Secuencia Didáctica:

Tema: My ToysFundamentación:

A partir del abordaje del tema “My Toys” profundizaremos la enseñanza del mismo mediante el uso y práctica de nuevo vocabulario específico para ampliar y afianzar nuevos conceptos.

de la lengua extranjera. Es decir, trabajar sobre comprensión/ estimulación auditiva y visual principalmente (lenguaje no verbal), prácticas de oralidad que permitirán el desarrollo de la competencia comunicativa y el uso del lenguaje corporal.

LESSON PLAN 7: My Toys

DATE: September the 7th 2015

NAMES: Cielo Sampietro & Gala Tamagni

CLASS: Salita verde 5 años

LENGTH OF LESSON: 1 hour (13:15 to 14:15)

MATERIALS: Flashcards, Coursebook and Photocopies.

CLASS DESCRIPTION: There are 31 students in this group, all between 5 and

6 years old. They have English classes 4 times a week for an hour and most of them have been studying English for about 2 years. As the English class is the first one they have it is crucial to develop an active warm up; the main tool for this is the use of songs as a daily routine in which they do not only sing and get engage but also use their body.

AIMS:GRAMMATICAL STRUCTURES:

Verb to be : There is/ are/ Present Simple ----> e.g.: It is big and purple

Where is ----> e.g.: Where is the Robot? – It is on the ON/IN/UNDER

Page 4: Practice ii toys

Practice II : Tamagni & Sampietro4

Have got/ Has got ----> e.g.: It has got small eyes Certain specific adjectives related to physical

characteristics ( big, small, blue, red)

LEARNING AIMS: We expect not only introduce new vocabulary (Kite,

Car, Ball, Doll, Video Games, Teddy Bear, Robot and Bike) but also reinforce the knowledge the children already have as regards physical descriptions (It is big, red and it has lights), parts of the body (It has two legs) and prepositions (in, on, under).

VOCABULARY: The introduction and review of vocabulary related to

Toys: As regards revision, we will work with the main words the children already know to describe physical characteristics (shapes, colours, and numbers), they also know the prepositions IN/ON/UNDER and main parts of the body. Plus, we will introduce new specific vocabulary about toys: Robot, ball, bike, kite, doll, car, teddy bear and video game/play station.

PRONUNCIATION: As the children do not read or completely write yet, it

is extremely important to be focused on their pronunciation. They can actually identify certain letters and the sound of them, by repeating how the words are pronounced they can certainly reproduce

Page 5: Practice ii toys

them very well. For example, they are able identify and pronounce perfectly the word Monday as it begins with the “M sound” and they can do that with almost any word.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: We expect the children to understand, identify and

pronounce the new vocabulary, recognize and name the toys, find similarities and differences between them. Also we expect to reinforce their vocabulary related to shapes, colours, numbers and prepositions. The children already recognize main parts of the body, through the use of descriptions and games we expect them to reinforce that knowledge.

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: Usually most of the children get easily distracted and

the main reason is that they really love chatting. When a little group starts to talk it makes the other students lose their attention or sometimes get bored/sleepy.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS: It is really important to keep the children active,

entertained and motivated i.e. make them ALL participate in the activities in order to avoid boredom or distraction.

Page 6: Practice ii toys

Practice II : Tamagni & Sampietro6

It is also fundamental to identify which students usually cause distraction (talk, bother their partners) and ask them to change places (sit somewhere else).

PROCEDURES:

STAGE 1: WARM UP STAGE

DESCRIPTION: At the beginning of the class the children are asked to

form and sit in a circle in order to follow the daily routine of singing song and reciting poems to: say “Hello”, The Weather, Days of the Week, Feelings and Prayers to God. Usually when the class is on Monday the students are asked to talk about their weekend. This stage takes around 20 minutes.

“Are you ready to say Hello? Hello to everyone, and How are you Today? We come to our circle time to laugh and sing and play. And you are up you are up And when you are down you are down And when you re only half way up you are neither up nor down Now roll your hands so slowly and roll them all so fast

Give our hands a clap clap clap and put it on your lap tap tap”

“Mister Weatherman, Mister Weatherman what’s the weather like? What’s the weather like? What’s the weather like Today? What’s the weather like Today? What is like?”

“There are seven days, there seven days, there seven days in a weekThere are seven days, there seven days, there seven days in a weekSunday, Monday, Tuesday, WednesdayThursday, Friday, SaturdaySunday, Monday, Tuesday, WednesdayThursday, Friday, Saturday”

“If the Monkey is feeling happy, he has a happy a faceIf the Monkey is feeling happy, he has a happy a faceHA, HA, HA, happy happy faceIf the Monkey is feeling angry, he has a angry a faceIf the Monkey is feeling angry, he has a happy a faceHA, HA, HA, angry angry faceIf the Monkey is feeling sad, he has a sad a faceIf the Monkey is feeling sad, he has sad a faceHA, HA, HA, sad sad face

First activity: We will present the topic by the use of flashcards of

different toys: car, ball, bike, kite, robot, teddy bear, video game and doll. We will introduce them one by one, ask the children to repeat the words and also, in parallel, ask them about their colour, size (small, big, tall, fat) and figures (circle, square, rectangle), number of legs (in they have any) etc. Timing: 15 minutes.

Second activity: We will listen to a song related to toys from their

course book “Kid’s box Starter Class Book, Cambridge English (YLE)). After we listen to it and sing it all together, we will ask the children to do a “Listen and point” activity and a “listen and colour plus listen and match activity” (Before doing these activities we will ask the children to sit at the tables). Timing: 20 minutes.

Third activity:

Finally, if we have time, we will ask them to find 4 toys in abstract drawings. We will not only ask the children to name them, but also colour the toys that they find in the photocopy. Timing: 20 minutes.

Practice II : Tamagni & Sampietro9

Find the Toys and colour them.

CLOSSING THE LESSON: Usually when every lesson is finished, the students

sing the Goodbye song and wait until the next teacher comes. We will sing with them this song:

“This is the way we say Goodbye, we say Goodbye, We GoodbyeThis is the way we say Goodbye, we say Goodbye to youAnd you and you and you”
