He developed fundamentals of organization of treatment for mentally ill patients in Russia, put forward several progressive ideas (necessity of out-patients departments, patronage, the system of loyalty towards mentally ill patients, labour therapy, etc.)

A great Nizhny Novgorod public figure, a surgeon. He worked as a chief physician and surgeon at Nizhny Novgorod Babushkinskaya (Kanavinskaya) hospital. He was a member of Nizhny Novgorod division of the Russian society for protecting public health, a member of the State Duma (1906-1917).

Ehrlich) got the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for their contribution to immunology. He is one of the founders of evolutional embryology, the founder of the comparative pathology of inflammation and the phagocytosis theory of immunity, the founder of scientific gerontology. He was a corresponding member and an honorary member of St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences.
