HermÚs welcomes a precious line in rose gold to its Galop collection, which was launched in silver in spring 2013.
The horse, the emblem of HermÚs, lends its refned profle to sculptural pieces, highlighted with diamonds whose sparkle subtly contrasts with the soft rose gold. The line includes a ring of extravagant volume, a graceful long necklace, and a torsade bracelet whose clasp is a reinterpretation of the bit. Some pieces are fully set with diamonds. The metal almost vanishes under the extremely fne paving, giving the diamonds a unique sparkle. A bracelet and a ring, both adorned with a small diamond, complete the line and perfectly refect its refned delicacy.

The story of Salvatore Ferragamo begins over a century ago with a young apprentice shoemaker in Naples. With a passion for footwear and an eye for business, Ferragamo was making his own made-to-measure shoes by the age of 13, before moving from Italy to the US in 1914 to court the burgeoning Hollywood scene. In 1927, knowing that traditional Italian shoemakers were the best in the world, he took his eponymous label back to Italy, establishing a factory in Florence.
His relentless quest for beauty and innovation soon made him one of the premier shoe designers in the world, a legacy that his family continues to this day. The long association of international collections
with Paris, Milan, New York and London has
become so engrained that when a big name
shows somewhere else it can be difcult to take
in. However, a glance through the schedules
of recent seasons of Singapore Fashion Week
reveals that renowned fashion houses such
as Chanel and Oscar de la Renta have done
precisely that.
At Chanelâs show, Karl Lagerfeld (not
one to do things by halves) constructed a vast,
traditional-style Singaporean house in which
to present the brandâs 2014 Cruise collection,
an event attended by Carine Roitfeld and
Dakota Fanning. In a similar vein, Oscar de
la Rentaâs closing show for Singapore Fashion
Week attracted Kate Bosworth, brand
ambassador for the SK-II beauty range.
The shows refect the growth of
Singaporeâs fashion industry and consequently,
in the past decade, retail space here has
expanded considerably, with luxury brands
such as Louis Vuitton and Givenchy opening
numerous stores. Most signifcant of all is the

development of Marina Bay Sands which cost
US$5.7 billion and includes a mall (the Shoppes
at Marina Bay Sands) and resort; it now houses
a host of fashion and high-jewellery boutiques,
from Balenciaga and Céline to Saint Laurent,
Tom Ford, Chopard and Versace.
The country also boasts a growing
community of designers such as Prabul
Gurung, whose fashion-forward, feminine
styles are applauded by editors and high-
profle women including Michelle Obama
and Kate Middleton. Singaporean business
tycoon Christina Ong is another example.
She founded the multibrand boutique Club
21 in 1972 and today sits on the boards of
numerous fashion labels. Club 21 is credited
with bringing names such as Jil Sander, Dries
Van Noten and Comme des Garçons to Asia.
Of great infuence, too, is Ethan K,
a fourth-generation artisan from family tannery
Heng Long (which is now owned by LVMH,
the company in charge of Louis Vuitton and
Moët Hennessy). His signature, jewelled leather
bags take inspiration from Asian spices, dragon

said: âI see my task is not just to design beautiful
crocodile bags to satisfy womenâs desires, but
also to share with my friends and family our
genuine culture. We have to be proud of who
we are, our heritage and what we stand for.â
Pride in Singapore is a driving force for
Frank Cintamani, chairman of the Asian
Couture Federation. Described by the Wall
Street Journal as a âbillionaire philanthropist
and fashion leaderâ, Cintamani oversees
Singaporeâs Fidé Fashion Weeks: under this
banner he has launched a menâs fashion week
in Singapore and has also enabled the country
to make fashion history as the only nation in
the East to hold formal shows of the French
haute couture collections.
âOver the last few years, Singapore has
emerged as a key centre for fashion retail in
Asia and as one of the worldâs recognised retail
destinations,â Cintamani explains. âThis is
recognition of Singaporeâs increasing maturity
in its retail landscape as well as its growing
sophistication in the consumer market.â

Penny Klein and Heidi Gosman, the stylish
