KINDNESS AT JP

The nicest thing someone at JP has done for me is…

“...listening to me rant about my life problems, without interruption, and

giving me a cupcake to cheer

me up.” – Lavanya Ande

“…support me when I was losing confidence in myself and losing hope

in my work.” –Nami Jain

“…tutoring me in the subject I needed

help with the most.” –Krish Patel

“…when my friends offer/give me rides

when I need them.” –Nina Patel

“…carrying my books to the car when I was injured and unable to carry the weight

along with crutches.” –Gurleen Sodhi

“…supporting me and my team

during the volleyball games,

especially when we feel like giving up.”

–Nirav Patel

“…someone giving the notes I missed while I

was sick at home along with a small

note that wished me to

get well soon.” –Annie Ikemoto

Congrats to all the winners, and Denny Mugica for

winning first place. With his awesome singing skills, he

impressed the panel of judges consisting of

Ms. Zazanis, Mr. Alfonzo, and Ms.

Biloholowski. He also certainly entertained

the crowd as they went wild cheering for him.

A special thanks to Sharkboy and Lavagirl for

making the show a little spicy in between the

acts, whether it be Sharkboy “trying” to do

something funny or Lavagirl “trying” to get

the crowd to like her more than Sharkboy,

and vice-versa. As we move on with our lives,

everyone possesses a talent that they have discovered

or are still on a search for. That talent is present in

everyone; you just need to search and wait for that

one moment where you discover it. Unless you're like

Sharkboy and Lavagirl, in which case you're in

retirement, and you’ll never find your talent. We

would to thank everyone for making it a such a huge

success, and once again thank you for all the

participants of JPS Got Talent.

The newly-opened JPS Farm Stand

was a huge success! Attendees were graced with the fresh vegetation grown in our very own greenhouse and the unbelievable prices. Filled with 100% organic vegetables that are maintained by the students of JP, the JPS Farm Stand and the Greenhouse were created to impact the community

directly. They help people get fresh and organic vegetables, that would normally cost them a lot, for lower prices. This way, both the community and JP Stevens are being impacted in a positive way. We would like to thank, all the executives, Ms. Holborow and everyone who has worked in the greenhouse, for their hard work and belief in the Greenhouse’s future success.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR 2017-18

Each year, staff, students and parents have the opportunity to

nominate an educator to receive the Teacher of the Year honor.

This program was developed to recognize teachers for their

excellence and dedication which directly leads to the success of the

students and the school. This year’s J. P. Stevens Teacher of the

Year has definitely made a difference for students and our school

community. Her work ethic is amazing. Her top priority is to make sure all students

receive appropriate educational foundation by promoting curiosity and self-directed

learning. Her lessons challenge students to think critically and creatively as she challenges

all students to perform to their potential. And, if a student needs help, she is more than

willing to help—she helps students all the time—before school, during her lunch, after

school. And through it all, she maintains a positive attitude. She is definitely a model of

competence and kindness. So many of us go to her for advice, support and guidance. This

year, she has an added responsibility as advisor of a club…just another way that she lives

out her passion every day, making J. P. Stevens a better school community. The J. P.

Stevens 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year is Ms. Darrah. Congratulations, Ms. Darrah,

Science Teacher Extraordinaire!

HOLIDAY GIFT GIVING

It’s that time of the year once again! JP Stevens has adopted 11 families this holiday season for the C.A.R.E. project. The C.A.R.E. project sponsors families of Edison with children who are in need of gifts for the upcoming holiday season. If you are interested in providing a gift, individually or as a group, please:

Take a tag from the giving tree in the Counseling Office naming the gift you need to purchase (one tag per person unless you are taking for a club).

Complete the information on the sign-up sheet for that specific item.

Purchase and wrap the gift, using the same tag as a label for the gift.

Return the gift to the Guidance Office no later than December 15th.

Our only request is that once you take a tag from the giving tree, you follow through with your commitment to provide a gift. This is a great opportunity for the JP Stevens family to come together to make someone’s holiday a little brighter!

All Students: The School Counseling Department recommends that

everyone get at least 8 hours of sleep (and hopefully more)! We are here

to help you manage your time, schoolwork, and activities. By making a

schedule and by separating your play time (Snapchat, Instagram, etc)

from your work time, you can achieve this goal.

SURVEYS This is a new survey for this week about time management and sleep. It would

behoove you to fill this out if you would like to see changes in the way you

manage your time. You can start it by clicking the link below:

Did you know that in 2006 someone tried to sell New

Zealand on eBay? The price went up to $3,000 before eBay shut down

the bidding. This is because New Zealand is only worth 5 or 6 dollars,

so eBay didn’t want to see so much money go to waste. What a great

company.
