My father is fighting in the war. I miss

him and mummy a lot. But the people I am staying with are really nice. I write

letters home all the time.

Hi I'm Carrie and I am 9 years old. I have had to leave

my house to go and live with some new

people because mother says it’s too dangerous for me at

home.

Here are some of the letters

that I sent home during

the war.

Dear Mother,How are you? The family I am staying with are so

lovely, they have been very kind to me. It was very exciting taking a trip on the train,

I’ve never seen so many green fields, it’s beautiful. The family have lots of different

animals, but sometimes they are a bit smelly. Have you heard from father? I miss

you both, I hope the war doesnot last long.

Lots of loveCarrie xxxx

Dear Mother,Thank you for your letter, it was lovely to hear from you. I

am fine thankyou. The little boy in the family I am staying with is quite

mean and doesn’tlike sharing his toys with me, but Mrs Giles says he has to.

Mr Giles let me feed the pigs with him the other day, it was really fun, but

I had to pinch my nose. School is ok, it’s very small, but my teacher is nice,

there are lots of other children in my class like me who have left their

families. How is Father? Are you still working in the factory? Lots of love

Carrie xxxx

hope I can come home soon. Thank you so much for the jumper that you sent, it was

the first thing Iopened on Christmas morning and wore it all day long. Mr

and Mrs Giles brought mea drawing book and some paints, it’s really fun, me and John

have been painting lots of pictures. I am sending one with this letter. I miss you and

father lots, please send him my love.

Dear Mother,Is father ok? Are they going to be sending him home, so

you can take care of him? I really wish I could come home or you could come here. There are new children arriving at school every day, I have

tried to make friends with some of them as I know how lonely it can be when

you first come here. I wish We could all move to the country when the war is over, it’s

so pretty, you would love it. I have to go now Mrs Giles is calling me for dinner.

Write back soon. Missyou lots.

Lots of LoveCarrie xxxx
