High endurance chassisThe Renault Kerax is dedicated to demonstrating itsendurance under all circumstances and mastering everykind of load. To achieve this aim, its chassis benefitsfrom toughened architecture and high-performancesteel combined with riveted and bolted assembly.The Renault Kerax offers a range of light and heavychassis, according to application. The level ofreinforcement is achieved by varying reinforcementlength, enabling the technical load to be adapted to allsituations. This means the 8 x 4 model can offer:• 32 tonnes in the Medium version for standard public

works use• 42 tonnes in the Heavy version for more intensive

applications (quarries and high tonnage).

410 and 450 hp.

At 450 hp, the DXi11 develops:• Maximum power of 331 kW (451 hp) at 1,900 rpm• Maximum torque of 2,140 Nm from 1,100 to 1,300 rpmThis reserve of power, with its high torque, gives itunequalled pulling power and crossing capacity.

A wide range of solutionsThe perfectly integrated powertrain enables amaximum amount of energy to be transmitted to thewheels for optimal pulling power.

Four mechanical gearboxes adapted to each powerrating and each application are available.They are all fitted with the Super H control whichsuperimposes gears 5 to 8 on top of gears 1 to 4,significantly improving driving ergonomics.

The new "C 9 Mechanics" double reduction driveaxles offer a wide range of torque values and areavailable in 9t front solo and 15t rear versions, plus atandem version of up to 32 tonnes.

Outstanding crossing capacityWith its ovoid shaped drive axles, new casing andstraight, latest generation axles, whose mountings arelocated in the upper part, the Renault Kerax improveseven further on its market-leading ground clearance.

By definition an "off road" vehicle, it reaches newheights: with ground clearance under the front axle of395 mm, and 370 mm under the rear drive axle, plusan approach angle that can be as much as 37°(depending on suspension and tyres).

For greater safety, the Renault Kerax is fitted with hillstart assistance (HSA): this system allows the parkingbrake to be released automatically, enabling the vehicleto start safely on gradients, without any risk of rollingbackwards.

The technologicalchoice for the futureTo ensure compliance with the Euro 4 standard,Renault Trucks has chosen SCR technology:• Fuel consumption cut by up to 5% compared with

average Euro 3 and Euro 4 EGR vehicles - optimisingyour maintenance costs

The post treatment system chosen by Renault Trucks tocomply with the Euro 4 standard is the SCR system. (SelectiveCatalist Reduction) which consists of several elements:• An AdBlue tank• An AdBlue dosing module (DNOx pump)• A medium allowing NOx catalysis to take place• An AdBlue injector in the exhaust• Sensors which ensure the whole system is operating

normally (detecting NOx, AdBlue level and temperature andhigh-temperature measurements).

GearboxesNew manual gearboxes combining payload capacity, lowerfuel consumption and pleasant driving to perfection.

Four 16 speed manual gearboxes.

Three systems make gearshifting smoother:

• The cable control offering comfort (by filtering vibrations),flexibility and safety: eliminates gears jumping due todifferences in relative movement of the cab to the chassis.

• The Servoshift: the assistance system which reduces theeffort required to shift gears by 75%.

The 16S 2220 TO gearbox is fitted with the “Super H” control.

The Super H consists of superimposing gears 5 to 8 ongears 1 to 4.To shift from one level of gears to another requires merelypressing a button on the gearshift lever handle.An electrovalve protects the system from shifting gearsinadvertently.Protection of the gearbox splitter synchro preventing shiftsfrom a high to a low range of gears.The selection of gears is accurate, swift (short selection travel)and secured (electrovalve).The gearbox is adapted to be used with double reduction driveaxles, giving the vehicle greater mobility.

Optimised production and processing.

BrakingRenault Kerax is fitted with drum brakes as standard and thenew generation Electronic Braking System (EBS 5).This is an electronically-controlled air braking systemwhich adapts vehicle braking to each wheel independentlyaccording to road grip conditions.

Two levels of features are available:EBS BasicABS - controls directional stability during emergency braking.

Emergency braking assistance: braking distance optimisationduring emergency stops.

Engine brake management: enables lightly loaded vehicles tobe kept under control on wet surfaces during changing downphases by avoiding rear wheel lock.

EBS Basic +In addition to EBS Basic this includes:Hill start assistance: enables the brakes to be releasedwithout the vehicle rolling backwards.

ASR anti-skid system enabling control to be maintained of thevehicle on slippery surfaces

Brake pad wear balancing system: managing brake pad wearbetween axles so that only one maintenance operation isrequired.

Coupling of different braking systems.

Renault Trucks retardation policy enables the various brakingsystems to be linked together: service brakes, engine brakeand retarders.

This system is controlled by the EBS (Electronic BrakingSystem):Either automatically or by activating the brake pedal• Optimised braking, weighted by the load on the rear axle• Distribution of wear by brake pad optimisation• Rapid response time• Smooth driving• 100% braking capacity is used (engine brakes, exhaust
