Logistics is part of supply chain which involves several
business entities such as suppliers, manufacturers,
distributors and retailers. The concept of Halal had
catalyzed advancements in the Halal trades, creating new
business drive within the logistic industry. Halal logistics
industry seems to be new to the society as the halal issue
is typically synonymous with food, pharmaceutical and
cosmetic products.

Halal logistics refers to the process of managing the logistics operations such as fleet management, storage, warehousing, and materials handling according to the principles of Shariah law in ensuring the integrity of the halal products at the point of consumption

“Halal products are often associated with the correct
way of slaughtering, manufacturing and processing
according to sharia. But, the consumers are less
aware of the importance of the halal logistics such
as handling, packaging, management, inventory,
storage, warehousing and transportation of halal
products,” she added.

During the implementation of
transformational project of Low
Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) as air
cargo logistics hub, MITRANS
advocated that Malaysia should take
the opportunity to become a halal
logistics cargo hub. As a result, it
created a huge demand for Halal
Logistic.

MITRANS was established in 1982 and is recognised as the Higher
Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE) in 2014. To support the
Malaysian halal industry, MITRANS has collaborated with government
and private agencies particularly Standards Malaysia and JAKIM to
review the halal logistics standards as well as provide training and
consultancy services to assist companies who would like to apply
halal logistics certification.
Internationally, MITRANS was given the mandate to lead
the Technical Committee 10 on Halal Supply Chain at the
Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries
(SMIIC) based in Istanbul to develop the standards for halal
supply chain for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation
(OIC) countries since January 2016. Currently MITRANS is
actively involves in conducting halal supply chain training
for industries in the UK, Belgium and Hong Kong.Malaysia Institute of Transport
