1 Open FloTrac sensorpackaging and inspectcontents. Replace all capswith non-vented caps andensure that all connectionsare tight.

2 Remove the FloTracsensor from packagingand insert into anEdwards Lifesciencesmounting back-platethat is secured on anI.V. pole.

3 To de-air and prime I.V.bag and FloTrac system:Invert NaCl I.V. bag (anticoag-ulation per institution policy).Spike I.V. bag with fluid admin-istration set, keeping dripchamber upright. While keep-ing I.V. bag inverted, gentlysqueeze air out of bag withone hand while pulling flushtab with the other hand untilair is emptied from I.V. bagand drip chamber isfilled half-way.

5 With gravity only (nopressure in Pressure Bag),flush FloTrac sensor hold-ing pressure tubing inupright position asthe column of fluid raisesthrough the tubing, push-ing air out of the pressuretubing until the fluidreaches the end of thetubing.

6 Pressurize the Pressure Bag until it reaches 300mmHg.

7 Fast-flush the FloTrac sensor and tap on tubing andstopcocks to remove any residual bubbles.

8 Connect the green FloTrac connecting cable to thegreen capped connector on the FloTrac sensor. Thenconnect the opposite end of the cable to the connec-tion labeled “FloTrac” on the back of the Vigileomonitor.

9 Connect the bedsidemonitor’s arterialpressure cable tothe white cableconnector on theFloTrac sensor.

4 Insert I.V. bag into the Pressure Bag andhang on I.V. pole (do not inflate).

10 Connect tubing to arterial catheter, then aspirateand flush system to assure no residual bubbles remain.

11 Level the FloTrac sensor to the phlebostatic axis.Note: It is important to keep the FloTrac sensor levelto the phlebostatic axis at all times to ensure accuracyof cardiac output.a. Open the stopcock to atmospheric air.b. Highlight the upper left Cardiac Output frame

using the navigation knob on the Vigileo monitor.Select Zero Arterial Pressure, then select and pressZero.

c. Zero the arterial channel on the bedside monitor.

12 Cardiac output will display within 40 seconds andwill update every 20 seconds thereafter.

13 Inspect arterial pressure trace on bedside monitoringscreen or the waveform confirmation screen on theVigileo monitor.

1 Press the buttonon the front panel toturn the Vigileo moni-tor ON. The screenwill display an open-ing message, indicat-ing that a Power-OnSelf-Test (POST) isbeing performed.

2 When the POST iscomplete, patientinformation (gender,age, height, andweight) must beentered before cardiacoutput monitoringcan occur.

3 Use the navigation knob to select and enter values.Press Continue to confirm selection and open theHome screen.

5 Connect the other end of the FloTrac cable to thegreen capped FloTrac sensor.

6 Rotate navigationknob until the COframe is outlinedin yellow and thenpress the knob toopen CO menu.

Edwards Vigileo Monitor Setup & Zeroing

7 From the CO Menu,rotate the navigationknob until Zero ArterialPressure is highlightedand then press theknob. The Zero ArterialPressure screen willappear.

8 Open the FloTrac sensorto atmospheric air.Rotate the navigationknob on the Vigileomonitor to Zero andpress the knob. SelectReturn to exit screen.Close the FloTrac sensorto atmospheric air.

4 Connect the FloTrac con-necting cable to theFloTrac cable connector atthe back of the Vigileomonitor. Align the arrowsat the top of the cableconnector on the monitorto the arrow on theFloTrac connecting cable.

9 Cardiac output will bedisplayed within 40seconds after arterialpressure is registeredby the FloTrac sensor.
