Visual Echoes is an international exchange exhibition between the students of Swansea Metropolitan: University of Wales: Trinity Saint David in South West Wales, UK & Sichuan Fine Ar ts Institute (SFAI) in central China.
The show is exhibited in two par ts, with work from Swansea being exhibited at SFAI during March and April 2013 and work from SFAI being shown in Swansea during September and October 2013.
This catalogue documents the initial stage of the exchange and includes a range of hand-selected students from a number of ar tistic (BA) disciplines from Swansea Metropolitan’s Ar t and Design depar tment:

The original concept for Visual Echoes occurred after I was selected to par ticipate in a one-month residency at SFAI. Alongside pursuing my own ar tistic enquiries, I also wanted to find a way to engage the student communities of both institutions in a meaningful and beneficial manner.
Visual Echoes is my attempt at doing so, and provides many of those involved with their first oppor tunity to exhibit work internationally.

“视觉回响”是一场国际交流展览，参与的学生来自英国的斯旺西城市大学、威尔士大学圣大卫三一学院以及中国中部的四川美术学院。
本次展览分为两个阶段，来自斯旺西城市大学的作品将于2013年三至四月在四川美术学院展出，而来自四川美术学院的作品将于2013年九至十月在斯旺西城市大学展出。
此目录记录了本次交流的初始阶段，囊括了一批从斯旺西城市大学艺术与设计系艺术专业挑选的学生。

“视觉回响”的灵感产生于我被选中在四川美术学院居住了一个月后。除了追求我自身的艺术造诣，我想寻求一个方法使两个学院的学生能以一种有益有利的方式参与其中。
“视觉回响”便是我的一次尝试，给参与者提供了机会，对于他们大部分人来说，这是第一次有机会将作品在国外展出。

Firstly let me extend my thanks to both host institutions and The British Council in Chongqing. Without them this exchange exhibition wouldn’t have been possible.
Within each of these organisations there are some specific people who warrant special praise.
In Swansea: Professor Andrea Liggins was instrumental in setting up the staff exchange and suppor ting this initiative. Hamish Gane, Stephanie Tuckwell and Derek Bainton for helping to shor tlist the students. Thomas Smith, who has worked wonders in helping to pull everything together. Craig Wood, for not only his advice but also for helping to hang the show. Professor Tim Davies deserves a special thank you, as well as helping to shor tlist students, he was also responsible for introducing me to China during a research trip to Xiamen in 2012. James Moxey and all the CIRIC staff who have suppor ted me throughout the last seven years. Last but not least, the students who submitted work for the exhibition. Shor t listing for this exhibition was a difficult and unenviable task, such was the quality of work. Thanks also to Professor David Warner and Jayne Harries in our International Depar tment.
My thanks also extends to the far reaches of Central China, to Mr Li for all his effor ts in securing the exhibition venue and all the other staff at SFAI for helping with this initative.
