Trap Awaits University Students!

Marmara Üniversitesi'nin yeni rektörü Prof. Dr. Necla Pur, öncelikle öğrencilerin barınma sorununu çözeceğini belirterek, "Barınaksız öğrenci ya tarikatların ya da kadın satıcılarının eline düşüyor" dedi.

“The student with no housing falls either in the hands of sectarian fraternity groups or of merchants of women,” says the new rector of Marmara University Professor Necla Pur, PhD. She stated that the first thing she will do is to solve the students’ housing problem.

Marmara Üniversitesi'nde üçüncü kez katıldığı rektörlük seçimlerini ilk kez kazanan İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi öğretim üyesi ve Kadın İşgücü İstihdam Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi kurucusu ve Başkanı Prof. Necla Pur projelerini SABAH'a anlattı. En önemli projesinin, yüzde 70'i İstanbul dışından gelen öğrencilerin barınma sorununu çözmek olduğunu söyleyen Pur, ilk aşamada Göztepe Kampusu'ndaki öğrenciler için kiralık ev veya yerleşecekleri aile bulacaklarını anlattı. Pur, barınma sorunu çözülmediği takdirde öğrencilerin ya tarikatların ya da kadın satıcıların eline düşeceği tespitini yaptı. Üniversitenin bin yatak kapasiteli iki yurdu olduğunu anlatan Pur, "Öğrencilerin çoğu dar gelirli Anadolu ailelerinin çocukları. Emekli ya da asgari ücretli babalarının onlara ev tutma şansları olmuyor. O zaman da çocuklar tarikatların kucağına düşüyor. Çünkü onlara sıcacık ve güzel daireler sunuyorlar. Ceplerine harçlıklarını koyuyorlar" dedi.

Professor Necla Pur, Associate Professor and the founder and chairwoman of the Women's Labor Force and Employment Research and Implementation Center, has won the university rectorial elections for the first time after being a candidate three times. She told Sabah about her projects. Pur says that her most important project is to solve the problems of the students, 70 percent of whom come from Istanbul. First, they will find rental apartments or host families for students at the Goztepe Campus. Pur points out that unless the housing issue is solved, students will fall into the hands of sectarian fraternity groups or merchants of women. She notes that the university has two dormitories, each with a 1,000 bed-capacity. “Most students are the children of low-income Anatolian families. Their fathers, who are retired or paid minimum wage, do not have a chance of renting an apartment for them. In these situations, the kids fall into the laps of sectarian fraternity groups because they provide them with warm, nice apartments. They provide them with pocket money,” she continues.

Öğrencilerin sınıfta kalması ya da alttan dersi olması halinde yurttan atıldığını hatırlatan Pur, "Sonra bu çocuklar ev bulmaya çalışıyor. Edirnekapı'nın arka mahallesinde gecekonduda üç-beş arkadaş ev tutuyor. Oradan Göztepe'ye okula geliyor. Ne kadar dayanabilir çocuk bu sefilliğe?" diye sordu. Öğrencileri tarikatların kıskacından kurtarmanın mümkün olduğunu söyleyen Pur, şöyle devam etti: "Tak rozeti, al bayrağı, bir de şiir oku Atatürkçüsün. Ama sen bir yurt yap, çocukların barınma parasını ver o zaman Atatürkçü olursun. Hangi parayla hangi evi tutacak bu çocuklar? 100 milyon bile gelmiyor çoğuna ailelerinden. Atatürkçülük karşı devrimciler nasıl örgütleniyorlarsa, öyle davranıp, bu çocuklara sahip çıkmaktır." Tarikatların her üniversitede olduğu gibi Marmara Üniversitesi'nde de özellikle burs, barınma ve harçlık konusunda çok etkili olduklarını belirten Pur, tarikata girmiş öğrencileri tanımakta zorlanmadıklarını şöyle aktardı: "Kızlardaki değişim çok kolay izleniyor. Çünkü hemen türban takıyorlar. Ama erkeklerdeki değişimi fark etmek daha zor. Mesela kravat takmıyorlar, daha bol pantolon giyiyorlar."

A DISASTER

She recalls the fact that if students fail or if they have to repeat some courses, they are removed from the dormitory. Then these kids try to find housing in a district in the back of Edirnekapı together with a few friends. They commute to school from there. “How long can they take this misery?” Pur asks. Saying that it is possible to free students from the traps of sectarian fraternity circles, she continues: “Put on the badge, grab the flag, and recite a poem; you are an Atatürkist. But, build a dormitory, pay for their accommodations, and you become an Ataturkist. Which house and with what money will these kids be able to rent? Most do not even receive 100 million Turkish liras from their families. Ataturkism is uniting, the way those anti-revolutionists are united, in order to act as guardian for those kids. She states that sectarian fraternity groups are very influential at Marmara University as in every university, especially in regard to scholarship, housing, and pocket money. Pur explains why it is not difficult for them to identify the students who join sectarian fraternity groups: “The changes with girls are very easy to notice because, soon after, they start to wear turbans. But, the changes with boys are more difficult to notice. For instance, they do not wear a tie; they wear looser trousers.

She mentions that the Two-Option Student Housing Project, which provides either host family accommodations or rental houses, will be started in Goztepe this year as a pilot program. Explaining that at first, the

"HUKUKÇU bir öğretim üyesinin başında olacağı Öğrenci Barınma Ofisi kurulacak. Göztepe civarında oturan ve öğrencileri pansiyoner olarak almak isteyen aileler bulunacak. O ailelere çocuk için biz garanti olacağız. Öğrencilerin kefili üniversite olacak. Onların tüm davranışları konusunda bizi muhatap göreceklerini bilirlerse öğrencilerimize ciddi talep olacağını düşünüyoruz. Aile ile giriş çıkış saatleri, içki, eve arkadaş hangi saatlerde getirebilir, mutfağı nasıl kullanabilir tüm bunları kontrata dökeceğiz."

“A Student Housing Office led by a law professor will be established. Families living near Goztepe who are willing to host students will be identified. We will sponsor the kids for the families. The university will be the guarantor for the students. We think if the families know that we will be responsible for their behavior, then there will be a great demand for students. Things such as curfew, drinking, hours they can bring friends, and the use of the kitchen will all be included in the contract.”

Ama biz gideceğiz onlara kefil olacağız. Apartmanın kuralları belirlenecek. Ev sahipleri ya da yönetici bizi karşısında görecek. Çocukla öyle bir sözleşme yapacağız ki kurallara uymazsa disiplin cezası vereceğiz. Aile yanında da tutulan apartmanda da yurdumuzda kalıyor gibi olacak. Böylece onlara çok ucuza evler kiralayabileceğiz. Cumhuriyetin emanet edildiği gençler için bir şeyler yapmak gerek" diyor.

Another leg of the project is the university’s renting of apartments around Göztepe. According to Pur, "Owners rent their apartments to students way above the market value because they are afraid the students will utterly destroy their apartments, but we will go ahead and sponsor them. The rules of the apartment will be determined. Homeowners or apartment managers will see us as the responsible party. We will make such a contract with these kids that if they do not follow the rules, we will take disciplinary action against them. Staying with a host family will be just like staying at our dormitory. This way, we will rent them very inexpensive apartments. We need to do something for the youth who have been entrusted to us by our Republic," she says.
