Denbighshire and Flintshire Agricultural Society Ltd GENERAL RULES

1. No Prizes shall be offered from the funds of the Society which have not been sanctioned by the Management Committee, and the Society reserves to itself the power to withhold any Prize or Prizes where the Judges say there is not sufficient

merit. All classes are open to the United Kingdom except where stated.

2. Only the signed the Judges Books are accepted by the Society as evidence that a prize has been awarded.

3. 1st and 2nd Prize Winners only, in appropriate Classes, go forward for their Section Championship and Grand Parade. 1st & 2nd Prize-winners must appear in the Grand Parade.

4. The decision of the Judges in all cases will be final, except where fraud, misrepresentation or breach of the Rules is discovered. In the case of any dispute as to the height of the animal exhibited the current rules of the Joint Measurement Scheme Ltd. Will apply which can be obtained from the Secretary of the Joint Measurement Scheme Ltd., British Equestrian Centre, PO Box 322, Horley, RH6 0WS.

5. In the case of any dispute as to the age of any animal entered as being of a specified age the Steward shall call in the Veterinary Surgeon appointed by the Society for the purpose of whose decision (unless the animal has been accepted for Registration by its Herd, Stud or Flock Book Society) shall be final, and such animal if not eligible for the class in which it is entered, shall be disqualified.

6. The Society, acting through the Management Committee, reserves the right to refuse any entries without assigning a reason for so doing, and to cancel or abandon any class or section at any time prior to or on the day of the Annual Show, if there are fewer than three exhibitors.

7. All stock competing must be the bona-fide property of the Exhibitor and must have been owned and in his possession at least TWO MONTHS previous to the day of the Show, except where otherwise stated. All exhibitors are required to have adequate insurance and public liability cover for their stock.

8. No animal shall have its teats sealed during the Show nor shall the udder be in any way 'faked'. Groups – animals should already have been entered and shown in previous classes.

9. In hand Stallions should be shown by handlers over 16 years on Showday.

10. The Stock exhibited must not be distinguished during judging by any means

which denotes their ownership, but solely by a number Ticket fixed to each Exhibit which will be sent by the Secretary previous to the Show and will correspond with the number in the Catalogue.

11. No Substitution of animals will be allowed after closing date of entries, except where the affiliated society approves the change and in the Jumping Classes as permitted under British Show jumping Rule 73.9.

Marks will be awarded for conformation, walk, trot and overall manners. All horses must exceed 148 cms when fully grown

SIDE SADDLE SECTION Judge: JANET SENIOR. Judged in the Clwyd Ring to Follow the Ridden Hunters

Entry fees: Members £7.00 : Non Members £12.00 - entries close 1st July 2019

Hats to current British Safety Standards or above must be worn at all times.

Class 014 The Side Saddle Association CONCOURS d’ELEGANCE, The sole criterion for this class is the elegance of the picture presented by horse and rider. Attention may be paid to the rider’s personal appearance, but detailed inspection of rider or tack is not required. Fancy dress or period costume is not permitted. Competitors are required to walk, trot and canter. No individual show is required, but the Judge may ask groups of 3 or 4 riders to give short displays. A Special rosette will be awarded to the highest placed Adult Member and the highest placed Junior Member of the SSA carrying their current Championship Points Cards. Competitors must wear a hat to current

Safety Standard or above.

Class 016 Side Saddle Riding Club Horse/Pony Open Class, Open to horses and ponies 4 years old or over. Riders will be required to give a short show including a small jump, maximum 61cm (2’). The height may be adjusted during the course of the class at the Judge’s discretion. The class shall be judged on the show, the manners of horse/pony and its suitability for the rider. Conformation will not be considered. A Special rosette will be awarded to the highest placed Adult and Junior Members of the SSA carrying their current Championship Points Cards. Competitors must wear a hat to current Safety Standard or above.

Class 017 BSHA LADIES SHOW HORSE Open to SSA Adult Members and Non-members, aged 18 and over on January 1st of the current year, riding side saddle, on horses exceeding 148cm (14.2hh). To be judged 25% conformation and action, 25% manners & way of going, 25% rider, and 25% turnout of horse & rider, by a SHBGB, BSHA, BSPS, P(UK) or SSA Panel Judge. Judges may request a short show, but will not ride exhibits; horses will not be stripped. Traditional habits must be worn. Fancy Dress and Period Costumes NOT permitted. Competitors must wear a hat to current Safety Standard or above. Judges are requested to use the mark sheet provided. The highest placed horse/rider combination qualifies for the Final to be held at the National Side Saddle Show. In the event of previous qualification, this may be passed down to fourth place. Special rosettes are offered by Mrs T Mitchell & Mr L Mitchell to the winner and if the winner has already qualified, a second rosette is awarded with the Qualification Card. Qualifying combinations are required to become Full Members of the SSA 21 days prior to the National Side Saddle Show or as soon as possible if qualified after that date to be eligible to compete at the Final. Combinations qualifying between one National Side Saddle Show and the next may carry forward the

qualification, for that year only.The Broadband & Phones Ladies Show Horse - Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 148cms, suitable to carry a side saddle, to be ridden by a lady. Riders must be 15 years of age or older. Competitors must be a Member of the BSHA or the SSA, or purchase a Day Ticket from the BSHA office. This is a qualifier for The Broadband & Phones Ladies Show Horse Championship, with a First Prize of £200, to be held at the BSHA National Championships 2019; the four highest placed to qualify. If the BSHA Championship Show entries have closed at the time of qualification, competitors will not be charged a late entry fee for the Championship.

RIDING HORSES, & HACKS

Judge: Mr Alan Mickleburgh, Macclesfield To be judged in ring 2 not before 11.30pm

RIDING HORSE SECTION

Classes 021 – 027 Held under the rules of the British Show Horse Association. Owners, Riders & Horses must be registered or have temporary membership with a Day Ticket.

Horses registered with the Association must be Owned, Exhibited and Ridden by current BSHA Members. Riders must be 15 years of age or older. Registration

numbers must be quoted on entry form. DAY TICKETS

Non-Members may purchase up to a maximum of 2 Day Tickets per Exhibitor, per Horse, per Rider, per season. A Day Ticket will allow entry into Amateur, Home

Produced, In-Hand, Novice, Working, Young Rider and Open Affiliated classes only, but will NOT allow entry into RIHS or HOYS qualifying classes.

Horses registered on a Day Ticket do not require a JMB height certificate. Competitors can apply for a Day Ticket by downloading an application form, or apply online on the

BSHA website. Horses competing in the Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain classes at their Affiliated Shows cannot compete in Hack, Cobs and Riding Horse classes at the same show, on the same day and vice versa. This does not apply to SHB (GB)

Ridden Sport Horse classes. The three highest placed prize winners in each Open Affiliated class will qualify to

compete in the BSHA Classic Supreme classes at the National Championship Show September 2019.

The BSHA offer a Novice, Young Rider and Amateur rosette in each Open class and a Champion rosette for each section (with the exception of Open Working Show Horse,

Ladies Show Horse & HOYS Hunter classes). The Association will also award an Amateur Home Produced rosette in all Affiliated Open Cob (Light & Heavyweights only) classes. These rosettes have been kindly

sponsored by TSG, Mr L Turley. The awards will go down the line; there is no limit on how many of these rosettes can be claimed in a year.

RETRAINING OF RACEHORSES

Judge: PETER HODGKINSON MERSEYSIDE . To be Judged in ring 2 at 8am Entry fees: Members £7.00 : Non Members £12.00 – entries close 1st July 2019

Amateur definition: An amateur is a person who for the purpose of RoR classes does not/has not during the current season or previous season: Engage (d) in breeding, livery, buying or selling, dealing or hiring horses (for the show ring) in a commercial capacity. Horses must not have been stabled at or reside in a Professional Producer's/Trainer's yard (in the current season or previous season). Riders must not have ridden any animals produced by a Professional/Trainer in the current or previous season. Horses and riders must not have received any help from a Professional Producer/Trainer at a SHOW in the current or previous season. Horses must not have been ridden at a show by a rider who has ridden for a Professional/Producer Trainer in the current or previous season. Any breaches of this ruling will be taken seriously and will result in disqualification from future classes.

Class 029 RoR AMATEUR Ridden Show Series Qualifier 2019 Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 4yrs and over, mares and geldings, owned, produced and ridden by an Amateur. Class will be judged under ‘riding horse’ format without ‘type’ being taken into consideration. This is a qualifying show for the Ridden Arabian Star Series (RASS).

The highest two previously unqualified horses from within the first four in each RASS class will qualify to enter the Championship class to be held at the UKIAHS show Addington Manor

equestrian centre Saturday of the August bank holiday weekend.

Classes are open to ridden Pure Bred Arabians over 4 years of age which are registered in the correct Arab Horse Society stud book.

The highest placed previously unqualified horses within the top four placings with a current 2019 qualification will qualify for the finals.

No qualification for the Series will be passed down in the event of a qualified exhibit withdrawing for any reason.

Each horse wishing to qualify entering the class must have a RASS card which must be signed by the judge at the time of qualification in the ring.

Cards may not be brought into the ring after the commencement of the class.

This competition is open to stallions, mares and geldings, four years old and over, to be registered in, and complying with the showing requirements of, the main body of their respective stud books. Riders and Owners must be members of their respective Breed Society, NPS, Ponies (UK), The Showing Register or BSPS. Ponies must not exceed the height limits as stipulated by the relevant Breed Societies. Riders of stallions must have obtained their 12th Birthday (small breeds) or 14th birthday (large breeds) before 1st January in the current year. These classes will be run in accordance with the general rules as set out in the Horse of the Year Show rulebook, a copy of which can be downloaded from www.hoys.co.uk. This is a Horse of the Year Show Qualifier, all data given upon entry of this class is provided to Grandstand Media Limited and stored on the Grandstand Entries System. All Animals competing in Mountain and Moorland WHP classes will be required to be in possession of a current/valid JMB height certificate within 28 days of the notification of qualification from HOYS or by the closing date of HOYS entries, whichever is sooner. A valid membership card must be in the rider’s/handler’s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the owner of the Champion pony is not a member, or the owner’s membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony, provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships. Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the Silver Medal Rosette Championship to

be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show in August 2020

These classes are qualifying classes for National Pony Society /Baileys Horse Feeds Ridden Mountain & Moorland Pony of the Year Championship, N.E.C., Birmingham, 2rd - 6th October 2019. This competition is open to stallions, mares and geldings, four years old and over, to be registered in and complying with the showing requirements of the main of their respective stud books. Partbreds and mares with a living foal born during the current season are not eligible to compete. Riders can be of any age with the exception of those riding stallions must have attained their 12th birthday (small breeds) or 14th birthday (large breeds) before 1st January in the current year. Correct riding attire must be worn, spurs are not allowed and whips must not exceed 30”. Ponies must not exceed the height limits as stipulated by the relevant breed societies. All Animals competing in Mountain and Moorland Ridden classes will be required to be in possession of a current/valid JMB height certificate within 28 days of the notification of qualification from HOYS or by the closing date of HOYS entries, whichever is sooner. Qualifiers for the 2019 OSBORNE REFRIGERATORS BDS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, the VICTORIA FOOD COMPANY OPEN DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIP 2019 and the BDS WELSH DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019 Osborne Refrigerators Qualifiers to be awarded to members of the BDS in accordance with rules of the Osborne Refrigerators Championships 2019 down to 6th Place. Members must produce their current BDS membership card to the Judge in the Ring and on no circumstances will the qualifier be awarded without the membership card being produced. No qualifier will be awarded to non BDS members unless stated a - Single hackney-type - over 13.2hh - Class 177 b -Single hackney-type - 13.2hh & under - Class 176 f - Single purebred Registered Welsh Cob - Section D - Class 177 g -Single purebred Registered Welsh Ponies - Sections A, B & C - Class 176 i -Pairs & Tandems - Open. already qualified then the reserve champion to qualify. If the reserve has also qualified, the rosette to be awarded back to the Champion. Once qualified, the Horse, Whip and vehicle may not be changed

BDS Wales Qualifiers

The BDS Wales National Private Driving Championships qualifier is open to any BDS member driving a traditional or traditional type turnout and will be allocated to the winner of the Private Driving class or Private Driving Championship class if the show runs more than one Private Driving class. The Championships will be held at the BDS Wales Show in August 2020, details of which will, in due course, be found at www.bdswales.org.uk.

The BDS Wales National Exercise Vehicle Championships qualifier is open to any BDS member driving an Exercise Vehicle turnout and will be allocated to the winner of the Exercise Vehicle class if there is no overall Exercise Vehicle Championship at the show. The Championships will be held at the BDS Wales Show in August 2020. PLEASE SEE DETAILS ON THE BDS WALES WEBSITE.

Class 175 Concours D’ELEGANCE: The winner will be the turnout which in the opinion of the Judge presents the most elegant effect. Judged from a distance and not close inspection

Class 176 PRIVATE DRIVING CLASS FOR 138CMS & UNDER. Ponies 138CMS & under, 4 years old & over. Open to be single, pair or tandem. To be driven to a traditional type vehicle, traditional profile and identifiable type to resemble the design of a carriage built prior to the First World War. The vehicle may be made from modern materials but must have traditional style springing and carriage lamps. Pneumatic tyre vehicles, trade turnouts and show wagons are not eligible. Each Junior whip must be accompanied in the vehicle by a competent adult and be under 18 years old on show day. This will be judged on the ability of the junior whip. Class 178 Junior Driving: must have attained their 10th birthday, and be under 18 years old on show day. Each Junior whip must be accompanied in the vehicle by a competent adult. This will be judged on the ability of the junior whip. Pneumatic tyres specifically designed for carriages i.e. not car tyres are allowed. Lamps need not be carried. Class 180 Disabled Drivers and Newcomers Pleasure Driving Class Pleasure Driving Classes are for newcomers to showing who have been driving for less than 2 years and not intended for those who show regularly or are whips showing in the Private Driving Classes. Competitors are asked to respect this and entries will not be accepted from those who enter our Private Driving Class. Class to be judged 15% on vehicle suitability, fit and cleanliness, 15% harness suitability, fit and cleanliness, 70% on driver and groom, horse/pony, way of going and suitability as a family pleasure animal. Competitors may be given a brief series of tasks i.e. driving through cones. Pneumatic tyres specifically designed for carriage i.e. not car tyres are allowed. Lamps need not be carried
