Mino-Kenudson, M.D.(’18) Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston 1 病理診断医は常に新しい知識、優れた技術を求めて修行しなくてはいけない。病 理医人生は修行の連続なのです。外科病理学の修行場の一つとして、米国・カナダ 病理学会 The United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology(通称 USCAP という)がある。この拙文を読まれる読者は IAP 日本支部の会員の方なので、こ の USCAP についてとやかく説明するまでもないが、とにかく国際病理アカデミー (IAP)の中でも最大の支部会で、世界中から名だたる病理医が集まる「外科病理 学の大伽藍」といえるものなのだ。この USCAP は参加登録料が高いのが難点であ るが、IAP 日本支部に入っていれば、USCAP の本会員とあまり変わりがない登録 料金で参加できるのが嬉しい。 <あー、シアトルは今日も雨だった> 今回の USCAP はシアトルのワシントン州会議場で開催されたが(3 月 12 日か ら 18 日:写真 1)、ここはビルの 6 階までが学会場として使用できる大きさで、芸 術的センスが感じられる。また、会議室から外に出ると花が咲き乱れる公園になっ ていた。学会の合間に少し周りを散歩したが、コブシに似た花が満開で、梨の花や 桜の花までも咲いていた(写真2)。シアトルの春はコブシの花で始まるようだ。 2016 年の USCAP の舞台となったシアトルという町は天気の悪いことで有名だ。 小生はシアトルに6 日間滞在したが、晴れたのは最後の2 日ほどで、あとは曇り時々 雨、少し霙かなというどんよりした天気だった。このような天気が続くと気分も暗 くなりそうだが、シアトル市民は明るくて開放的だった。ちょうどセントパトリッ クデーが行われていて、町中にアイルランドの緑色があふれていたのが印象的だっ た。 写真1 米国・カナダ病理学会(USCAP) ―シアトルは今日も雨だった― IAP 日本支部会長 加藤良平
