Class Description• GENERAL:This is a Bilingual Class with children from Years 1 – 6 and a starting roll of 20 students. Four of the 20 students have come from
Kura Kaupapa (Total Immersion Maori School),and are able to speak Te Reo quite fluently, but do not know how to write or read English words , as with the students that come from Te Kohanga Reo. All are Maori and 1 is part Tongan. There are a wide range of abilities and backgrounds in this class and it is important that a varied and interesting programme caters for the needs of these children. Many of them cling to the order of a school day as it offers them security and stability. It is essential that the children have a programme that have set and well established routines, an environment that is comfortable and learning centred, and it is imperative that consistant standards of behaviours are met so that children know what is required of them.
• CHILDREN OF CONCERN AT THIS STAGE (The following will be monitored closely)Behaviour: Damascus Laulu, Learning: Te Awatea Davis, Faenza Flavell, Oceanlee Huia
