The Perfect Prayer: The Lords PrayerTeaching
Jun Gula
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name
We commit ourselves to the lifestyle befitting Gods children honesty,
humility, truthfulness, justice .
This raises our awareness of our dignity as heaven-bound and decreases our
appetite for sin.
Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
We commit ourselves with zeal to the building of Gods kingdom on
earth.... in family workplace community
This raises our docility to Gods plan and our flexibility to Gods call.
Meanwhile it decreases the likelihood of disobeying the commandments and
increases our readiness to love .
Give us this day our daily bread
It is supposed to heighten faith in Gods capacity to provide and so detach
our hearts from the greedy desire for more than the bread we need for the
day.
This disposes us to store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor
rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal (Matt. 6:20)
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us
We commit our hearts to the work of reconciliation.
Do not bring us to the test but deliver us from evil
We commit ourselves to rejecting not just sin but even the slightest indica-
tion of it.

Money
The proverbial statement about money being the root of all evil is always
being taken seriously by some and laughed at by others. Those who made pursuit
of money their end goal in life are trapped in its insatiable lure. This group believe
that money is the root of all happiness.
In the first reading, the preacher, Qoheleth uses the popular idiomatic phrase,
vanity of vanities, all things are vanity to indicate the uselessness of seeking wealth
for itself. For him, the amount of energy and time spent pursuing it including sleep-
less nights is not worth it after all. Unless money is sought for its true purpose as
Christ would tell us, that is to use our earthly wealth to purchase the heavenly
inheritance.
St. Paul in his letter to the Colossians, echoed the very meaning of Christs
words when he wrote, think of what is above not of what is on earth. In the
gospel of Luke, God regarded as fools those who think they have accumulated
enough and put their security in wealth instead of in Him.
So one may ask, what is money for and how would it be understood in terms of
being a Christian? Money is a human invention of putting in monetary value to
properties or wealth that one accumulated. It is used to acquire properties, and
today it is used for compensation for work done. After the age of barter, money
became the purchasing power and its accumulation became the bane of everyone.
Since it is small and not bulky like properties, its accumulation could be addictive
and can blind anyone who pursues it with all aggressiveness. The greed of it is what
brings about all sorts of evil, like robbery, killing, lies, powerfulness and other vices.
As a Christian, money should be seen as a gift from God meant to serve thepurpose of humanity, in bringing about fulfillment, happiness and contentment
when rewarded justly. In this case, seeking money for its sake will constitute an
aberration. Hence in the BCBP, bringing Christ to the market place means preach-
ing about the proper use of money for the sake of the Kingdom No bribery, no
cheating of others, no wasteful spending. Rather, money should be used first and
foremost for the welfare of the family, taking care of the needs of the owner and
living the Christian principle of helping our brothers and sisters in need.
When we would have done these, we are no longer to be regarded as fools, but those that will inherit the kingdom prepared by Christ. May through the inter-
cession of St. John Mary Vianney, may we all receive this gift of God, wealth, and
be able to use it wisely for our own good here on earth and for the life of the
world to come. Amen
Fr. Martin

prayer is needed on cer-

In the gospel last Sun-
