MORSELS & TIDBITS FROM OUR PASTOR

Feast of All Saints - November 1st

In celebrating this feast of All Saints, we realize that we are surrounded by

generations of witnesses who, through the example of their earthly lives, have

taught us lessons in holiness, faith, endurance, and love. From their place in

heaven they continue to journey with us, offering the wisdom of their experi-

ence and the support of their love.

Some people are surprised when they are challenged to become a saint or to

strive for holiness. Augustine asked, “Who me, a saint?” But he turned his life

around and became a saint. The council documents and the Catechism of the

Catholic Church invite all of us to holiness. This challenge is not reserved to

priests, sisters, brothers, deacons, bishops, or Pope Francis. Thomas Merton

wrote, “For me to be a saint means to be myself.”

Feast of All Souls - November 2nd

The Feast of the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, commonly

known as All Souls Day, is the day the church has set aside to pray for every-

one who has died. All Souls, however, is not only for the benefit of those who

have gone before us.

For the living it is an invitation to shift our attention away from the limits of ordi-

nary time (past, present, and future) toward a spiritual concept of time—that is,

God’s time: the eternal now. As we do that, daily annoyances, minor crises,

doubts, fears, and worries begin to dissolve, and we notice the enormousness

of the human experience. Practice taking the long view.

Mass of Remembrance

On the feast of All Souls, which this year falls on Monday, we will remember all

our deceased loved ones. All Souls Masses will be celebrated at 8:30am and

7pm . However, keep in mind that we cannot accommodate everybody this

year, so please feel free to join us in the morning or pray with us over the inter-

net during the evening mass. (We will live stream 7pm Mass)

Stewardship

During October we always try to present our Annual Report. Our plan is to mail

it this week for you to review. Thanks to your great generosity the numbers

look fine, considering the reality of this pandemic. I will share more next week-

end, and I am truly grateful for your stewardship and generosity.

Reconciliation

Due to this new reality we have to change our time for Saturday Reconciliation

to 9am (starting October 24th) We have to pay so much more attention to the

safety of all who come to our church and because of that we need more time

in-between our services for cleaning/disinfecting. I hope you understand and I

hope it works for you.

God Bless,

Saint Peregrine was healed of a cancerous ulcer

on his leg which was considered beyond saving.

The fame of this event in 1325 spread rapidly

round the western Church. Christians, and espe-

cially the sick, began to invoke his name and seek

his intercession for the relief of their suffering and

even for a cure from sickness. The canonization

of St. Peregrine in 1726 increased people’s devo-

tion to him which spread to the universal Church.

St. Francis of Assisi began offering a novena September 14 to St.

Peregrine for those suffering from cancer and an end to the COVID-19

pandemic. The novena will be held for nine Mondays, through Novem-

ber 9. All parishioners are welcome to participate. Please remember to

wear your mask and social distance.

St. Peregrine is the patron saint for persons suffering from illnesses of

all types in particular cancer.

ROSARY

Please join us to pray the Rosary for Life

on Saturday, November 7 at 10:00 AM.

We will be in the Eucharistic Chapel

at the base of the Bell Tower. Covid restrictions will be followed.

We hope to see you there!

HUMAN CONCERNS COMMISSION

SFA YOUTH MINISTRY

Youth Alpha Starts Tonight Sunday November 1, 2020 @ 7:30 PM Online only. Check your email/parents email for the zoom link.

A Parents Perspective:

My son first became involved in Saint Francis Youth Min-istry by joining the Wolves

volleyball team. He felt so welcomed by the team mem-bers that he wanted to attend all of the events that were offered.

I am very peaceful when my son is at the fun and mean-ingful events throughout the year. I know that he is in a safe, positive, welcoming environment where Catholic

values are shared and encouraged. St. Francis is blessed with a great youth minister who encourages the teens to

live out their faith in all that they do. - Linda Higgins

A Teen's Perspective As a freshman, I got involved in Youth Ministry by volun-teering at the parish picnic. Some activities include: the Passion Play, NCYC, the mission trip, various sports

teams, etc.

Most importantly, you have experiences that open your eyes to what it truly means to be a Catholic, you get the opportunity to make a difference in the church and con-nect more deeply with God. If you don’t think that Youth

Ministry is for you, please just give it one chance. I’m glad that I did. - Annie Mokate

Service Opportunity

Teens in need of service hours for school please contact Matthew Toohill in the Youth Ministry office at 708-460-

0042 or [email protected]

Thanksgiving Food Drive The Helping Hands Committee will facilitate the Parish’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive before and after the Masses on Saturday Nov. 21st, Sun-day Nov. 22nd, and also on Thanksgiving Day. Your non-perishable food items, canned goods, Jewel food certificates, and cash donations are very welcome and are used to purchase food at great discounts. The following organizations will benefit from your donation: Orland Township Food Pantry – serving 336 fami-lies monthly in the Orland Park, Orland Hills, and Tinley Park communities. St Phillip Neri Parish – serving 1800 people month-ly in the South Shore neighborhood, the largest community of subsidized rental units in the metro-politan Chicago area. With the current economic conditions, unemploy-ment, and all of problems due to covid, our sisters and brothers are in great need. Every contribution will make a major difference in their lives and be received with deep appreciation. Collection will be at the Parish van parked in the 2rd row/east side of the church parking lot. Simply pull up and a Helping Hands committee member will assist you. Question call Ann@ 708-642-1784

As always, we thank-you for your continued generosity!!

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed many challenges to the Archdiocese of Chicago and our parishes, including offertory funds lost

due to the suspension of public liturgies. If you prefer electronic giving, please visit: (https://www.givecentral.org/location/207) to

make a one-time or recurring gift to the parish and support the vital ministries and services it provides.

SICK RELATIVES & FRIENDS

Names of sick relatives and friends normally appear in the bulletin for six weeks. After six weeks, the names are written into our parish book of prayers for continued remembrance. At the request of the

family, names will appear in the bulletin for a longer period.
