This means you’ll graduate with a university qualification, but studyin a location convenient for you. If you don’t quite have the right qualifications for a full Honoursdegree, there will still be opportunities. There are a range of qualifications on offer: FoundationDegrees, HNCs and HNDs – take a look at our course list. Courses supported by the Universityare identified throughout this guide.

Guide to Higher Education courses

A Higher Education qualification will give you specialist knowledge ofyour subject and the skills needed to work at a higher level with moreresponsibility, opportunities for promotion and higher pay. Our coursesare offered in a range of areas, with most being linked directly tospecific industries and job roles.

The table shows the progression from Level 3 courses all the way upto Masters and Doctorates. You don’t necessarily need a Level 3qualification to get onto our courses. For mature learners we can takeinto consideration life experience and your current job role. Entryrequirements will be listed with each of the courses, but please contactthe College if you need any further help with your suitability.

Student Finance A higher education course is an investment in your future. There are costs associated with learning, whether it’s the time you invest or thetuition fees for your course. Financial assistance is available for higher education learners, so studying maybe more affordable than you firstthought. Depending on your personal circumstances, you could be eligible for a range of grants, loans and allowances to help with tuition feesand living costs.

Course fees For the 2018-19 academic year, full-time course fees for an HNC, HNDor Foundation Degree are £7,500 per year. The full-time fee for aCertificate of Higher Education or top-up degree is £9,000 per year.Welsh learners will only need to pay £4,296* per year for a full-timecourse as the remainder of the fee is covered by a Welsh GovernmentFee Grant for eligible learners. Before you apply, you will need to check the University of SouthWales website for the latest information on fees and student supportfor the course you want to study. Visit: www.southwales.ac.uk/money

Support Financial support is available via Student Finance Wales. You canchoose to pay tuition fees upfront or defer payment by applying for aTuition Fee Loan. Full-time learners may also be eligible for a means-tested Welsh Government Learning Grant of up to £5,161* per yearand/or a Maintenance Loan to help with your living costs. You will only

need to start paying back your loans once you’re earning over £21,000per year. Learners who have an adult dependant or child may also beable to apply for additional support through the Adults DependantsGrant, Parents Learning Allowance or Childcare Grant. This support ismeans-tested against household income and whether you qualify willdepend on your individual circumstances. Student finance information,along with how to apply and eligibility checkers, are available online at:www.studentfinancewales.co.uk
