NIC NOTES
Last weekend, we celebrated the 10th Anni-versary of the Dedication of our Church along with celebrating the 95th Anniversary of the Founding of the Parish. It was truly a wonderful and blessed weekend here at the Parish of St. Helena. We celebrated the Mass of the Anni-versary of the Church at all of the Masses that weekend. At the 11 AM Mass, we celebrated a Solemn Mass. It was truly beautiful. The choirs, that is, Adult Choir, Bell Choir, Children's Chime Choir, along with a nine piece orchestra added so beautifully to the dignity, majesty, rev-erence and awe of the Divine Liturgy. I wish to thank everyone involved in the planning and execution of this event. I wish to thank the 10th Anniversary Committee for all that they did in the planning and executing of the reception and festivities following the beautiful Mass. Every-thing was done with such grace. Also, a special thank you to all of you, our wonderful and faith-ful parishioners, who have supported us in eve-ry way over all these years. God bless you! Beginning Sunday evening we will start our Parish Mission. This is being done in conjunc-tion with the celebration of our 10th Anniversary of the Dedication of our Church and the 95th Anniversary of the Founding of our Parish. Bill Wegner will be our Lay Evangelist. He is from Good News International. Our Parish Mission will begin this Sunday and run until Wednesday evening. Each service will begin at 7 PM. The theme for Sunday will be Our Call to Holiness. Monday's theme will be The Challenge of Je-sus. Tuesday's theme will be Our Call to Rec-oncile. Immediately after Tuesday’s service, at 8 PM, there will be the opportunity for confes-sion. We will have six priests available that evening. Wednesday's theme will be Questions of Jesus. Please do all that you can to partici-pate on these evenings. Please feel free to in-vite a friend or two. I am quite sure that this mini retreat will be a refreshing time for you.
May God through the intercession of St. Helena bless us!
Love and Prayers, Msgr. Nicolo

MADELEINE’S MESSAGE
First Reconciliation Saint Helena Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) prepares children for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation in second grade. Children of our parish who have been in PREP beginning in first grade prepare to receive the Sacrament of First Reconciliation. Parents help their children to prepare for this special Sacrament by bringing them to weekly Mass and attending parent meetings. Preparation typically begins in the spring of their first grade year with celebrations in December of their second grade year. Our second grade classes, under the direction of Mrs. Helen Winterbottom and Mrs. Maria Mitchell are working hard preparing to receive their First Reconciliation Wednesday , December 3, at 7PM.
Have a great week!

KEN’S CACHE
The Scripture Study Program is nearly half way through its 12th year of weekly meetings beginning in September and, with a break for the holidays, continuing through April or May, depending on the subject. Our program this year has consisted of the completion of a survey of the Old Testament which was begun in January of this year. As brief as a survey of this type would be, covering such a broad subject, most of our group would agree that it has opened for us, new insights into the overarching presence of God with His Chosen People, Israel, as they at times followed him faithfully, and more often than not, turned away to follow false gods. Surveys such as this usually whets our appetite for a more thorough study of one of the books, and that is the process we will be going through this semester. In other words, what will be our next adventure. If studying scripture is something you’ve been doing on your own, been enrolled in courses in school, or have been meaning to begin, this might be a time to think about joining the group. We meet each Thursday evening, from 7:30 to 9:00pm in the Parish Meeting Room. We provide simple refreshments, a video to accompany our study, and a most engrossing period of discussion. Many in our group have been with us from the beginning, a testament to its staying power. Hope to see you after the holidays.
God Bless You!
Deacon Ken

Mothers of Our Church
What is a mystic? A mystic is a person who has an understanding of divine mysteries that transcends what is known by the human mind or ordinary experience. People who are mystics pursue finding a direct connection to God usually through meditation and contemplative prayer. They describe experiences in prayer where they have experienced union or oneness with God.
In every age of our Catholic faith we have by truly blessed by the mysticism, good works and writings of wise women, our mothers in faith. Teresa of Avila described her direct connection to God in her book, The Interior Castle. Therese, the Little Flower, was shown the nature and good-ness of our souls. Clare of Assisi left a legacy of simple faith and voluntary poverty after her direct experiences of God. Hildegarde of Bingen au-thored three books of spiritual insights and com-posed heavenly music as she lived within the Benedictine way. Mechtilde of Magdeburg’s poet-ry can inspire our souls as it did her Dominican sisters. Teresa of Calcutta, Dorothy Day, Jessica Powers and Caryll Houselander have offered more modern mystical paths to deepen our per-sonal friendships with God. Do you have a favorite mystic? Have you ever pondered the writings of these amazing women or prayed with them? Would you like to know more about how they understood God as their own spir-ituality deepened? On Thursday, November 20th we will resume our prayer and study in the library from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. All women are welcome. Please come and bring a friend. For more infor-mation please call Carol Jensen at 610-277-4833 or e-mail her at [email protected].

Month 2 - Developing Baby
I’m Dancing! Your baby is making progress developing all of his/her external features and internal organs. The brain is functioning at 40 days. A heartbeat can now be heard on an ultrasonic stethoscope. Baby-teeth buds are present at 61/2 weeks. The central nervous system is functioning and 40 muscle sets begin their first exercises. From this moment, your spiritually adopted baby grows and refines his/her body. But everything he/she needs to survive after birth is already present by the end of the eighth week. Your baby is now called a “fetus” a Latin word meaning “little one”. Ultrasound reveals that this little one can now spring, flip and jump - their first dance steps!

November 2, 2014 All Souls’ Day
There are many issues on the minds of Catholic voters in this election. On Novem-ber 4, Election Day in the Commonwealth, we have important political choices to make. The Pennsylvania Catholic Conference invited both candidates for Pennsylvania governor to share their views on the follow-ing topics:
Life and the Dignity of the Human Person
The Poor and Elderly Education Covering the Uninsured Faith
Incumbent Governor Tom Corbett (Republican) sat down for an in-person in-terview and completed a written question-naire. Democratic candidate Tom Wolf de-clined the PCC’s interview invitation and did not respond to the candidate questionnaire. Information about his views was therefore compiled from his campaign website and public statements. Both Governor Corbett’s responses as well as Tom Wolf’s views can be found at www.pacatholic.org. As Catholic citizens, we have a moral obligation to participate in the political process. The PCC offers resources serve to educate voters about the issues and allow us to inform our consciences about which candidate will act in the best interest of the common good. To learn more about the election and your local candidates visit www.pacatholic.org (click link for Archdi-ocese of Philadelphia for local candidates)
Be sure to vote on November 4, 2014!
