• Objective: Thanksgiving Day• Essential Question: Why did the
Pilgrims celebrate Thanksgiving Day? Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving today?

Kindergarten Lesson Plan • First I would ask the class to share
what they already know about Thanksgiving.
• I would show pictures of the Pilgrims'’ first Thanksgiving in America.
1. Where the pilgrims were from2. Food for the feast3. Activities played4. Who celebrated with the Pilgrims.5. Why the Pilgrims celebrated.
Kindergarten Lesson Plan• We would trace on a map the
mayflowers journey to America.• The hardships the pilgrims faced in
a new land and how the Indians taught pilgrims what food to plant and what to plant for medicine.
• Activities played: naughts and crosses is tic, tac, toe and draughts is checkers. Hide and hop frog are hide and seek and leap frog.
Kindergarden Lesson Plan
• We will discuss the role of the Wampanoag Indians.
• We will discuss why it was important for the Pilgrims to celebrate Thanksgiving.
• We will read the book Squanto and the First Thanksgiving , by Teresa Celsi. Which discusses the hardships the Pilgrims faced and what the Wampanoag Indians taught the Pilgrims.
Kindergarten Lesson Plan
• Discuss the book and the essential questions.
• Answer the essential questions and students what Thanksgiving means to them.
Thanksgiving Activity• Turkey magnet:
1. Colored Paper2. Feathers (at least eight or more)3. Glue 4. Magnet (self adhesive) 5. Wiggle eyes (2)
• Draw and cut out heart shapes (several different sizes from small to large) for your turkey. Glue shapes together after the glue has dried. Then glue the feathers on after that has dried glue the wiggle eyes on. After that has dried then place the magnet on the back.
