GET READY TO GO

STREAKING!

Everyone’s doing it…

Join the excitement - take part in the

2nd Annual

It’s the flashy kickoff to our 2010

Lloydminster Enerflex MS Walk campaign,

and we want you there to

show your colors!

On Tuesday, February 2nd, join us in the

Lloyd Mall, near Shopper’s Drug Mart

between 11 am & 1 pm.

There you’ll have the opportunity to have

a streak of RED put in your hair to visually

demonstrate your support in the fight

against MS.

Don’t worry, you’ll be in

good hands. The staff at

Chatters have once again

partnered with us to do the streaking –

which is completely temporary.

BRAND NEW THIS YEAR: In addition to

the option of having a free temporary

streak of red put into your hair, you’ll

also be able to purchase a $5 red

clip-in streak, which Chatters staff will

custom cut to length for you. Then, you

can remove and re-wear the streak any

time you’d like, including sporting it

at the Walk in April!

We encourage all MS supporters to

come out & make a statement.

If you’re a Walk Team Captain,

here’s a great opportunity for

you to kick-start your 2010

efforts by bringing the entire

team out to get streaked.

While you’re streaking on February 2nd,

you can also REGISTER for the 2010

Enerflex MS Walk on the spot! We’ll

have pledge kits on hand so you can

get fundraising early…Staff will be at

the mall following the Streak event

until 5pm to continue taking

registrations.

socialize over a ‘friendly’ game of cards.

Games, Crafts & Conversation runs once a month, featuring themed crafts, décor & snacks

as the seasons change.

For those not into crafts, we offer cards & board games for your amusement.

While we’ll provide light snacks & refreshments,

Funding Announcement

The Lloydminster Chapter is

pleased to inform you that thanks

to funds raised through the 2009

Leckie & Associates Charity Golf

Tournament, we are now offering a

special new funding program.

Effective immediately, we will be

offering financial aid of

$1,000/person to individuals living

with MS, to go toward the purchase

of a scooter. As is the case with

our regular Special Assistance

Funding Program, funds will be

only be distributed on a last-resort

basis to individuals who have

exhausted other means of funding.

Those interested will be asked to

fill out an application form, which

will be reviewed by our Client

Services Committee before a

funding decision is made.

We realize that scooters are often

an essential part of maintaining

mobility & independence for a

person living with MS; we want to

help ensure that finances aren’t a

barrier in making such an important

purchase possible for a person who

is in need.

For more information, or for an

application, call the Chapter

Office at 780-871-0513.

Our sincere thanks to Leckie &

Associates for helping to make this

exciting initiative possible.

FREE MASSAGES!

Students of Lakeland College’s Massage

Therapy Program will once again be offering

$10 massages (a special discounted rate just for MS Society

Members)

at the College. Massages will begin at the

end of March, with bookings being accepted

mid-March.

If you’re interested, call (780) 871-5715 in

mid-March & leave a message. Someone

from the College will call you back to

schedule your appointment.

Chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) describes a

hypothetical disruption of blood flow in which the venous system is not able to

efficiently remove blood from the central nervous system resulting in increased

pressure in the veins of the brain & spinal cord which in turn results in damage to

these areas. Recent reports have revived the idea of an association between

inadequate venous drainage & multiple sclerosis.

There has been tremendous interest &

excitement about CCSVI and the MS story that appeared on CTV’s W5 recently.

While Dr. Zamboni is the first to comment that these early results require additional study, we’re excited to let you know that the MS Society of Canada has confirmed that it is launching a competition to fund operating grants related to CCSVI & MS.

To read about CCSVI and this research

announcement, visit the MS Society website:

www.mssociety.ca and click on ‘CCSVI & MS’.

We will be sure to keep you updated on this topic as more information becomes

available.

On the evening of October 21, 2009, our very own Lloydminster Chapter was announced as the winner of

the 2009 Non-Profit of the Year Award at the Chamber of Commerce’s

Business Week Awards Gala. This honour would not have been possible without the

tremendous efforts of our dedicated army of volunteers, who have truly given wings to our

Chapter. We’d like to extend a sincere ‘thank you’ to each and every person who has contributed their time to assisting our Chapter in ways large and small; this

award truly belongs to all of you! We’d also like to sincerely thank the local business
