The Powys countryside is a spectacle of rolling hills, gentle woodland and green pastures, and Caerwedyn sits in, and is surrounded by, this most

glorious scenery. When the present owners Lewis

and Elizabeth first discovered the farmhouse, when

renovation had not been fully completed, but they

immediately knew they wanted to live in this fantastic

location. They also realised that the old farmhouse had

the potential to become a spacious family home. Both

the renovation and extension were completed with

great love, plus exacting attention to detail, ensuring

that everything was finished to the highest standard.

Every room has stunning panoramic views across the countryside and the lounge is a favourite room.

Elizabeth says, “It is a large and very comfortable room. In the

winter the log burning stove makes it a cosy, family winter retreat

but it is the scenic backdrop that gives it a huge wow factor. I can

relax on the settee, look through the large patio doors, and savour

the beauty before me. The countryside runs to the horizon and the

constantly changing skies bring their own drama; it is a different

view each day and through each season.

“The west side of the house is the perfect spot for an evening glass of wine, as the vivid colours of the sun sets are stunning. It is also a pleasure to open

the bedroom curtains each day and be greeted by such idyllic views. You can even

enjoy the panorama from the bath.” Continues Lewis.

Caerwedyn has been a loved home for 15 years, and it is a house that is best when full of people. The family can gather round the dining room table for chatty meals and the grandchildren adore

the complete safety and freedom they have when they visit. It is a delight for them to wander and experience the pleasure of the natural world around them. Elizabeth says they have been able to complete,

“The 50 things to do before you are 113/4,” as suggested by the National Trust book. The 3 acres of land runs from the garden, into the paddock, woodland and neighbouring fields, where sheep graze

contentedly. The old farmyard buildings have gone but their footprints can be seen, and add an interest to the garden. Springtime bluebells provide a burst of colour in the paddock and there is a myriad of

bird life to watch. Lewis and Elizabeth are sad to leave Caerwedyn and the superb lifestyle it has provided but they take away very happy memories.
