SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 19, 2020
. . . Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we strive to meet the
spiritual and physical needs of our parish family and the
world community. ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
"Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father." —Mt. 13: 43A
Dear Friends,
As you know, my family and I were vacationing together at the Outer Banks. Coming home I found out
that there were many of our parishioners also enjoying time with family and friends all along the seaboard. I
want to thank Fr. Bonnot and Fr. Korda for their availability to celebrate Holy Mass with you here at St.
Patrick's.
The big question everyone is asking: Are we going to have the festival? The answer is unfortunately, no.
The festival committee has looked at all of our options and we really did not want to jeopardize the health
and well-being of our parish family members and friends who work and visit the festival. The festival is a
wonderful summer tradition here at St. Patrick's. It's a wonderful opportunity for family and friends to work
together, socialize with neighbors, and raise money for the ministries of our parish family. However, the
safety and well-being of our community is most important. The money that we make as profit from the
festival enables us to provide the best services for you and our community outreach. It enables us to provide
meaningful and vibrant worship. It helps to provide faith-filled educational experiences and opportunities for
young and old. What to do?
We ask you, our parishioners, to help promote our raffle. This will be the only means of income to make
up for our loss. Last year we made $123,463.88 from our festival for our parish. We also lost revenue from
our Lenten Fish Fry. The good news is that at this time ticket sales for the 2020 Equinox or $20,000 have
covered the expense of the prize. We need your help to make up some of our lost revenue. Ticket sales from
parishioners have been the best ever. However, we need an incentive for the community and family
members to purchase tickets. From now until Aug. 9, the day of the drawing, (online orders will be due by
midnight, Saturday, August 8, 2020), festival 2020 raffle tickets have been reduced to 20 tickets for $20. We
need to do whatever we can to make this raffle a success for St. Patrick's, since the car raffle is the only
source of festival revenue this year.
We are an amazing group of people. We put God and family first. That's why we are blessed. Your
support and dedication have blessed our parish family. Your faith is the inspiration that keeps us ministering
the Word and Sacraments here in Hubbard at St. Patrick's. THANK YOU!
Fr. Mike

NEW STATUES IN OUR CHURCH
You may have noticed the two new statues
of Our Lady in the church. The statue behind
the Tabernacle is Our Lady of the Eucharist, to
remind us of our longing for the Holy Eucharist
when we had to make Spiritual Communions
during Lent, Easter and the Easter season.
The other statue is the Immaculate Heart of
Mary. Our nation and parish were dedicated to
Our Lady, Mother of the Church. For the statue
of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we can still
take donations in honor of Our Lady. If you
would like, please call the parish house.
Thirteen peas. In his book Children and other Wild Animals, the late Brian Doyle writes about his son Liam's medical battles. Liam was born with only three chambers in his heart—little Liam required two operations before he was two. Doyle writes that both operations went by "in a blur." A day after the little boy's second operation, doctors told Brian he could try to feed Liam real food. Liam's favorite food: peas. "So here I am," Dad writes, "feeding him in his hospital bed. The bed is cantilevered up at the north end so that he can eat. He is eating pea by pea. He is awake and groggy and each time a pea hovers into his viewfinder he regards it with sluggish surprise. He likes peas. I put the peas in his mouth one by one. His lips reach out a little for each pea and then maul it gently for a while before the pea disappears. Each time his lips accept the pea they also accept the ends of my thumb and forefinger for an instant. After thirteen peas he falls asleep and I crank the bed flat and kneel down and pray like hell." Thirteen little peas are life support for a critically-ill little boy. They're the means for his desperate father to make some meaningful, loving contact with his son. So many small, ordinary things in our days can be revelations of the love of God in our midst. We have so many mustard seeds that we can plant and nurture into safe havens for those we love, simple "peas" that can express a love and care that moves us beyond our fears and grief to real hope. This is mustard-seed faith: to realize the presence of God in the smallest, most hidden moments, to ignite a spark of God's light in the midst of unremitting darkness and pain; to reveal God's mercy in focused, visible ways, no matter how simple or small. Like the Gospel mustard seed, may we use the "little" we have—and are—to bring the compassion and forgiveness of God into our own families and communities, like yeast that transforms flour and water into bread, may we transform our church and world in the justice and peace of Christ.

DEACON JOHN'S STEWARDSHIP COLUMN Last week as I was enjoying a quiet evening at home when my phone rang and the name Mikayla Smith appeared on my caller ID. Mikayla is the young lady who was a member of our Celebrate Team, Catholic Heart Workcamp Team, an athlete and an exceptional student. Mikayla suffered a stroke and is facing many challenges like learning to walk and talk once again. The conversation we shared not only led me to tears but inspired me. Mikayla’s medical condition seemed to be hopeless initially. There was one setback after another. In our conversation it was her faith, hope and love for God that inspired me. Mikayla believes that she is on the road to recovery only by the grace of God and all the prayers of so many people. Through all of her difficulties over the last several weeks her call to stewardship is at the forefront of her spiritual life. Mikayla has every intention of still becoming a doctor. She wants to save the lives of people who are suffering. She is filled with the power of the Holy Spirit and wants to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to everyone she meets. Mikayla told me that God is not the spare tire in her life. She does not only rely on Him in troubled times but that God is the steering wheel that will guide her each and every day of her life. Mikayla’s heart inspires me through the teachings and the words of Christ himself.
Fear not, be brave, for I am with you. My child, you are beloved. Loved into existence and created for goodness through me. Your inheritance is divine. You are robed with my divine will. You are fully alive in my divine heart. My plans for you are great. Through me, you are capable of great things. Be Brave!
Thank you, Mikayla, for your courage and the inspiration you are to all of us.
God bless, Deacon John Bartos
