Trondheim: Trondheim is one of the most active cities of culture in Norway, and the ideal starting point for your visit to Trøndelag. The large number of concerts, festivals and other creative cultural events, together with museums, exciting boutiques and cafés, make it diffi cult to go idle in Trondheim.
A number of modern visitors’ centres likeRockheim, the national visitor centre for pop and rock, and the Science Centre (Vitensenteret) where science is presented in a fun way, offer a wealth of wonderful experiences.
The River Nidelven meanders its way through thecity centre, past the mighty Nidaros Cathedral where Olav the Holy is buried, through the old and charming part of the city known as Bakklandet, and along the extensive, colourful terraces of quayside buildings. A large part of the city centre consists of wooden buildings, narrow passageways and cobbled streets that create an intimate atmosphere.
Trondheim was the country’s fi rst capital city, and on a walk around town you will fi nd many sights of historical interest.
TrøndelagTrøndelag is famous for many things, but our countryside and all of the wonderful cultural events that we organize are probably what we are most proud of.
Fantastic countryside and coastlineSeven national parks, a beautiful coastline and many other great outdoor areas, play a central role in life in Trøndelag. Skiers, hikers, hunters and anglers all feel a twinge of excitement in their bodies as the season approaches, and they all have plenty of options to choose from.
Diverse cultural activitiesThere are many things you can say about the people of Trøndelag, but their urge to create and express themselves has always one of their characteristics. That is something that we and all of our guests benefi t from, through festivals in a
variety of genres, exhibitions, local drama clubs and major theatres featuring well-known and lesser-known faces.
Historic rootsIt is hard to travel through Trøndelag without stumbling upon places with strong historic roots, many of which are keen to tell their stories. Bat-tlefi elds, old churches and castles, rock carvings and burial mounds all witness the presence of earlier inhabitants, dating back to the Viking era and beyond.
