JBLM is continuing operations as normal and the decals must be left onall vehicles registered on JBLM. It is the senior commanders decision toimplement any changes in the vehicle registration and decal requirements.

YOUTH RESILENCY ACADEMY- Youth Resiliency Academy is designed to create anetwork of informed teens who are better prepared and motivated to respond morepositively to adversity and successfully overcome the challenges faced by today'smilitary Family.     6. "123 Magic Class: Managing Difficult Behaviors in Children 2-12". This class offers

    military parents, along with civilian employees, the opportunity to learn simple solutions andtechniques to address obnoxious behaviors (i.e. whining, arguing, tantrums) utilizing time-outs, but with a different attitude and technique than you may have tried in the past. It reallydoes work, according to the many participants who have taken this research-based class.Free on-site child care is available if your child is pre-registered with CYS.     7. ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a two day workshop (16 hours). Ittrains you to become an effective caregiver for a person at risk of suicide. It helps youperform suicide first aid for this person. It helps you to assist the person at risk of suicide to

    stay safe and to seek further help. ASIST is a very interactive workshop that equips you to:recognize invitations for help, reach out and offer support, review the risks of suicide, applya suicide intervention model, and link the person at risk to community resources. ASIST is avery effective program. Evaluations have shown that it increases a caregivers knowledge,skills, and confidence to respond to a person at risk of suicide.     CLOSURES AND CONSTRUCTION

    1. JBLM POOL CLOSURE- The Kimbro Pool located in the McVeigh gym near the CareyTheater will close Oct. 31. It is scheduled to re-open in Sept. 2012. Renovations willinclude new lap lanes, better filtration & climate control, and a zero-depth kiddie pool w/indoor splash park. Until then, youth lessons, evening swim, scuba classes &

    NG/Reserve training move to newly-renovated Keeler Pool (Old Madigan Area) &weekend swim, pool parties/rentals move to the pool @Soldiers Field House.

    2. Liggett Avenue- Public Works announced plans to shut down Liggett Avenue betweenDivision and 12th Streets for 45 days of construction. The project start date depends onthe contract, but PW expects work to begin by press time. The closure will include theintersection of Liggett and Division, but 12th Street and the intersection at Liggett and12th will remain open. Parking areas along that length of Liggett Avenue will be blocked.Most of the parking areas have access from other directions, but parking will be blockedcompletely in front of and west of McVeigh Sports and Fitness Center and across thestreet from I Corps Headquarters, Building 2025. Parking for McVeigh will be in the rear

    and on the north side of Liggett, which can be accessed from Pendleton. While Liggett isunder construction, the contractor is required to provide access from the parking areanorth of Liggett to McVeigh at, or near the location of the current McVeigh crosswalk.

    3. Pendleton Avenue- Construction to upgrade the road substructure under PendletonAvenue near the Town Center on JBLM Lewis Main will be completed in a few months.Pendleton between 8th and 12th streets will be closed daily for construction from 6 p.m.to 5 a.m. Access to offices and other buildings will be maintained. Traffic will be detouredto Liggett Avenue during construction hours. Officials are working to mitigate noiseimpact to Town Center residents. This is the first of several major construction projectson two miles of Pendleton Avenue during the next 18 months, as crews widen the roadand upgrade communication, power and water lines underneath. The widened avenue

    will result in better traffic flow, parking and facility access, creating a friendlierenvironment for bikes and pedestrians. For more information, visit the Pendleton Avenuewebsite at www.jblmpendleton.com.

    4. North Gate Road- Road repairs on the JBLM North Gate Road (Huggins Meyer RoadSW), a 1.7 mile stretch between JBLM Lewis Norths D Street Gate and Lakewood, willcontinue through today. Commuters who normally use North Gate Road will be detouredthrough Lakewood and Steilacoom. The D Street Gate on JBLM Lewis North will remainopen throughout the road repair projects. Emergency vehicles will have access throughthe construction site for emergencies. Clover Park School buses will also have access totransit through the construction site. Upon completion of the North Gate Road repairs,East Drive will close for repairs. East Drive repairs include adding a right turn lane and atraffic signal. Repairs to East Drive are expected to take approximately 90 days. These

    road repair projects were designed to improve roadway surfaces, increase trafficmobility, and create a safer driving environment for the community.
