WHAT IS A PHRASAL VERB?A phrasal verb is a combination of a verb and
preposition, a verb and an adverb, or a verb with both an adverb and a preposition.
to come back/ REGRESAR O VOLVER
EXAMPLE:They are coming back from vacation next month. Regresamos de vacaciones el mes que viene.
to go out/ salirEXAMPLE:Let's go out and play in the snow! ¡Salgamos a jugar a la nieve!
to look for/ buscarEXAMPLE:Pedro is looking for the document you requested. Pedro está buscando el documento que solicitaste.
to put on/ ponerseEXAMPLE:
Why don't you put on your green dress, it really suits you. ¿Por qué no te pones tu vestido verde? Te queda muy bien.
to sell out/ agotarse algoEXAMPLE:The tickets were sold out by the time we arrived. Las entradas estaban agotadas cuando llegamos.
to shut up/ callarseEXAMPLE:
Shut up already! You're giving me a headache.
Cállate ya! Me das dolor de cabeza.
to sign IN/ ABRIR LA SESIÓNEXAMPLE:When you sign in you must give your password. Cuando inicies la sesión debes darle tu contraseña.
TO SIT DOWN/ SENTARSE
EXAMPLE:Sit down and let's talk. Siéntate y hablemos.
TO SPLIT UP / DIVIDIRSE, SEPARARSE
EXAMPLE:The teacher split us up into groups for the project. El profesor nos dividió en grupos para el proyecto.
TO TURN ON / ENCENDER
EXAMPLE:Remind me to turn on the washing machine before we leave. Recuérdame que encienda la lavadora antes de irnos.
