiatives.

Both need to be passed, and both were deeply flawed; Cruz doesnt like the land-grab inthe NDAA and would want to amend, just as we have not wanted the CRomnibus passedbecause inter aliait funds the Executive Order.

The proper posturing regardless of rhetoric is to vote for what you believe[specifying what cost-centers should be funded WITHIN departments and which must be

starved EXPLICITLY]; in the words of George Ross Fisher, III, MD [a medical politicsmentor], the legislative goal must always be to avoid the adoption of bad policy.

Thus, opposing until a problem is fixed is desirable, along with the ability [for a change]to withstand a media onslaught regarding an allegation of shutdown; just as one must

alter the nomenclature regarding the Middle East [Jerusalem has suburbs notsettlements], so too must the alternative be portrayed as a governmental slowdown

of perhaps 14% of its baseline functioning [amplified for effect by BHO, such as when heclosed the WW-II memorial]

In short, both bills should be opposed and then passed properly, followed by a joint-conference committee within Congress, etc.

Also, Fitzs Friend Dave Sommers [who is undoubtedly stressed] wrote a quasi-defense which I thenproceeded to dismember:

I can support actions that strongly enforce the border moving forward. But, rationalpolicies must be adopted to deal with the clear reality of the people already here. I do

not favor deporting them all. Forget the social (family and humanitarian) issues for now- it is not a practical solution. I understand (although I do not fully agree with) the desirenot to fast-track citizenship.

Face reality rather than idealized fantasy; BHO is doing nothing tosecure the border, thereby inviting more Illegals to come.

Perhaps a compromise is making the path from green card to citizenship different /harder. Maybe, there are tweaks in what benefits are permissible under a green card.All of that is different from a stance that favors mass deportation.

Its far too late for compromise, and this postulated pathway is aconjured after-the-fact concern; indeed, one could argue that themasses of green-card holders would become worthwhile citizens [overtime] and, thus, this statute would not be appropriately amended.
