Dozer Control Lever. A low-effortelectronic dozer control handle givesthe operator control of all dozer functionswith one hand. Fore/aft movement ofthe lever lowers and raises the blade.Left/right movement directionally tiltsthe blade.

When equipped with the optional DualTilt feature, the thumb lever at the topof the handle controls blade pitch foreand aft. The trigger switch togglesbetween single and dual tilt.

The left and right side thumb buttonsprovide control over the semi-automatedblade pitch functions that the Dual Tiltattachment provides. Blade pitch forload, carry and spread segments canbe preset on Advisor and controlled bythe buttons. The left side button cyclesbetween the pitch settings for eachsegment of the push cycle. The rightside button cancels out of the pitchfunctions without losing the preset pitchangles. This Auto Blade Assist (ABA)feature is turned on and off using aswitch on the right side console.

The two buttons also provide controlover the AccuGrade™ blade controlattachment when the machine isso equipped. The buttons turn onAccuGrade, provide manual incrementand decrement control, and turn offAccuGrade.

Page 9: Tractor d9 Cat c18 Acert

Torque Converter. A high efficiencytorque converter with fixed statorprovides high torque multiplicationwhile shielding the drive train fromsudden torque shocks and vibration.

Additional Feedback. A minor, butimportant, by-product of the torqueconverter is its tendency to increaseengine lug all the way to converterstall. This gives the operator additionalfeedback concerning tractor speedand drawbar pull.

Differential Steering System. A planetarydifferential turns the machine by speedingup one track and slowing the other, while maintaining full power to both.Differential steering system consists of:

• Three planetary gear sets:

• Two planetary gear sets (steeringand drive) make up the “dualdifferential,” which performs thetraditional drive function (forwardor reverse). Unlike competitivemachines, the differential alsoperforms a steering function withinput from the steering motor.

• A third planetary gear set, the“equalizing planetary,” residesinside the transmission case. It isconnected to the dual differential, which provides a maximum speeddifference between the right andleft final drives during a turn.

• A dedicated variable-displacementhydraulic pump.

• A bi-directional, fixed-displacementsteering motor.

• Heavy-duty steering drive gears.

Operation. When moving straightahead, power flows through thetransmission pinion and bevel gear intothe dual differential, transmitting equal, uninterrupted power to each final drive. While turning, power is shifted tothe outboard track speeding it up.The inboard track slows down toaccommodate a tighter turning radius.Forward ground speed remains thesame throughout the turn.

Planetary Power Shift Transmission.Three speeds forward and three speedsreverse, utilizing large diameter, highcapacity, oil-cooled clutches.

• Modulation system permits fastspeed and direction changes.

• Modular transmission and differentialslide into rear case for servicingease, even with ripper installed.

• Oil-to-water cooler for maximumcooling capacity.

• Forced oil flow lubricates and coolsclutch packs to provide maximumclutch life.

Drawbar Pull vs. Speed. As loads onthe tractor increase, the D9T offersunmatched lugging capability andsmooth shifting as the need occursto change gears under varying loads. The 3-speed forward, 3-speed reversetransmission, backed by differentialsteering, offers excellent runout speedsand accurate steering capabilityunder load.

Elevated Final Drives. Isolated fromground and equipment induced impactloads for extended power train life.

• Crown-shaved drive gears providesmooth, quiet, low maintenanceoperation.

• Splash lubrication and Duo-Cone®

Seals extend service life.
