DVB-T: OFDM modulation for terrestrial broadcasting of digital TV signals
TheDVB-TstandardemploysOFDM(orthogonalfrequencydivisionmultiplex)modulation.Thismodulationisappliedtothedownconvertermodule(selec-tiveornon-selective,dependingonthemodel)whichconvertsthesignaltoa36MHzIF.Itcanthenbefilteredbydif-ferentSAWfilters(dependingontheoc-cupiedbandwidth),andGaussiannoisecanbeinternallyaddedformarginmea-surements.
TheIFsignalisconvertedtothebase-bandusinganumericcontroloscillator.AfastFouriertransform(2kor8k)trans-latesthesignalfromthetimedomaintothefrequencydomain.Then,channelestimationisusedtocorrectthesignal’samplitude,phase,anddelay(continuousanddiscretepilotsareusedforthistask)toeliminatemostofthedegradationin-troducedduringRFtransmission.
DatapacketsarethenappliedtotheViterbiconvolutionaldecoder,datadeinterleaver(outerde-interleaver),Reed-Solomondecoderanddatade-randomizer(energydispersal).Finally,theMPEG-2interfacefeedsthedemodu-latedMPEG-2transportstreamtothehardwareoutputinterface(TSSPIorTSASI)(seeFig.below).
